Why do you hate Pokémon?

And Empire Earth III (Maybe II as well).

Just to tell you, any "new" ideas for games that Nintendo has(e.g., Animal Crossing, Pikmin) don't even do NEARLY as well as their old school franchises like Mario and Zelda and Metroid etc.

And think about Age of Empires. The first game was a flop, the second game was awesome, the spin-off was also nice, and the third game was a flop once again.

I despise Pokemon because it gave way to a new generation of poorly animated cartoons. Look at a majority of new cartoons these days, X-men, Superman, Batman, they all conformed to low quality animation. The reason is because the new generation of kids grew up on Pokemon, so now new shows adopt a similar style to appeal to that demographic.

For all of you in your early 20s, remember growing up watching X-Men and Batman. Those shows had superior animation compared to today’s crap. I am not bashing anime, I am bashing crappy anime.

90s > Present

Maybe I don't understand the appeal because I am :old:

Pokemon Gold/Silver was when Pokemon was at its peak (game-wise, screw the cartoons). After that, the maps just didn't flow very well IMO, which lead to a dull game despite the improvements. And the new pokemon just suck.

QFT........every single one of the games since then just aren't as good......

Yes, thats exactly it, of course, but why dont you like POKEMON, not modern anime.

Ah Silver/Gold Version...The only version where the game was improved than its predecessor. 16 Gyms, 2 regions, breeding and Baby Pokemon, introduction of Day and Night, day/time base events (Bug Catching Contest, Different Pokemon at different times) two new types, Steel and Dark, Running Legendaries, Apricorts and New Pokeballs, the coolest sore loser rival(Starting Ruby/Sapphire, they want to be your friend XP), shiny pokemon, updated Storyline as a contiunation of the last and not a whole different plot and more.

Yes G/S/C was the best

Agree 100%. I love G/S/C.

I agree with Swedishguy! There are only 346 Pokemon! Bulbasaur to Jirachi!

As far as I'm concerned, the world ends at Celebi.

Which are the best RPGs ever made.

Aaaaw, come on, isn't this taking it a bit too far ?

EDIT : Damn ! What a lame 500th post. I was saving it for something special, and look how it ended...

I think there are two main reasons, I agree with the second but not the first (and I LOVE Pokemon:mischief:).

1. They are too juvenile.

2. They have sold out too 8-year-old girls by adding hundreds of new species with a focus on cuteness rather than the pure awesomeness that the original 150 had had.

Well, OK I guess everyones' tastes has to be satisfied.
However the 'goodness' of a game should not be rated by the amount of sales, especially when said game has been milked to the extreme.

EDIT : To be clear, would you say that Pokemon is a better RPG than, say, Baldur's Gate or the Elder Scrolls, or Fallout ?

Did you just question Pokemon's greatness as an RPG, because I can tell you whether it's the best: Yes! It's "party" system works wonderfully, walks the thin line between easy and grinding perfectly, has a great item system, is never too punishing when bad things happen, and has a ton or replayability.

Exactly. The game wouldn't have sold like 40 million copies and spawned anime and cards games if it didn't rock the hell out of a Gameboy.

To be honest, I was actually arguing the fact that Pokemon is not a "proper" RPG, seeing as its mostly linear.
But I realize it's a battle that has been fought before, and that there is no use to continue it further.
Pokemon is the best selling Console RPG ever, I'll grant you that. Personally, my preferences in that genre goes to the earlier Final Fantasy (up to the 6th). if you prefer Pokemon, that's fine.
But have you played Western RPGs ? I'm quite sure you'll find a level of depth that is more satisfying in the end than the mindless bashing of endless monsters.

I find this article, while still incomplete, quite interesting in pointing out the differences between the two genres.

That game MADE the Gameboy, it's the reason I've bought 3.

Well Diamond/Pearl was a runner-up at IGN for Best RPG of 2007, so they can't be that bad nowadays.

Yeah... Its either base on cuteness or something spacey/futuristic and made from plastic of Metal
