Who do you play as?

He specified that he only conquers cities on his continent, which he put in quotes because Civ VI defines continents differently from earlier civ games (and differently from most people's intuition).
Right, sorry if this led to confusion. My point was that, as Teddy, you open the continents lens and look for other civs that are on the same continent as your capital is. Those are your viable targets. If you stick to only those targets, you will get a +5 bonus when you are attacking them. Later in the game, if someone declares war on you, they'll move their troops into your territory, including those that you conquered earlier. But since you made sure that those cities you captured were on your continent, they'll "still be" on your continent when someone else moves in.

Note however, that this is really only a way to ensure that you're milking everything you can out of the American combat advantage; I'd still recommend settling or conquering premium land if it isn't on your continent, you just won't get the extra bonus.

Depends on (a) what I feel like, and (b) whether I'm playing single player or multi-player. My most common choices are:

Single player:
Kongo if I feel like going for a cultural victory.
England if I feel like playing on an Island Plates map.
Scythia for domination.
And for taking a break/something completely different, China for turtling and Germany for building stuff.

Multiplayer (specifically co-op):
Depends what my teammate feels like. I try and find a complementary civ to their choice, usually from one of my main single player choices.

Those may change as I only have 350 hours playing time so far, but at 30 hours a week I guess I'll soon find out.

Germany. I really like the extra district.
England for island yes, the free combat unit is also nice on other continents.
(those do add up nicely)

Panzers and Uboats though... heh-heh-heh.

I go random. Will reroll if I get someone I've played recently. On occasion if I haven't used someone, I'll set them up. Might play as Alex next, been beside me in last 3 games. I hate Alex.

So wait, do you guys play as the same civs over and over again? I usually just play who as I haven't won as yet, which right now is Pedro.

Cleopatra the production bonus for districts and wonders on rivers is pretty strong. You can built districts much faster wich results in a snowball effect. Not to mention you can get early wonders pretty good with the bonusses of the civ and civics.

the more money for trade routes is olso powerfull and the extra foods gives you more growth.

Only downside on Egypt is I NEVER built thee spinx improvements its just not worth it I rather built farms or mines.
The unique unit is pretty powerfull however I don’t built it because archers are cheaper to built.

Overal egypt is a good civ for any victory condition.

I've probably played as Arabia most - they are the most versatile and fun to play. I think they are actually very well suited for RV - their prophet comes late but the basically free religious building and madrassa more than make up for this. I can get ridiculous amounts of faith per turn with this civ pretty early in the game. Of course, they are also well suited for domination and science victories.

I like variety though so my rule of thumb is to play random.

Been playing as Persia. Unique unit and ability are awesome, and the Pairdaeza is probably one of the better unique improvements in the game. I build them all over the place, plus it makes district planning even funner. Be prepared to be super-cultured and super-rich. It seems like normally i usually have a few more trade routes than cities, but in my last game, i had many fewer routes than cities, and i was still pulling in 600-700 + in gpt. Not only does the Pairdaeza give all that culture and gold when well-placed with districts, they also give +2 appeal to surrounding tiles (think seaside resorts all over the place). Will have to try him on island plates next.

I have played all civs but Alex, Monty and Tomyris. They seem OP and I get bored of that easily.
I play Victoria a fair amount because she is not strong at the start but is a good comeback civ mid game if need be.

I do not really play for the Civ but for the game. I am more interested in the stuff that is the same but it is good to play them all and the variety is nice.

I played Hojo about 10 times, Harald 5, Catherine maybe 20 times, Cleo 5, the rest once or twice... Not really keen on religious victory but have done all that. I played a polish RV yesterday and a Polish cultural today. I guess I just play Vicky because I come from England and was surprised when this release they named the English leader after my user name.

