Mao destroyed countless priceless artifacts which constituted the cultural legacy of the most ancient nation in the world. The Chinese Nation defies all of Marxists Thought, a Political Theory based upon Europe and biased towards European society. As shown by how the Chinese communists leaders themselves did things much differently then say the Soviets or Marx

;)

I dont doubt this for a minute. hence Maoism. But besides it was only a few relics from a decadent system that has been consigned to the ash heap of history. The problem with reactionaries is that they are so tied up in the past that they forget to to look towards the future of socialism and communism!

Communism is defintley my favourite though, you cannot argue with the scientific and historical dialectic of the Marxist school of thought and the fact that history IS on their side...

Marxism and Communism smacks me as the government of immature, angsty, and idealistic teenagers. It certaintly is a favorite of that age group. Marxism is unrealistic and it appeals to their notions of self-importance and the want for something more meaningful than what they currently have. Sure, it has a bunch of great ideas, but when applied to reality, they fail miserably. Furthermore, all that speak of the proletariat dissolving nations and rising up has been proven to be crap - the proletariat, once it gets enough money and cozy living standards, could care less about forming worldwide workers paradise.

If history shows us anything, it is that people are concerned with themselves above all others. That is why communism fails.

Ah how sad that propoganda in America, the purported land of liberty, equality and freedom denounce the very system that would give it to them!

ooc: Personally I know communism is an idealistic ideology (funny how that is, I dont know of an unidealstic ideology) that would be difficult if not impossible to implement. The unfortuante fact is that human nature works against this, as most people are slaves to the god of greed.... Unfortuantley this is also the problem you see in other politics, eg. American democracy, which by this stage isnt very democratic, requires you to be filthy rich to run for office (or at least President), is locked into a bitter 2 party system (which neither parties difer much on policy) and the corruption, inefficencey and the like are also all products of greed.

The REAL problem with government if you want to get down to it, is that in the end someone will always end up in charge of someone else. So either its anarchy or we just continue to suffer.

Anarchy is suffering. All it does is let the most powerful assume totalitarian control and start the cycle over. Which is precisely why anarchists are fools, but that's another story.

Social Democracy is IRL probably the best government.

I can't say I've ever run a democracy... except for once in NES2 V.

Keep your opinions and your 30% taxes to yourself, Commie. :p ;) Having lived in Europe, and having paid the equivilent of $15.00 for a three-pack of Micromachines (let alone gas, or food, or...), I can quite frankly say that if that's the cost of socialism, it can be kept elsewhere. Anything's great on paper until you have to pay for it.

I tend to wind up with fairly egalitarian democracies or societies with at localized democratic processes. Less muss, less fuss, more productivity. Real power is always wielded from the top anyway.

Hey, I think libertarian politics are good too. It's just a matter of how you think the poor and rich should be treated.

One situation has a rich kid who inherited from parents who ran an exploitive company compared to some poor soul who was born into poverty and couldn't get a full education because he had to start working young.

Another has someone who poured their heart and soul into their business, and are now financially successful and comfortable because of it, compared to someone born into a functioning family who turned to drugs and skipped school because it was 'cool' and is now a down and out homeless addict.

I just have seen more of the former and less of the latter.

Actually I believe in some social services (most of my income right now comes from federal education grants; I am well below the national poverty line), just not to the point that the government should run people's lives for them. Free dental is great. Taxing people to hell like most European (or industrialized) countries do to get there however, is not my cup of tea.

I tend to believe in centrist government (and that carries over to my NESing governments). They're generally more flexible, more efficient, and more adaptable. I've never really been a fan of extremists of either (or any) persuasion.

It IS a case of what you get is what you pay for, and also very much what you are used to in that regard.

How is history on their side? The revolution of the proletariat never materialized, and when ideologues tried to nudge it along they succeeded at nothing but creating divisions that would entrench themselves when they gained power. Communism can't happen without the revolution, and the revolution is just too big a collective action problem to occur in a way that would lead to a dictatorship of the proletariat. Those who fought and bled for it aren't going to just put themselves on a level with those who did nothing.

I usually stick to Religious monarchies (exceptionally well working if you gear the religion in that direction) or limited autocracies. I tend to avoid democracies/republics simply for the trouble they bring.

I was speaking from a favourite government in NESING perspective.`

Such as? It's not like a game of [civ3] where you get war weariness. Any time I've been in them there's never been an instance I can recall where they're resulted in discontent during war (or having had my decisions overruled). Well, maybe stazNESVIII, but martial law fixed that pretty quick.

People are stupid and need to be told they aren't while being taken care of from behind the scenes. Aristocracy, in the truest, ancient sense of the word, in a local setting (without interference from any larger government) that completely controls every aspect of life and is run by brilliant people with years and years of education is the best system ever. You don't let the people get too rich or too poor, you invent mythologies to prevent them from wondering about their place in their world; you have extensive testing programs to lift those intelligent enough to question the world around them to a higher level of that world (or else kill them). You keep an army of well trained dogs (that is to say, humans with a firm understanding of where the food comes from and what happens to dissenters) to keep the peace internally and externally.

Complicated mythologies combined with plentiful lying to those who cannot understand the eutopia for what it is and its beauty is perfectly acceptable. Only those in the highest power (and with the most education and longest years of conditioning for the job) should know the truth and then only a few of them. Puppet masters can be selected from the populace, marriages can be controlled, children can be selected for from birth, and the state can run all education programs. A moderate amount of capitalism at the lowest level of society is a plausible addition to keep the peons from knowing the true nature of society, but the upper levels shouldn't even use money. The 'dogs' should be kept well fed and well conditioned to love the honour of their position and questioners should be culled. Money is unnecessary, maintaining a decent quality of life (though not too decent, as that allows time for contemplation and reflection) is perfect for them. For the uppers, a higher quality of life, but only the highest up should enjoy any decent amount of time for contemplation. The machine of state needs bureaucrats to run it, especially for such a large and well built machine as this.

Globalization is the devil, local governments are the best, anything larger than a city is evil, democracy is government by the loudest morons, monarchy is government by inbred morons, oligarchy is government by inept, backstabbing morons, theocracy is practically always poorly run, imperial democracies allow stupid people too much freedom and have far too many people to accomplish true and objective justice for each and every citizen, which the city described above most certainly can.

Furthermore, Marx never said anything constructive, Stalin didn't go far enough, and American democracy is fake, corrupt, and evil.
