I like the idea, CYZ, but it might be hard to create an appealing title for that.

Civilization V: Black Death

Civilization V: Pathogens & Plagues

Civilization V: Beyond the Microscope

Civilization V: Epidemics & Empires

Well there is a book called this and there is a theory called this, so what about:

Civilization V: "Guns, Germs, and Steel"

If they tie it in with Jared Diamond that would be awesome. Of course, it would make a lot more sense if they were adding the Inca and Maya at that time. However, an expansion focusing on "Native" civs (probably Africa and North America, but I could also see a general Imperialism focus that includes the East Indies) might tie in well with that (they would almost certainly have to include the Portuguese as well).

Exactly. What sells better than well designed destruction; and would give us a theme for more civs. Native based around the world. And then with that theme of course we would get civs like Indonesia. A Jared Diamond tie in would be great too.

Well, there's a reason that companies have marketing departments. The reason is that a single person visiting a forum cant be expected to think of the most amazing title in just a few moments ;)

Really, the title is the least I worry about. There's people that are good with that, I prefer thinking about exciting gameplay elements.

There you go. Health and disease might be a main gameplay element. But it ties in perfectly with colony and global trade mechanisms. All together it seems like a very appealing package to me.

And that's just what a few people thought up on the internet in their free time, imagine what a company with people paid to do this every day can do :)

I'm 99,99% sure there's room and potential for an expansion. It might still not happen for many reasons, but it won't be for that.

They should make an expansion called Civ 5 - Nobles, slaves, and tradesmen.

The game lacks a social class system and trade mechanics. All cultures have them in different kinds. Some of the population would become nobility and be better at specialist work, while the slaves who are captured from other nations and barbarians will be bad at specialist work but do fine when working the fields, mines and forests. They can be moved around inside the cities like in colonization.

A third kind of population would be traders who are either earning extra gold for a city or sent out as caravans to establish trade routs. The trade routs will be visible on map by land or sea and earn more money the longer they go and if the other nation got other trade resources. It will be possible to block the trade routs.

More bonus and trade resources will be added and divided up for the different continents. In Asia you find Rice instead of wheat, while in Americas you find corn and Buffalos and so on. The barbarians will look different too depending on the continents. More pirates and natives added.

The last feature of the expansion is to ad another unique unit or building for all available civs. So would we buy this expansion? I would for sure!

Beyond the Sword was largely a showcase for the mods that were possible with Civ 4's SDK. Another expansion is possible simply because Civ 5's SDK hasn't been released yet.

Source code. The kit has been released.

That's the DLL, right? Gotcha.

Yeah, dll. Civ4 misnamed the dll as sdk.

If you are going to be picky about names you should say "DLL source code" rather than just "DLL". (The compiled DLL clearly is included with the vanilla game.)

There are still things to get out of Civ 5 via an expansion. Along with the additional civilizations and the additional units, there is the possibility of:

• More technologies.

• Better diplomacy.

• Random Events

• The return of Corporations.

• The possible introduction of militant groups or other forms of causes of challenges for the later game.

• A U.N. that one can pass resolutions as oppose to just serving as the crowning hall of one of the players via the timed diplomatic victory.

• A more improved diplomatic victory.

• As well as possible new concepts that one could bring to the table.

These are just some possibilities.

@ mitsho, a nice list. :)

I'd add new social policies (like environmentalism) to it.

That would be pretty cool to give such an addition to the game. I've always found the simple-minded populations a bit annoying; just provide them enough food and happiness and they won't complain that you are the supreme ruler which decides whatever happens to them. Perhaps with additions such as civil wars and environmentalism will provide a lot of variation in gameplay (changing ivory tiles into wildlife parks that provide other benefits, why not?). Or perhaps the addition of a decreasing happiness level the longer a war takes, due to people becoming tired of all the warfare (of course dependable on who's the aggressor).

I like the idea of diseases as well. Launch a couple of diseased piglets over the borders of your enemy, wait until its population is dying out and conquer the remains:D

the yellow statement means we already have it in either g+ks

Yes, there will be another add-on.

Firaxis will not leave money on the table.

CIV V Gold, CIV 5 Platinum, etc. This series is a cash cow, and why not? People want to buy CIV product.

CIV VI will be here in 2015 or 2016.
