Wonder Ideas for C2C

I thought about it, but I won't. I've got four reasons why.

  1. The key to the Golden Spike, the symbolism and reason I made it a World Wonder, is the SINGLE act of driving in the Spike. That makes it a unique thing, which by definition is a World Wonder. I'm not going to sacrifice that.
  2. Using 2 National Wonders to determine the endpoints of the railroad wouldn't guarantee a true coast-to-coast railroad.
  3. As Koshling said, it would be very difficult to force the second building to be on the same continent as the first. It's not completely impossible, but it would be so clunky that I would hate it.
  4. Making them National Wonders would mean that every civilization could build one.
I had another reason, but it slipped my mind somewhere along the line.

On the other hand, it's not impossible to have the Python algorithm create both a hypothetical east-west and a hypothetical north-south route, then build whichever of the two is longer. Would that work?

TBH, the way it works now is fine most of the time. Just fix the Python errors for the broken cases (a simple if to determine if each leg is actually non-null) and I think it's ok - not worth spending a lot more time on.

Don't know if it has been mentioned, but would a wonder be feasible for the Royal Tyrrell Museum.
Bonus to construction with the Canadian culture.
Happiness bonus with the 'Fossil' resource. Needs the Fossil resoure to be built.
All fossil buildings provide happiness and culture, and a little bit more science. (Since it is a fairly rare thing to see on the map)
Great person points for 'Great Scientist'.
The building itself, provides commerce, science and culture. Some base happiness. All cities +1 happy (?).

Great Scientist name, Joseph Burr Tyrell.

Just thought I toss it out there.

I just tried initializing pMaxWest and pMaxEast to pStart in the beginning and I think that will solve the problem. I just wasn't sure what the pathing algorithm would do if it was trying to calculate a path to itself, but it doesn't seem to cause any issues.

Hey guys, I've been lurking on Caveman 2 Cosmos on and off for more than a year and decided to contribute a at least something. I went though the Great Wonders tab on the Sevopedia and marked down every country included(That I could) and how many times, I also left out the Corporations and the Voodoo religious building(Because there's no way of knowing where it was founded.). Other than that, the other religious buildings and a few of the inventors workshops/laboratories I just put their home country. All countries/territories are current day locations not ancient or the original makers. Anyways enough rambling, here's what I came up with:

Spoiler :
U.S.A. - 35
France - 16
China - 15
England - 14
Germany - 11
Greece - 11
Egypt - 10
Italy - 10
Iraq - 8
Japan - 8
Iran - 7
Turkey - 7
India - 5
Mexico - 5
Russia - 5
Spain - 4
Canada - 3
Israel - 3
Mali - 3
Peru - 3
Scotland - 3
Vatican City - 3
Australia - 2
Austria - 2
Brazil - 2
Cambodia - 2
Ireland - 2
South Korea - 2
Burma - 1
Easter Island - 1
Finland - 1
Guatemala - 1
Hong Kong - 1
Jordan - 1
Monaco - 1
Norway - 1
Oman - 1
Pakistan - 1
Poland - 1
Portugal - 1
South Africa - 1
Switzerland - 1
Syria - 1
Taiwan - 1
Thailand - 1
United Arab Emirates - 1

Thought it'd be an interesting list too look at to see which countries are getting the love and others who aren't.
Note: This is using a SVN that I downloaded 2 days ago, I can't recall the number.

P.S. My first post, yay. :king:

35 for the US? Wow... I'd no idea it was that weighted!

Yeah, it's pretty interesting to see the numbers out like this. Carhenge is at least one wonder I'd like to see taken out, it's just... Not as important as any of the other ones on the entire list, at least in my opinion.

One thing I did notice is that Great Mosque of Desert and The Great Mosque of Djenné are exactly the same building, just with different names. Great Mosque of Desert is used as an Islam building though and The Great Mosque of Djenné isn't. It just feels weird that one can be build by someone and the other can be built by someone else..

I like Carhenge. Its both funny and cool.

I also don't think its fair to compare the USA to other countries. The US is big. If you compared say the EU to the US then maybe that would be more fair. Or even by region ...

- Africa = 14
- Asia = 36
- Europe = 87
- Middle East = 30
- North America = 44
- Oceania = 3
- South America = 5

As you can see even with combing all of the North American countries Europe still has around twice as many wonders. And Poor Oceania only has Australia (2) and Easter Island (1). We need to get some New Zealand or Tasmanian wonders in there.

@Vokarya

I was looking through some old ideas I requested to Afforess back in the RoM/AND days and wondered if you could make them into wonders. Note that the stats can be changed. I just liked the core ideas of them.

Callinicus' Workshop (Great Wonder)
Cost: 2400
Culture: +2
Great People: +1

Requires: Iron Working

Obsolete: Gunpowder

Special Abilities

  • +50% Science
  • Can turn 3 Citizens into Scientist.
  • City More likely to generate Great Scientist.
  • Ranged, Siege Weapons and Wood Ships get "Greek Fire" Promotion

Greek Fire (Promotion)
+10% City Attack
+25% Forest Attack
+25% Jungle Attack
+100% vs. Wood Ships
+100% vs. Siege Weapons
+100% vs. Melee
+100% vs. Animals
+20% vs. Early Tanks

200px-Hand-siphon_for_Greek_fire%2C_medieval_illumination_%28detail%29.jpg

Reason: This is to simulate "Greek Fire" cheirosiphōns that were made during ancient times. They were very much like modern flamethrower units. However this technology was lost until the modern era.

