Who is Jon Gruber?

They are more-or-less single-payer systems, but those programs (along with Social Security) have a serious and growing funding problem.
You're right, the perception that there's a funding problem is a serious problem for funding things.

On the bright side, there's no funding problem.

Seems like it could be funded if a bit less money went to the military. Maybe? How much funding are we talking about here?

The spending is the funding. Social security is funded by issuing the social security checks. The tax is virtually unrelated.

I don't understand that, but if there is no funding problem, could then medicare (I think that's the one - the old for the elderly) be expanded to cover all Americans?

If not, why not?

Yes, but Americans are a highly individualistic people. Many people don't want to pay higher taxes and have the government take control of healthcare. The American government is viewed by many as being incompetent.

Why higher taxes if there is no funding problem? If it would mean higher taxes for all, then I completely understand the rational behind everyone being opposed to it.. but if there is no funding problem, then I'm lost again..

Some would argue that Obamacare was design to fail on purpose to push people over to single-payer healthcare. Also, by definition Obamacare is universal healthcare, it just isn't single-payer.

That whole n-dimensional chess thing again?

I should have said single-payer. Isn't medicare or medicaid basically single-payer? What you guys need to do is lower the age for that to 18 :) Or lower. But again, what the hell does this Canadian know..

Medicare-for-all is probably the best model Americans can hope for. I wish the experience with the health law would give us something better but I don't hold my breath.

Gruber was right, man. :smoke:

Also, I found this clip where Proffy McGruber wrote part of a South Park episode:

Link to video.

I demand an apology from the producers of South Park and I want all subsequent episodes removed from the air because they insulted the American voters.

We could certainly afford it financially. It would redistribute real medical resources and also the American voters are unintentionally sadomasochistic :dunno:

Gruber was right, man. :smoke:
Who? Please don't direct me to the thread about him, there's too much and not enough.

Doesn't anybody actually read the bill? You would think the Politicians would because its their job. If any Politician was ethical they would call out another Politician if they were lying. You would think media would have analysts to read the Bill and be able to call out a Politician when they lie about something. Instead the Media takes the Politicians at their word, the Media parrots it back at the public and the public gets outraged when they've been duped for the umpteenth time.

:gripe:

If you can read a page every minute and understand it, should take you about 2 days.
I doubt it is possible.
The thing references itself and you have to flip pages back and forth a ton.

...Who? Please don't direct me to the thread about him, there's too much and not enough.
All the sound bites crunched down into one video, context free :D

ahah, this + going back over the OP tells me this is suuuuuuch a non-issue. But thank you for researching it and summing it up for us.

Since American voters are so stupid, impress and bedazzle them with basic algebra turned into a magic trick!

Spoiler :
Take the equation [[(X+4)*2-6]/2]-X=1
Solving gets you to X+1-X=1
Which leads to 1=1 hurray!

Now for the magic.
1) Pick a number
2) Add 4 to it
3) Multiply the answer by 2
4) Subtract 6
5) Then divide by 2
6) Finally, subtract your original number
7) Your final number is 1 isn't it?

The children will be impressed!

Now we need to convince them that 10,000 pages of new rules and regulations will ultimately lower costs when a person goes to see their doctor.

I've ended up with "2" as the answer to both of your problems.

Those idiots don't get that the American government is by far more competent than the private sector at healthcare.

Are those the same American who support spending trillions to send government workers overseas to display their incompetence at war?

President Obama and Obamacare supporters intentionally misled the American public in order to get Obamacare passed. These sort of political tactics aren't just limited to Obamacare though.

Impeach Obama !
For lying about the government take over of medicare and death panels. Keep government out of my Medicare !

Seriously
How could the American Public not know that the healthcare mandate which forces young people to buy healthcare would help balance out all the sick, poor and old people getting healthcare ? Hasnt this been debated since 1993 which is like 20 years ago ???

Well, no. It's been debated since about 1975, which was like forty years ago.
