While We Wait: Part 3

So in other news, I get to be the cartographer for DLNES.

I have a map. I just need to put cities on it. What criteria do you guys use to put cities on? Is it, like, cultural centers, cities over X population, or what? Would there happen to be a handy map of the world on the eve of World War II or a timeframe rather similar where I could just transfer the dots onto the NESing map?
Look in the Mapping the Future thread. A map of Europe with cities has been posted. So has a list of cities in Europe. Either use it, or actually do some research and eliminate the cities that weren't above 50000 in 1939.

I'm on the one hand pleased and on the other confused that nobody even raised an eyebrow to the map recoloration. I think I like blue Russia.

I've been hawking blue Russia for ages ;), what with the soviets taking red and white not being useful there really isn't any other option (that horrible brown taken from civ3 is best forgotten about :p).

It always struck me as more of a rust than a brown.

I was disappointed I couldn't get a good approximation for French Blue with the color palette, so we're back to the old Finnish Blue. On the plus side, I can guarantee no single country shares colors with any other. Despite there being like 180 of them. And more when cities get dropped on. I think we have just enough colors.

Out of curiosity, has anyone checked out this guy's maps before?Wikipedia uses several of them.

Yes, they're neat. Shame there isn't one for 1000 BC yet (though I did find most of the relevant political information, albeit sadly sources contradict each other all too often, especially about the Neo-Hittites and such).

Oh and here is a bit about King Ryan. :D

I think that his stories - especially the one with that travesty of a flag - speak for this extraordinary monarch's character far better than even your updates. ;)

Not really, but the Map Requests thread might be what you need (otherwise, just ask here).

No, I had a question for Lckymoose's Luck NES V map

Whats that Brown blob next to the HEllenic Rupublic?

That question probably goes in the LuckNES V thread, if Luckymoose doesn't mind, that is.

Anyway, it's almost certainly Turkey.

That would be the Turkish Sultanate. You could have asked me in my NES thread like das has said, or use Wikipedia on Greece and searched its neighbors and compared names. ;)

Oh, but then wheres hungary.

EDIT: Never mind, I'll ask you in the forum.

Map colors are astonishingly easy to change, so I rarely even notice them until an actual NES starts.

I think I like blue Russia.

I always used dark red for Muscovy and blood red for the Soviets; since my historical maps never had to bridge the gap in between, I didn't worry about it. :p The sea green on some of das' map is all right, as is blue.

Ah, but they aren't when most of them are used and you have a limited palette, you see.

You can switch colors. I know this is a foreign concept. :p
Spare me the ad hominem. It's difficult to do so without repeating a color, which is bad. Believe me, I did it with about 190 countries. It's not easy. Redoing it is a somewhat complex undertaking. People are lazy and probably won't bother, since that takes actual work. Complaining about somebody else's choices is infinitely easier.

Bringing us back to my point that the lack of commentary was odd.

Symphony. I was teasing. Not attacking you. Smilies, read the smilies.

Switching. Country A's color becomes Country B's, and vice versa.

Ad hominem is ad hominem, regardless of the intent. ;)

Less difficult, but also time-consuming considering most of the countries where people would want to do that are broken up into multiple flood-fills.

Again, I don't think you're sufficiently appreciative of how terribly lazy the average NESer is here. :p

Yeah, but throwing the word around like candy really doesn't help us when it's actually relevant.

Paint has a really quick way to get around that, involving a cut, a single fill, a paste, and switching transparent background color on.

Again, I don't think you're sufficiently appreciative of how terribly lazy the average NESer is here. :p

I was explaining why I didn't object. Why other people aren't whining, I couldn't tell you. Unless this is one of the rare instances where NESers actually agree on something.
