Why does the game company not give away detailed information about the game math??

I've got the impression that the details of game rules regarding corruption etc. have been figured out by dedicated players by a tiresome trial and error process. Does it really have to be this way? Wouldn't it be much simpler if the game company makes official all details that game gurus would ever like to know about (except the source code for the program) in a "game details" section, like mathematical functions governing corruption etc. I see no rational reason to keep those functions secret.

im pretty sure the people who spent the painstaking hours to figure out the mathematical equations are proud of what they accomplished, if firaxis gave away that information than the "true" civfanatics would become to easily bored with the game to early and would not be able to enlighten our feeble minds with such information.

I think Alexman was also a beta tester and I know he has seen some of the code or at least he said so.

It is property that they would rather not make public as it cost them time and money.

hmm,

How does firaxis choose its beta testers?

Do they choose skilled players or is it just random ?

And is there any time indication on the when civ4 will be beta and release? ? :D

If they'd choose like 100 good players, who knows, maybe i could be in it :p

If I understand what they are saying about Civ4, you should be able to modify the core gameplay code. There are plenty of programmers and others who know code well on this site. I am pretty sure they will be able to "look under the hood" and tell us all the hidden math.
