The Assyrian Empire is one of the oldest and longest lasting civilizations in history. I know none of you need a history lesson on who these people were but there reign lasted longer than almost every civ in the game right now.

We have Babylon and we have Persia yet Assyria predates them both.

Babylon and Assyria were at a time, mortal enemies, this would make for such a fantastic scenario.

Why no love for Assyria?

The games not done yet!

And to go on...

As of right NOW you have access to twenty five playable civs, not counting the nine coming in G&K. It was eighteen when you got the game in it's vanilla days, not counting Babylon, which makes nineteen. Not counting Babylon and the G&K we got Six additional civs since the game's release. So if we add G&K it's thirty four total civs in the game thus far, and if we count the inedibedle Zulu, it's thirty five.

Thirty Five civs that we can say are in the game for sure, and it's been almost two years since the game was released. My prediction is by the end of Civ 5's life, by the time it's considered good and old and well played, we'll have a total of straight fifty civs to pick from.

Assyria will be there, I would imagine.

Probably they would end up feeling rather similar to Babylon and Persia, at least to most players. Not everyone is a history buff, you see, and to them the three would just be "Three dudes from Mesopotamia"

So why add a third empire from that region, if there are so many other fun places of the world to choose from?

That being said, the Civs don't get choosen based on historical accomplishments. People need to stop to see CiV as some kind of History Ranking of the world's greatest badasses. That ungodly discussion about the new Leader of Byzantine was more than enough to illustrate that to me.

I agree with you, however I think the ancient civilizations are suited to this game far better than some modern ones. I never really liked the inclusion of the USA (No offense) nor do I think the inclusion of Etheopia with their modern leader is a good idea either.

I can see why Firaxis would include Persia as one of the three big Mesopotamian civs however I never understood why we get Babylon over Assyria. :crazyeye:

I dont think Assyria has ever been in a civ game...
Which makes it a perfect canditate for V. I'd put Asyrria above Sumner anyway. They also have a famous (semi-mythical) female leader that could be used, too, Semiramis. Thats always a bonus. According to these myths (amongst other things), she rebuilt Babylon, had the hanging gardens built, Ruled all of Asia and Africa, added Ethiopia to the empire before being killed by her son Zoroaster. According to history Shammuramat was regent during the Neo-Assyrian Empire, which was at its hight at the time.

Thats correct, the two middle eastern civs that have been in previous civs hat have yet to be added to Civ 5 are Summer and the Hittites
