Wonder Graphics: Ziggurat

New wonder Ziggurat! Took me an hour and half, searching for an image to base it I found one computer model pic which was even in from right perspective with civ3 standard. So some copying and pasteing and tidying and packing and there it is. And idea to make it is from Ozymadias so I practicly did no work at all.

I think the "wood" look is because it's "a bit computerized looking, clean and cold". I agree it would be nice if he could make it look a little more "stone-like".

The brown/tannish shade works alright I think at a glance due to the near-exclusive use of mud brick building materials. Think so?

Accidently I saw a documentary couple weeks ago about the ziggurat Tower of Babylon. All the images shown in the documentary showed the building dark brown. This one,
Ur-Nammu is the same color. This is from the page I took the image:
"Its outer faces are of baked brick, are inclined to a pronounced batter and have regularly spaced, flat buttresses. These outer faces encase the solid core of mudbricks."

I've visited Egypt and also in Luxor and the surroundings the ruins of smaller temples and such which were made of bricks were of same color. Not perhaps as dark as this building, but their materials may well get lighter shade during the centuries so I guess that computer reconstruction may very well portrait it in right color.

When you use just computer-generated surfaces they always are bit flat, in other words plastic. I usually draw my own surfaces but takes a lot of work. For me it's almost the same to do a building from a scratch, than to start to mess with the image because if you make corrections to one part you usually have to change the rest. I often do use some building as a base. With gestapo building I did whole thing myself and then noticed that could have saved an hour by using some existing sim civ3 building. So what I'm trying to say here I probably will not change the ziggurat since after all I'm happy enough to use it myself.

Actually, the original Zyggurat was well colored with light blue.

The temple on the top of the tower is full blue painted, to look like the sky.

Babylonians, called the Ziggurat of Babylone : "Etemenanki". The translation of that Babylonian word would be : "The house, base of sky and earth".

This tower make the link between the ground and the sky, that's why the base is brown colored and the top is blue.

Ok people you've been so nice to me I thought what the heck. I changed the shading and shadowing little and made the blue top. Admittedly it looks bit better though in some ways out of this world. Hard to play with a computer generated image. Well, at least you can choose from two of them.

Now I'm off to see Dharma&Gregg rerun!

No surprise there -- "vanilla" Civ plays to very Western-centric historical stereotypes. Pyramids and Elizabeth Taylor, etc.
