Wonder Elimination Thread

I would think Hanging Gardens wins

Hanging Gardens 10
Oracle 10

Without hesitating a second.

Hanging Gardens 11
Oracle 7

Again, without hesitation, haha. I will just be angry if oracle wins. i didnt even think it was worth a top 10 spot.

Hanging Gardens 8 -3
Oracle 8 +1

Well...this is now an impossibile choice...The Oracle comes at a great time...

The people are talking about deserts tiles not the resources and other tiles(oasis/flood plains) associated with desert.

But as I've pointed out numerous times, there is no reason to settle flat desert or build Petra on it. It works with every desert tile except flood plains, from incense and sheep hills to Barringer Crater. Not only does this make suitable terrain for Petra a lot more common than people assuming 'desert = one basic desert tile type', but it also makes a point I've made several times already: it's not the Wonder's fault if you build it in the wrong place.

I'd have been happy with Petra falling foul of the Oracle (although I'd personally rank Petra above the Oracle), but falling before Pisa is just wrong in my view.

CI been killed by Petra lovers :-(

And Pisa, Garden and Oracle lovers...

Uh- Oh. It's down to two now. Election day has come. Which one is the Republican and which one is the Democrat? lol

Republican: Hanging Gardens - used to support privileged specialists who make the rest of the population unhappy
Democrat: The Oracle - Imposing social policies on the people through big government.

Tough call personally but I gotta go with HG for the growth spurt!

Petra 0 (-3)

Oracle is simply good enough on any map, no matter the situation.

Petra is awesome but situational. Only about a fourth of the time will you have a city surrounded by 3 or 4 desert tiles, enough to max out this bonus. Bye, bye Petra....

Sad to see the demise of Petra....such a powerful wonder...in my current game as William I have a beautiful Petra city...a mix of desert hills, flat desert next to a small lake and even a couple of Polder tiles....

Anyway to make a long story short, I found myself taking two of Marie Therese's coastal cities with five Frigates and a Sea Beggar...all because she cheekily denounced me within two or three turns of having met me. Unfortunately I only had one hex for a 3-range Frigate, so I could only take potshots at inland Vienna...[I had one cavalry waiting for the finishing punch.] But my spy found her building Brandenberg Gate...11 turns to go...my gorgeous Petra city could build it in seven...so out of spite more than anything, I scooped her on that wonder.

I love Petra...and, of course, spies...;)

Hmmm, so I take it the Oracle will win by default... lol (in relation to this year's America federal election).

This whole thing is awesome. It's either the Hanging Garomney or The Obamracle. lol. I guess we should stop voting and let Ohio decide which is best.

I was thinking more like this:

HG - Democrat: funding the arts and population growth through a beautifying garden project. (more citizens = more tax payers, haha)
The Oracle - Republican: Consulting the leader of your religious base to further influence lobbying groups.

haha, politicizing these are kind of fun.

Hanging Gardens 6
Oracle 6

A free social policy early in the game is more helpful than more food early in the game for me.

This can be over in 2 votes if back to back haters/lovers of the same wonders appear.

Hanging Gardens 3 (-3)
Oracle 7 (+1)

I am not hating on either. I am voting oracle for its ease to build.

Yes, I did think of an alternative version in which the Oracle was Repuiblican to reflect overreliance on religion.

Trouble is, the Oracle actually works...

Argh. The pressure. I want to end it but I can't:

Hanging Gardens 3 + 1 = 4
Oracle 7 - 3 = 4

HG has more of a whole game impact than Oracle - more food > single SP at the early/mid game when its more critical. I think. For tall games / wonder spamming.

Petra deserved not to win. Everyone was talking about their "beautiful Petra city...a mix of desert hills, flat desert, etc.". That's awfully situational. I can't recall the last time I had a desert city. I tend not to have more than four cities anyways and usually don't spawn or place them near deserts.

HG always gets built by the AI.
Always love getting a free social policy!

Hanging Gardens 1(-3)
The Oracle 5(+1)

Is it just me or should the winner be at least mildly feasible to build at any high difficulty