I try and spread out who I'm playing as. If I notice I haven't played Teddy in awhile, I'll select him. Depending on my schedule, work and family, I usually finish a game every week or so. However I start 4 or 5 and never finish them, for one reason or another. I never go for a score victory. If I see I can't win in time, I usually quit.
My last 2 completed were a Persia Military. Had allied Victoria, and together we (me) killed all other AIs. Moved all mu units next to London, 1 turn kill when alliance ended. My second was an American science on turn 401. Currently using Cleo. No wars yet. Only met Vicky (allied), Teddy (declared friends). Pedro (neutral) and Tomyris (SHe denounced me) still have 1 to find.

I know she's not popular round these parts, but I play Catherine 95% of my games. I love being able to focus on wonder building, chateaux, and resorts; they work under any circumstances, and almost every difficulty. Playing Catherine means playing a culture game without having to compete for great people.

And chateaux are way, way underrated. A half dozen tiles that are wonder and luxury adjacent are a serious boon to economy, culture, and tourism.

Between the chateaux and the wonders, France in Civilization VI is always a beautiful country. And I haven't even mentioned the agenda/spy bonuses yet!

I've been partial to Australia lately, I really like the outback stations (wish they came sooner). But I should play more leaders. Mostly I care about who I'm playing AGAINST. I don't get like getting yelled at every time I construct a wonder or recruit a great person.. stuff like that. I mean really.

So I like playing on really big maps with much fewer than standard civs, picking my neighbors, then maybe rolling the dice on who I am. Last game I was allied with 5 of 6 civs, I kept pissing off Teddy though, I had a city next to him so I was "moving troops near his border" and I kept draining marshland or cutting down rainforest. He didn't like that. LOL

I'm still cycling through all of the civs so there are a few I haven't used yet. But I've used Rome, Germany, Arabia, Sparta, Aztecs, Sumeria multiple times each. Rome, Germany, Arabia will probably be my mains over the life of the game. However, I just recently got back in the game and downloaded Persia and Macedonia and they fit my play style perfectly, especially Alex. I love the Classical era rush and Firaxis gave him all the good stuff. In my current game, I got 4 Great Generals by the Medieval Era (1 Classical for the Horse rush, 2 Medieval to support the Knight rush, and 1 Renaissance/Industrial that I converted into a Bombard to take down city walls). Macedonia promotes the building of early Encampments w/ Barracks, something I usually stay away from. No need to run any projects. I think I've gotten the first GG once before, but this Civ seems to be a shoe-in for it.

I've really enjoyed playing Persia as well. They are really flexible and with a very strong foundation every game through +culture/gold trade and improvements.

I've been on a Dom. kick recently and have rolled America, Macedon, and Gorgo (greece). Been trying to lay off the ancient warrior/archer rush in favor of more classical/medieval domination to help improve my middle game.

I have to say that a few early encampments can really help out with unit experience gains and increase production yields from trade routes.

Wow, nobody has mentioned Montezuma!! I just won a domination on immortal. using builders to rush districts is bananas! Declare war early and get 3-5 builders with their UU. Spend money to buy builders. You can hammer out district super fast. Also, push for those lux resources and slowly beef up army strength. BOOM!

After some nice Hojo games on archipelagos, I have tried the Polish and I'm in love since. The power of Jadwiga's trade is overwhelming, I can produce a builder in the capital in three turns on marathon. And the Golden Liberty bonus is awesome as well.

I have yet to try the other civs, but it may be difficult to let Sukiennice go. Does any other's civ trade come close to the power of polish merchants? Egypt looks okay-ish, but lacks the cogs bonus...

Does any other's civ trade come close to the power of polish merchants?
England with harbors and commercial districts will get twice as many trade routes.
Sukiennice is nice though... Lancers are great, I would just avoid the culture bomb as a permanent -10 is just yuck. I hope they fix this as it ruins Poland for me

Civs without a UI can do very little with flat deserts, tundras and snow. Game I'm playing currently I got Sais near Uluru with Petra. Sphinx's are icing on the cake. Also got access to monastary to fill up gaps.
But yeah, it doesn't compare to Syria's pairidaeza's.