-------

For this instead of greek fire what if it gave faster production of the Arsonist and Ancient Flamethrower units? Or even the Dromon (aka Fire Ship).

Zhang Heng's Workshop (Great Wonder)
Cost: 1000
Culture: +2
Great People: +1

Requires: Canal Systems, River City

Obsolete: Steam Power

Special Abilities

  • +50% Science
  • Can turn 3 Citizens into Scientist.
  • City More likely to generate Great Scientist.
  • +25% Production (Water Power Machines)

200px-Clock_Tower_from_Su_Song%27s_Book.JPG

Reason: This is to simulate Zhang Heng's water machines that were made long before the industrial revolution.

I'll add them to the list. I'm still working through the last of my original ideas, and then I'll start work on the many good ideas from this thread.

I could see it giving access to a unique and powerful equipment too.

I have a few more Wonder ideas to clear out before I start going back over this thread for suggestions. Here's one of my Artist helpers.

What's missing:
  • +1 :) from Artist, Celebrity
  • +2 :) from Great Artist

The idea here is that it grants extra fame to your Artists and Celebrities, as measured in Commerce (which I currently can do) and Happiness (which I can't). I'm actually surprised that Specialists can't grant innate Health or Happiness; maybe that was too strong with civics that grant unlimited numbers? So I suggest a couple of additional tags: <ExtraSpecialistHealth> and <ExtraSpecialistHappiness>, and then you would get something like this:
Code:
<SpecialistExtraHappiness>
	<SpecialistExtraHappy>
		<SpecialistType>SPECIALIST_ARTIST</SpecialistType>
		<iHappinessChange>1</iHappinessChange>
	</SpecialistExtraHappy>
<SpecialistExtraHappiness>
to grant +1 :) from all Artist Specialists.

This also breaks one of my design rules in that it does require other Wonders before you can build it. I chose to require that you control at least one entertainment hub before you can build the Walk -- either Broadway (theatre), Hollywood (movies), Rock and Roll (music), World News Network or National TV Station (television). I think with that many choices, you wouldn't be too constrained as to where to place the Walk. My general objection to having one Wonder as a direct prerequisite for another is that once the first is built, there is no competition for the second. Here, you can still get beaten if you have any of the hubs, or even if you control all four World Wonder hubs.

Here's one I have wanted to do ever since I saw Pop Art. I did the studio of one of the most famous pop artists: Andy Warhol.

View attachment 335785View attachment 335786

I'm not that fond of the X's Y naming convention of Wonders, but since the real name would probably be The Factory, I went with adding the proper name.

So in order to emphasize that this is Warhol's Factory, I gave Great Artists the ability to build this. This will give Great Artists at least one thing they can do in the late eras.

What's missing:
  • +1 :yuck:, +4 :culture: from Artist specialists
  • +4 :culture: from Hit Singles
  • +4 :culture: from Drugs

The idea here is that Warhol's Factory produces more art (in the form of :culture:) but at the cost of the artists engaging in some fairly unhealthful activities (thus +1 :yuck: from Artist specialists and Hit Singles). This would need the <SpecialistExtraHealth> tag that I proposed in the Walk of Fame post.

@Vokarya

Those are cool! I had some more ideas. This time some Los Angeles ;) ones ...

La Brea Tar Pits
Req Tech: Paleontology
Req Building: Museum
Req Terrain: Tar Pit in City Vicinity

Getty Center
Req Tech: Archeology AND Modern Art
Req Buildings: Museum and Art Gallery

Grauman's Chinese Theatre
Req Tech: Motion Pictures
Req Building: Movie Theater

Capitol Records Building
Req Tech: Mass Media
Req Building: Recording Studio

The stats are up to you. Thanks in advance! :goodjob:

@hydro

Special powerful promotios is a good idea but i think that great person should enable it like it is in realism invictus. Notice that this special promotions in reality comes from single persons that had ideas above their times.

Wouldn't this one be better as a "Natural Wonder" or did humans actually build it?

Its a little of both. The Tar Pits were there before humans however a Museum and excavation pits have been set up on parts of the pit. In fact its more than one pit. The iconic pit at the front of the museum has life sized replicas of the animals that once lived and then died in the tar pit. Which is why I think it should be a Wonder and not really a natural wonder due to the human impact on the site.

La_Brea_Tar_Pits-Los_Angeles.jpg

Wouldn't having Fossils as a resource requirement do said wonder well? It's the whole reason it's famous, after all.

I was thinking maybe it should produce a fossil resource. Having both a tar pit and fossils near the same spot of the map is rare. However in real life tar pits generally get lots of fossils since animals fall in or think its a lake to drink from. Thus preserving their bones in the tar.

Here's another wonder from my original batch of ideas: Westminster Abbey. This was a Wonder that I thought of just as I was starting to get into modding and thought you could adjust anything that was expressed as a number. It turns out that some numbers need much more work to adjust.

View attachment 335944View attachment 335945

What's missing:
  • +33% :culture: from Great Artist creating a Great Work
  • +33% :hammers: from Great Engineer rushing production
  • +33% :gold: from Great Merchant trade missions
  • +33% :espionage: from Great Spy infiltration

The idea behind Westminster Abbey is that it honors your dead national figures. Therefore, it boosts any Great Person effect that is expressed as a one-time bonus (so it doesn't help Prophets with Shrines or Scientists with Academies; I'm not sure about XP from Great Generals). I thought of Westminster Abbey first, then I thought of extending the ability to single types of Great Persons and increasing the bonus, which led to Pere Lachaise Cemetery. At the very least, I want this to do something with Great Persons.

What do you think of this one?
