I would like to see some kind of revolution or national unity mechanic as some have suggested. Somehow tie it into social policies and happiness, perhaps triggered by espionage.

If there is another expansion - and I believe there will be - I suspect it will be based on revolutions, late-game war, and diplomacy.

You could take such a literal interpretation of any civic and use it as a criticism.

I'm not using it as a criticism, just pointing out that slavery was not in Civ 4 in any meaningful way, any more than it was in Civs I-III or is in Civ V. You might as well argue that religion's a big part of vanilla Civ V because the Piety policy track is often used. That hasn't stopped calls for a separate religion mechanic that's more reflective of the way religion operated historically (particularly through effects on diplomacy). The forced labour aspect of slavery, while obviously the reason for the trade, does not reflect its historical relevance, which mostly resulted from the trade itself and its demographic effects (which in slave owning cultures tended to increase population size, not lead to wholesale culls of a city's native population).

I'd want it to focus on revolutions\flipping, diplomacy (specifically: international trade routes and passive trade bonuses), and future era. Also, anything G+K leaves to improve (religion, espionage, city state favours), but I would expect patching to take care of any obvious issues there.

I really hope they'll add an Alpha Centauri expansion just like they did with Colonization for Civ 4

It'll be extra awesome if they actually used the CiV leaders instead of the SMAC figures. Can you imagine Chairman Sejong squabbling with Consul Montezuma over whether nerve stapling populations or sacrificing hearts to Planet is a greater moral wrong?

Actually, that doesn't sound that bad at all. :D
Especially with those two leaders you chose as the example.

SMAC Scenerio/Remake would be nothing without the original Leaders as one of its major strengths was the incredibly good Voice Actors / Characters* and the deep, rich stories behind the Planet, the World and in every minor little detail like Mindworms and Isles of the Deep. :)

(* Perhaps it would be possible to use the old sound files in any remake or such... ?)

Yes, I just never have got over the sad fact that there has not been anything new regarding SMAC in 12 years...

I'm another SMAC fan that played that game to death! What a great game it was too, with it's expansion, Alien Crossfire!

To remake it with the Civ V engine would be truly awesome. To once again control the Locusts of Chiron, but in the Civ V engine would be a dream come true!

There was so much original content in that game, content that was real fun, especially in AC where you had the choice of 2 alien civs too!

Is it too much to hope that a 2nd expansion will do this?

Yes, it was only half the game without the Alien Crossfire expansion. I feel we are now experiencing a bit similar situation with CiV and Gods & Kings. :)

Yeah, my favorites were Prime Function Aki Zeta-Five of The Cybernetic Consciousness and the two Alien Races Guardian Lular H'minee of The Manifold Caretakers, and Conqueror Judaa Maar of The Manifold Usurpers. With Vanilla SMAC it was Lady Deirdre Skye of Gaia's Stepdaughters and Chairman Sheng-Ji Yang of the Human Hive. (Oh well, the memories... *reminder to myself, not to talk about SMAC too often* :p)

Definitely not! :)

Will there be a second full expansion?

I believe there will be a second expansion to the game. Since Civ II there have always bean two expansions per game. I do not believe that the DLCs count as an expansion in and of them selves. A second expansion would be much smaller than G&K.

What would an Expansion include?

Economic Enhancements: National currencies with exchange rates depending on Economic strength. International Trade routs. Economic Victory Type.

Corporations: kind of act like religion start in one empire and expands to other empires. Unlike religion they don't spread to cities but to empires. they would provide benefits to both the empire the created them and the empires they spread to. But they should also be a liability sometimes causing problems for all.

Politics: colonies a way of managing portions of your empire on a distant land masses or just portions of an empire that are separated by large expanse of unused land or another empire's border. currently there is no penalties to this sort of settlement and it seems weird.

I voted yes, but I honestly think it could go both ways. G&K seems to have added pretty much all the essentials that are found in previous Civ games. I don't think anything major still needs to be implemented. That said, judging by past release cycles, there's still a long time until Civ VI... So maybe there'll be a smaller expansion? Something akin to a larger DLC?

If they include something like Internacional trade routes, they should think in some way to include piracy and trading routes of illegal products, like slaves for example .

International trade routes

Step 1 - Secure luxury resource x by building city x nearby
Step 2 - Sign open borders (my god, a use for open borders !)
Step 3 - Explore their territory, find their capital
Step 4 - Automated caravan unit appears near city x
Step 5 - Caravan unit automatically moves towards their capital city
Step 6 - Caravan unit reaches their capital, you get gold bonus, they get happiness bonus
Step 7 - New automated caravan unit appears
(Repeat)

If caravan unit is destroyed, you loose gold, they take a happiness penalty for x turns.
If you destroy an opponents caravan unit, you get gold and a happiness bonus for x turns.
If multiple caravan units are destroyed, the two civs blame each other and suffer a diplomatic penalty (Something like "You could not protect our trade routes and our people have suffered as a result"). Eventually, one side will cancel the OB, so the trade route stops.

imo simple enough and with a low amount of luxury resources on the map wouldn't really cause that much more work.

I call my expansion "Traders and Raiders" or "Merchants of death" or something similar.

I'm not sure if there will be another expansion but I sure hope so. I would like to see two full future eras like call to power and also a prehistoric era where you could not found a permanent city until you discover agriculture. Maybe for the prehistoric era there would be an option to not be able to select your civ until you found your first city.

I'd also like to see additional civs of course and additional leaders for existing civs mostly to give the AI different personalities. For example you may get a peaceful leader for India as opposed to the current war monger, Ghandi.

This. I have always had the worst of luck with Gandhi, I even lost my Capital to him once.... I was ashamed. He is always taking my frontier cities and irritated me to no end.

I hope there is, somewhat related to the revolution idea people have had, a xPac that adds civil wars. Civil wars would be pretty random but the less happy your people are the more likely it is that civil wars would break out

Not forgetting DLC's there could be plenty of things to do for another expansion. More leaders etc, micromanagement features, future era etc.

I don't believe that there is going to be another expansion, probably few more DLCs and that's it.
The only thing they could improve after G&K is Future Era and that is not likely to happend.

The major system i could imagine them bringing in to any future expansion is politics.

Depending on how much thought they put into it, it could be a completely new system basis or an identical replica of culture. Either way i don't mind, but it could introduce some interesting new dimensions to gameplay.

I also hope they add (improve?) unrest, civil war and all that jazz. They could tie this in with the politics. Each civ could have a certain number of randomly generated minor leaders who's names come from a list similar to a city list of other famous leaders. These leaders would obviously be vying for power too, and politics trees determine how and how you can defend your position in addition to other bonuses to your civ. Spy's and religion could also have heavy influences on this.

What i'd really like to see though is anything as long as it brings some unpredictability and instability. I never get any kind of historical feeling about this game when it all goes according to plan 99% of the time. And it is important to remember that most empires weren't brought down from the outside.
