While We Wait: Part 3

So, anybody care to enter a betting pool on how many city entries the map project ends up with? I'm banking around 7850±150, personally.

I'll say about 4500 or so. Maybe a bit more.

But we may have some Macks. ;)

True, but the point stands. Napoleon's campaigns were so fascinating because the strategies contained within them were so brilliant. Either you'd have a replay of the actual campaigns -- no fun -- or incompetently led armies on both sides -- pointless.

If you're playing as a normal person against an incompetent, they would suck so much you would seem to rival Napoleon in achievement. :p

Nice try, but beating incompetents with overused strategies isn't very fun, nor is it at all interesting to readers.

That's why you think of using original strategies. :p

Which is where the problem of us being only mediocre strategists becomes a problem.

(And I will be incompetent in several games just to give you the impression you can walk over me)

Urgh. Metagaming is kinda stupid to me, but whatever floats your boat.

Why couldn't a game begin with a historical set up and then just let the players fight it out? I see such a game having a weekly strategic level turn and then a pretty detailed (for a NES) grand tactical component. The battles would be structured to provide outcomes similar to what one would expect in the early 1800s.

Players would have to think on both levels and the si-move nature of the turns and fog of war would keep things interesting.

Carmen, interesting strategies are often tried, and fail a lot. look at luckymoose in JalNES, setting his troops' weapons on fire and having them all burn to the ground.

Playing more mediocre than you are to set up a false impression is a horrible idea, IMHO. Each NES is unique.

Thanks for all the orders! I haven't been pushing for them because ive been busy with stuff, and updating my other NES.
Notice it's singular? I think ya'll DNES2 players better watch out, it might start mumbling about "Brains" soon... :p

I don't think any of us are under illusions as to the state of DNES2. Indefinite Hiatus, though I wouldn't call it dead.

I enjoy shattering the few remaining delusions. Don't spoil my fun. :p

That page has no information stating it is anything other than what Iggy said.

EDIT: Info about LuckNES V.

What ruleset do you want me to use? AFSNES rules seems to be a good bet. I also will eventually need some ideas on cultures and the like. But that will come when the finished Cradle Map comes.

Some people thought clamoring for bits and pieces of the update might mean they would get it.
