Why is the "O" key next to the "0" key?

Well, French keyboard sucks even more. They aren't QWERTY, they are AZERTY...
But worst... to type a dot (.), a slash (/) or a question mark (?), we need to hold shift ! For the dot !

The qwerty layout was designed to slow down typists on manual typewriters IIRC. People could type so fast that the hammers would tend to get stuck on each other, so a redesigned keyboard slightly slowed people down and this problem was avoided.Vanadorn said:

Dell19: thanks for that link; it looks interesting. I use a fitaly layout for my pda (see http://www.fitaly.com/) which is MUCH better than the palm graffiti or on-screen keyboard, but I may look into this.
(It makes no sense for a full-size keyboard, where my philosophy matches TLC's: I've learned qwerty; I type reasonably-fast with qwerty; why mess with it?)

Its quite irritating for my user name. My name has an 0 in it, but i prefer to use the O. But when i try to use the O, i accidently use the 0. Very annoying.
I could never tear myself away from the QWERTY keyboard. Too used to it i guess. I don't like typing slow, and thats what i would be doing with a new key combination. And Marla, thats hilarious
