Anyone who has tried to reply to one of my PMs over the last half of a day or so, I apologize. I just realized my PM box was full a while ago, so go ahead and reply now.

As for Russia, I have one interesting thing to say: doesn't it seem as though Putin wants to start another Cold War? He keeps supporting Iran in its building of a nuclear power plant and tries to oppose America on many, many issues. And then, there is Kosovo declaring independence and his guarantee of Russian military force in aid of the Serbians retaining their territorial integrity. Doesn't that seem like the Cold War?

I think he's supporting Iran because he want some kind of foreign support. Russia has a great economy but lacks allies.

Couldn't he find support that wouldn't piss of America or, at the very least, a nation that isn't in imminent danger of being squashed? I'm sure it wouldn't be difficult. And what about Serbia/Kosovo, where he is directly opposing NATO and the United States with the threat of military force?

Here's how I see it:

To some degree, American global dominance antagonizes Russia, which continues to view NATO as an American vehicle for extending its' influence into traditionally Russian spheres of control. Georgia would be a perfect case study here.

The great diplomatic alignments of the early 21st century are the Sino-Russian and Anglo-American axes, easily viewable in Security Council voting, with Western (and much of Eastern) Europe, as well as most other second-tier democracies (Japan, Australia, Brazil) vaguely adhering to the latter, and various 'rogue,' radical or leftist states (Venezuela, Sudan, North Korea, Iran, etc.) finding support with the former.

As usual, India finds itself mostly non-aligned, more due to internal chaos and equal antagonism towards both American-supported Pakistan and China than any coherent policy.

Never underestimate the opularity gained by someone who stands up against large forces. It happens everywhere.

It seems like diplomacy that takes into factor the interests of his country. I hate Putin more than most people, but he's not deliberately trying to restart to cold war. US Interests aren't in the interest of every other country. Just think about what you would do if you were playing Russia in a NES....

Aces High 2, offline mode, too cheap. Anyway, enemy anti-air fire shot me to hell and this is me trying to fly back ten miles to the friendly island. Shortly after this picture Engine 1 cut off due to lack of oil and I glided and made a semi-safe landing on the beach of the friendly island. Luckily the pilot wasn't hit by that bullet that went through the windshield.

I have thought about this actually. I figure I would publish a book after say I was Governor or something, discussing NESing and how it changed my knowledge on politics, as a portion of a chapter . Probably supporting that type of thing to youth, roleplaying in a political way.

Yeah, you rebelled against me earlier (why do you always call the Greek rebels 'Byzantines'? It's irritating and repetitive). I mean that the Balkan pact which Thlayli organized openly went against all of the stipulations that they had agreed to upon receiving independence.

I only called the Greeks "Byzantines" once, actually......and that was in NES2 VI. Every other time they've just been Greeks, unless someone else had them first and named them "Byzantines" (viz. JSNES03, although that state existed previously). And I never joined the Balkan Pact - wasn't particularly interested in going up against the FK and its allies and losing.

As to [NESer] in [position of power], isn't that sort of what we did with the "Impressions of NESing" back before it was closed down because it was a user-specific thread?
