What do you think?
I think Mac is better because:

Can run Windows programs
Super Fast boot times
relatively safe
Light weight (for PC)

Disadvantages:
Expensive!

PC cost less then half the price of a Mac and you STILL get more hardware for your money.

tinyxp all the way; followed by xp. macs are lame but they look pretty and have nice keyboards.

PCs, definitely. Simply and overall: nothing runs on Macs. Macs lost the market war decades ago and they're not making a comeback - if everybody was using Macs, then everybody would use Macs, but that's not the way it is.

What's most suspicious about Macs to me is the fact that they never promote and I never hear of any actual superior applications of theirs these days. (at most, they just promote ease of access+lack of viruses and stuff, but that's way down the list for any user excepts grandmas) Back in the day, Macs may have had various performance edges on graphics and the like, but these if they even still matter aren't enough. From what I've see around university work, you'd think can handle less than even I know they should...always incompatible with various languages, having trouble with programs like Mathematica or MATLAB... Why, even if something as frivolous/consumer oriented as high-end gaming, I've never heard of Macs excelling or working well at all. Anyone else here got anything better going for Macs? So I still think Macs are great as flashy, expensive stuff for folks who have no real need for anything special anyway, and probably will just end up running every Windows program on them in the end. Of course, the flip side is the impression that stuff overall is a lot more compatible with anything these days, and people can make Macs work...but I don't think it's work the effort.

PC. Far superior performance for the price, at least for what I want to do.

I mean, a Mac Pro costs $2500. You could build a PC with similar specifications for less than $1000.

lol, ever heard of a program called Bootcamp?it is on all new Mac OS's and allows you to play programs like CIV, yes I run Windows cIV on a Mac laptop faster than my Windows desktop!

PC with Linux installed. Wine lets you run most Windows programs, and there is more and more official Linux support every year from sofware vendors. As fast as 1 second boot, security is top notch. You want lightweight? Try this. or this. Linux is also run on 88.6% of the Top500 list. You can't get much cheaper than free, plus you can run it on pretty much any hardware known to man, so equipment cost is whatever you want to spend.

For those that think Mac's are faultless, you might want to read this. Losing all your data is about the worst thing imaginable.

Yes, I'm not saying Macs are so pathetic you can't do anything. But this doesn't really go towards anything I said. So, with some additional effort (and not even including possible initial cost differences between computers) you can get games which are predominantly designed and geared towards PCs to run on Macs... While I know we all love various games around here, I still already admitted that gaming is even far from the best criteria for most people and again, this isn't exactly evidence that Macs are better or more convenient for most games - just that you can do it. From what I've seen PCs are much more widely used in all sorts of industry programs and applications, though I am welcoming anyone sharing stories/info. It also seems to me like I said before that while overall there are more options/customizeability for anyone these days, especially for large scale operations where internal setup is required anyway, Macs still don't seem justified by cost or convenience. I'll also admit I know little about Linux or related operating systems other than the barriers there being the same they've always been - the market equilibrium problem and lazy folks who would never understand or bother to do anything to get things running in the first place.

I like how Apple finally got Exchange support...And you had to pay for it.

Macs are a total vanity purchase for people that flirt with conspicuous consumption despite thinking they don't.

I think Personal Computers are much better than Macintoshes.

I see what you did there ;)

Also, though, I have to say I'm maybe a little surprised by how quickly this perception of Macs has arisen - since I think there really is good evidence that the original Macs performed well and could have beaten PCs on a number of criteria - the major problem still and always being that no one used Macs, so no one else used them. But I'm guessing a lot of the current perception has taken off far more on other Apple products - iphones and the like. At any rate, bad news for Mac, despite their heavy advertising of the hip liberal arts guy :p
