Has anyone else seen this? I assume it's a bug.

Really, that can happen?

Ah, the Portuguese did have the Great Wall. I'm interested to learn that it's a known bug.

Yeah, it's because the GW puts a wall in other towns, and there is no other structure except a Wonder; the arty tries to destroy the wall, cannot, so the Wonder gets it instead.

I had to reload because of this yesterday. I wanted that Great Wall.

I have never had a wonder get destroyed by artillary. What is the great wall bug? I would like to know so i can avoid it?

I lost the Pyramids to this bug once, it was very upsetting. Apparently this bug is present in the 1.22 patch. The only "solution" is to avoid bombarding cities with wonders that are owned by the holder of the Great Wall.

Is this hard coded? I saw it once too with the Great Wall

Yup. That "cheat" is actually a bug. When they added the SGL to the game, they failed to completely correct the AI's GL handling. (Pre-Conquests, the ONLY GL was military, so all the code just checked for GL. They missed fixing that bit of code for the AI's "rush" capability, so ANY GL will work for them.)

Feel sorry for the Ports, though. Must be the first civ conquered. :(

EDIT: NM, seems they still have their own island.

Actually the Portuguese were the third civ to go, after the Arabs and the Celts. This game was another example of how strangely the program interprets the archipelago setting--five civs started on the same small continent. By about 500 AD I'd finished off the Portuguese and the Maya too without meeting the other three civs, and so was playing with no contacts at all, a fairly rare situation.
