Ok so its my first emperor game ever, and I'm the Incans. I quecha rush cathy and it turns out that Julius is the only other AI on my continent. I think, no proplem right? He's a little war-like but not so bad if you can share a religion. So i spread Hinduism (Cathy founded it before I rushed her) to him, I convert to Hinduism, and he jumps to pleased. But he won't trade with me . I've got all sorts of + diplo modifiers on him, shared religion, I gave him tribute, I gave him help, I've got the open borders +2, and the resource trade + (he was willing to trade clams for fur). Only - diplo is "you declared war on our friend"... i guess cathy was his friend. I've got +10 (+11, -1) diplo on him all together... why oh WHY won't he trade with me:confused:.... it's like i'm isolated.

The AI won't trade if you are the only other civ they know (although I think Mansa will, he is the exception however).

AI usually won't trade away "monopoly" techs. Since you are the only Civ he knows, all techs you don't have are 'monopoly' techs.

How many other civs need to know a tech before the AI starts trading depends on the AI, sometimes it is 0, sometimes 2, but usually 1.

I forgot about that, being friendly cancels the monopoly thing, UNLESS you have a vassal they aren't friendly with.

You can win easily more 3 diplo points with JC by pushing the "Fair deals" ( aka human ripoff by a AI ) to its maximum of +4. That will put JC to Friendly almost surely

He will be willing to trade Alphabet and Monarchy at pleased, that's about what you can hope for unless you get him to friendly or you meet other civs.

Hey thanks for the advice, I was able to pull off a space race victory after an infantry war with Rome. I was trying for a domination/conquest victory but Darius I on the other continent grew way too powerful and large, oh well, a win is a win
