Even though you are encouraging it by learning English and associating with us Americans?
I'm striving to keep my english as british as I can ;)

You crazy foreigners need to stop fighting it. There's alot worse countries that could be slowly trying to take over the world.
Gah, I wont say anything to that, too tired for massive flamewar >.>

Your call I suppose. I generally don't see what's horribly wrong with America, aside from whiney celebrities and occasional crazy leaders starting wars.

And British english just makes you sound pretentious :p.

Red White and Blue make up the colours for so many flags... USA, Iceland, Norway, Netherlands, France, Russia, Australia, New Zealand, and those are just the ones I can think of off the top of my head.

@JS- Many people don't like your right-wing economics.

Aye, plus the general culture for striving excess wealth and using it in ridiculous purposes annoys me the most. (altho that might just be biased view of mine based on your pop-culture :p )

I believe it's orange, not red, in their flag. And how could you forget the british flag? :p

It's somewhat true, as excess is definitely a problem here. But I would definitely say the stereotypes of all of us being crazy money-grubbers with no concern except getting rich is completely false.

But with so much wealth readily and easily available, can you blame many of the masses for going too far with it? It's only human nature to constantly want more and abuse yourself (though we are definetely FAR too tolerant of it). As for alot of the statistics on obesity and life expectancy, you gotta realize the south and black (who have an extremely southern-influenced culture) populations screw that up for the rest of us. Just spending one day in any southern city will show you that they weigh the country considerably toward more obesity and therefore lower our average life expectancies. Mostly because of fried food. :p

And as for right wing economics, I can understand that. Some people just prefer to let the government make decisions for you, which lessens their competition (and competence) as a whole, so I'll stand for that (in fact, I encourage it). Just so long as you can justify your anti-American bias ;).

I dont mind having wealth, but they way people use it. That thing is scaring me.

You nailed it in the last sentence

Big corporations = devil's incarnate on earth. Just reading the book "fastfood nation" justifies that opinion...

Edit: damnit I shouldn't have started this... I need some sleep :p

I think that it's hilarious that all this started with das' avatar.

The dutch flag is red, but it USED to be orange, which faded into red. Orange is still the dutch national colour

And of course, Queen's English is the proper way to write.

Tonite? That looks quite undignified. S and U > Z and /.

And British english just makes you sound pretentious :p.

No it doesn't, it just makes us sound like we can use real English, not some watered-down pansy version like American English.

I know that orange is the Dutch national colour, but that's not the colour of its modern flag, that's my only point.

British spelling is my favourite!

How can british english make one SOUND pretentious?

You can't hear the difference, only in writing. (with a few small exceptions)

I dont mind having wealth, but they way people use it. That thing is scaring me.

Just curious, what do we do that bothers you so much? I'm sure there's plenty of crazy eccentric asses who do stupid things, but what is it that the average American wastes his money on?

You nailed it in the last sentence

And even that tolerance varies based on region, but most obese people still get plenty criticized by the population at large. I always do my best to deride fat people all I can. :p

Still, I think most Americans believe too much in tolerance and individualism to harass people for some lifestyle choices. ;)

Big corporations = devil's incarnate on earth. Just reading the book "fastfood nation" justifies that opinion...

Oh God forbid a group of people try to make money :p. Come on, get over it, and just face the facts people will do what they can to make profits. Of course some will come to abuse their position of power, but if you want to live in a world free of corporations where the government just artificially stunts growth and progress, you can be my guest ;).

Edit: damnit I shouldn't have started this... I need some sleep :p

At least you can speak civilly. The most OT-fourteen-year-old-communist spewing the same old crap is your complaints about corporations. You hate America for common misconceptions, not just biased bull :p. And it's even greater testament to your character that you also come from Scandinavia.

EDIT: And I've heard from some sources that American english is actually more conservative than British English, and I've read some theories that Britain once spoke more along the lines of American English, with modern British english mostly being spoken in the SouthEast. (and later spread outwards from there) I'm not sure on any of the sources of any of this, so I won't stand too strongly behind them.

Some Canadians spell like they use Microsoft Word Spell Check without re-adding the u's. :p

Thanks, I will! I think that quality of life is more important than ridiculously high-paying jobs for CEOs and high-level management.

And I'll take the extra opportunities and freedom from government intervention for the marginally lower quality of life :p.
