While We Wait: Part 3

Symph: I never said anything about ruleset, unless you mean how countries will have their vital statistics listed.

And this is not what I mean by stats. I was thinking it would look like a better World Factbook. :p
Ah. So, the equivalent of a small abridged set of encyclopedias which is still mostly vague of only the barest use versus what somebody could easily find online, as LittleBoots intones. Plus the fact that most of the data recorded in something like the World Factbook doesn't exist for most countries going back only about, oh, 250 years or more ago.

That also doesn't solve the frequency at which data is collected. Or the fact that nobody would do it. Hell, I wouldn't do it, and I am the champion of ideas nobody else likes doing around here. :p

there is no way that could work. sure, getting data for all ± a few, based on your definition of a country, 193-201 countries in the world would be relatively easy, though time consuming, what about data for UK in 1800? With an empire the sun never sets on, how exactly would you conduct censuses on literacy or living standards?

What about short lived nations, that lasted for a year or two only? they would be in some NESes, but I doubt info is readily available. Finally, army sizes in ancient times.......

Army sizes in ancient times are actually pretty easy to collect data on, the question is if it's accurate.

I have a nice file on my computer which I nicked off the net, giving approximate GDP and Population for areas of the world from the birth of Christ until about now. I'll see if I can find the source site later today; if I can't, I'll just post it. There are a couple of mistakes, naturally, but it's better than nothing.

Thanks NK!

Nice. Although before the birth of Christ would've been even nicer. ;)

@das- Its been a while, but I was thinking about this recently, and I was wondering - where did all those Satanim come from? What did happen in Jerusalem? And how did they single handedly slaughter 8000 rebelling Byzantine troops? That was one of my favorite moments of NESing history - Holokauston Jerusalem.

The Satanim were basically a combination of the Hashshashin and the Inquisition in the service of the High Priest. Before those Greeks came along, they just ran around minding their own business, killing heretics, killing Egyptian generals and nobles and, uh, come to think of it all they ever did was kill all kinds of people. When the Greeks invaded, they took to killing Greeks as well.

That said, what happened in Jerusalem - from what I do remember of it - was somewhat different. Although there were Satanim harassing the Byzantine army, there was one "Satan" in particular that managed to both kill your general and incite a general uprising (the poor of Jerusalem make for one great angry mob if properly motivated, and it was probably just a matter of being in the right place at the right time). This is where my memories get rather blurry, though he probably died during or soon after the uprising; I do remember that you still had to pull out eventually. ;)

Potentially stupid.. but didnt the US become so economcally powerful later?

It already was pretty strong back then. Though with... problems.

Yeah, they (one of my favorite quotes from an update): "ran fleeing from the wrath of the One True God."

Charles Li is now on the road upwards. sp1023 has taken his place.

I put up the Taraskids, and will put more info on them when I have time.

sp1013? I haven't seen him around. Maybe that makes me lucky? Since I'm not acquainted with him. :p

Oh, and also, I don't think I'll play. It's too RPG-style. Sorry. :(

:( :(

I presume Charles Li is a bad Neser, which I thereby take as an insult. However, I think I am improving, even though Carmen begs to differ. ANd light fang, I am now acquainted with you.

You managed to turn in some good orders in my NES.. you just need to cut back the unimportant posts. Go frolic in OT to release those urges ;)
