Choose up to five.

Please include only ones you think actually have a decent chance of occurring and give reasons why.

Previous Narrators:
Civ 4 - Leonard Nimoy
Civ 5 - William Morgan Sheppard
Civ 6 - Sean Bean
----
----

Olivia Colman
I think there's a very strong chance a woman will take the spot this time around. Her recent role as the Queen in The Crown sell her as a composed, stoic, rational and maternal figure, characteristics also part of Nimoy's character in Star Trek or Sean Bean's in Game of Thrones.

On the other hand, her personality and comedy roles also make her appropriate for the more tongue in cheek elements of Civ, and could probably pull a "I am fond of pigs" better than Sean Bean.

Gillian Anderson
Peculiar and recognisable voice, associated with the rational partner in one of the most popular Sci-Fi shows of all time. Often fulfils roles with identical characteristics.

Gwendoline Christie
Strong voice, immediately recognisable, can definitely imagine her reading the "stand the test of time" quotes. Associated with sci-fi and fantasy titles. Will soon be playing Lucifer in Netflix's The Sandman.

Charles Dance
Already voiced video games and has experience as a narrator (Netflix's The Ottomans). Plus everybody knows this guy.

Liam Cunnigham
Different accent for a change? He voiced a drunk dragon in Rick and Morty and made an appearance in one of the Star Citizen trailers a few years ago, so I'd like to think narrating Civ isn't beneath him :p

Other mentions: Morgan Freeman and David Attenborough. I don't think there's a chance to see these in, but it sure would be epic.

Charles Dance. Love the voice. I'm not betting on it, but I would love to see hear him in Civ 7.

Maybe Liev Schreiber? He's narrated some historical documentaries before so I could hear him doing civ. If they wanted to shake things up with a female narrator maybe they could do Vanessa Redgrave?

Charles Dance was my pick the moment they announced Sean Bean for Civ 6.

Other wishlist picks - many are obvious, but they are obvious for a reason:
Morgan Freeman
Patrick Stewart
Tilda Swinton (maybe unconventional, but her narrations are actually good)
David Attenborough (why not?)

I must be old. I don't know who any of those people are.

Shohreh Aghdashloo
Yes! Her voice is captivating.

My top choice would be Sara Kestelman, but that's very unlikely. Actually my top choice would be Avery Brooks, but he's hard retired.

the greatest voice in the world won't work if the quotes are silly and lacking in gravitas like the Civ VI ones.
Poor Sean Bean. "Sure, jets are fast and economical, but oh my! What fun we've lost in the race for efficiency." :crazyeye:

I don't find the quotes to be that bad. There are a few bad ones, I agree, but some of them are pretty nice:

"Without craftsmanship, inspiration is a mere reed shaken in the wind."
"I don't underrate the value of military knowledge, but if men make war in slavish obedience to rules, they will fail."
"It is the mark of an educated mind to be able to entertain a thought without accepting it."
"The purpose of education is to replace an empty mind with an open one."

We can agree to disagree, though.

Some are fine, some are forgettable, a few are downright painful. On the whole, however, Civ6's selection of quotes compares poorly to its predecessors.

I can agree with you on that about certain quotes. Maybe we could start a new thread about finding quotes that could replace some in Civ 6?

Anyway, to avoid going off-topic too much, Charles Dance would be an excellent narrator.

Oh yes, Avery Brooks has an incredible voice as well.

And I refuse to believe that you, DS9 SuperFan, doesn't know who Gillian Anderson is, who starred in the biggest scifi show on TV during that era.

Surprisingly, despite being a huge Niner, I haven't watched a lot of sci-fi in general. I want to watch Babylon 5, but it is...elusive. I tried BSG, and despite loving Moore I just couldn't get into it.

Not old. You just don't watch Game Of Thrones which 3 of them happened to be in. :p

Does nobody want James Earl Jones? :mischief:

Both James Earl Jones and the above-suggested Patrick Stewart have lost a lot of the strength of their voices. Stewart in particular is sounding very, very frail.
Sad, but true.
