While We Wait: Part 3

What do you guys mean by crazy? Luxemburg taking over Europe? Yea, I guess that could happen ;)

No, but in seriousness, there would be quite a bit of wars (Iraq spill over, Tibet revolts, Pakistan-India, North Korea, Iran, Irish civil war perhaps, ect.)

Not all of the above would happen though

@ symph/NK

I agree with Symph on the whole from what we've seen of sentient species and the reasoning behind it. The only way out of the destructive pattern (that w've seen, or rather I know of) is a large network of species that have symbiotic relationships with each other. (and I doubt this system will be perfect either, unless some species periodically needs to shed meat :p)

Pretty hard to acheive however (i.e. I suspect the quickest way is to "play God")

ON ANOTHER TOPIC:

Should we request that the "Next Orders Due..." thread is unstickied? It is virtually unused, yet sits atop many other more usefull threads. All mods can very happily include NOD's within their own thread.

I'd have to agree. Anyone in LINESII can remember the deadline, Friday at any time unless you ask for an extension.

And there's the fact that it's still on hiatus until mid-december.

Yes, maps are more important i agree..

be quite nice to have an intro thread aswell so that we can be more aware for fresh blood..

(where's the proper place to introduce oneself here?)

but anyway, hi! I've recently wanted to try out NESing as a way to kill some spare time (when I get it, heh.) That won't be for some time, but I guess I'll introduce myself now and NES later.

some of the current stickied are pointless, and most of the current notice board is years out of date. I have pm'd the mods to ask if i can spruce it up a bit.

I felt like sharing an excerpt from a rule set:

Economy

The economy of Europe was indelibly marked by the series of plagues that swept across the continent. As a result of the massive death tolls, production, especially of food, started to outstrip demand. This caused the standard of living to slightly rise, as prices became low enough that even the poorest could afford their basic necessities. Because of the lowered prices, agriculture and land, the standard of wealth, became less important.

Faced with such a relative abundance, the people moved towards a culture of consumption. The demand for luxury items soared among the nobility, and to a lesser, but still significant degree, among the fledgling middle class. To furnish the luxuries to feed this growing demand, cities became more important, as they were the places that attracted the skilled artisans as well as the places where trade occurred.

This consumption culture, however, was not limited to private instances of the display of wealth, it also took on a civic nature in the form of patronage. Cities spent vast sums of money on art, architecture, books, music, statues, and other luxuries in order to show their superiority over rival cities. Important figures donated vast sums of money to public works to show their power, influence, generosity, and loyalty to the state. Rival royal courts sought the best in order to provoke the jealousy of their peers.

This consumer mentality served to revitalize the economies that had been ravaged by the plague, creating an increased demand for skilled labor and brave men willing to make the dangerous journeys to bring home foreign goods. There are, however, other factors at play. Local lords exert their own power of their lands, taking what they perceive as their rightful share from state taxes. Meanwhile some state officials, through corruption or lack of skill and knowledge create a noticeable drain on the economy. The wise statesman must take all of these factors into account if they wish to build a strong economy.

Fourteenth Century perhaps?

Here is your map from turn 4.

I think the most useful way to have an orders due thread is have one person volunteer to do everything. Each mod pm's them their deadline if they dont already have it written in, and in ONE post they show every single one. I would be willing to do it if necessary. It would make things a lot easier than a thread of hardly used ones.

That is a good idea if it doesn't over whelm the "doer" or they go on vacation.

I have no problem doing it, I am on, even if for short periods of time, pretty much every day. As well, doesnt really look like much chance for vacations in the near future other than 1-3 day things infrequently.

as well, even for long vacations somebody could make a 2nd post as long as the thread stays empty except for that.

Fourteenth Century perhaps?

No, fourteenth century was still suffering from the economic downturn caused by the plague. This is mid-fifteenth, 1450, to be precise, as economies have just started their recovery and are still about twenty years off from "full" recovery.
