Wonder Ideas for C2C

The problem is most of the wonders are already too cheap. If you make powerful wonders and have them with comparative hammer costs it means whoever gets to that tech first will get the wonder 100% of the time coz its so cheap. Things like this totally screw up balance because going for tech strategy will become more powerful and certain civs will be at a disadvantage, in particular industrious civs will never get a chance to use there bonus because all the wonders are already built.

Don't forget you can easily double your production to build this, u can trade for gold resource pretty easily. Reduce the 'double' with gold to 50% i think.

I'll cut Golden Spike's bonus with gold back to 50% and add them to the SVN with the current costs. I want to keep the costs close to the cost of other existing wonders. I feel re-pricing wonders has to be done to all of them at once.

I also think that most of the wonders are way too cheap... especially if you "buy" them, it is possible to get many wonders in the turn you researched the tech since you have too much gold in the modern era and beyond... Maybe the "+X% speed with [resource]" should be changed to "requires [resource]".
Speaking of the gold-problem, I think the random events should be rescaled. I saw the Monte Carlo events in this thread which gave you around 600 gold. Thats not that much in modern eras... same as the 50 gold for the wool sales ;)

Next point is the dinosaur park. You do not really NEED the DNA from dinosaurs. You just need to know the SEQUENCE. With improved knowledge of Genetics and all the pathways that regulate the biochemical processes of a cell, with comperasons to known species (birds, reptiles...) and advanced computers it should be possible to design a DNA which may not be the same as the original dinosaur DNA, but leads to an animal with the same appearance and behaviour. So I would changes the requirements to cloning, cloning factories, cloning laboratories, advanched computers and maybe a new tech called advanched genetic engineering or something like this (I think if you already have advanched computers, molekular biologie is a bit out of date).
The main reason to put this park earlier in the techtree is, that you dont really need a dinoaur park, if you may offer you people vacations in the past via timetravel ;) Even if the timetravel is only for very rich people payable, no-one sees a dinosaur-park as a worldwonder at this time...

But the dinosaur park lead to another idea: What about an alien-park? I dont talk about intelligent aliens, there should be some planets with lower lifeforms, too.

And the last thing: I love your wonders! Great job!

I'll admit that gold needs to be recalibrated. My endgame treasuries easily get into the millions.

The reason for Dinosaur Park being all the way at Time Travel is that I wanted genuine dinosaurs at much less risk to the timestream. It would be easier to get dinosaur genetic information than to take people back to the real Jurassic. I think what you are describing fits the Artificial Life technology, and I have a whole separate plan for that.

One of the nice things about new technologies is getting a place to put new wonders. For example, with Charters technology, one could charter a great fair. Or even more than one.

Scarborough Fair is an homage to the version in the World of Legends mod. That Wonder was the direct inspiration for the <GlobalExtraBuildingCommerces> XML tag. World of Legends had to use an Event to grant extra Culture to Markets and Grocers, but we can do it with just a tag. I tweaked the numbers a bit and extended the bonus to Bazaars.

Troyes Trade Fair has been done a couple of times. Tsentom1 has a Python version, and it also appears in Civilization Revolution. My version is meant to parallel Scarborough Fair, although it gives slightly less culture and more gold, and it boosts the gold production instead of the culture of Bazaar/Grocer/Market. I really couldn't find a good medieval image for Troyes Trade Fair, so I just went with a colorful tent.

What do you think of these two?

hmm... your argument is valid, but i think if you actually COULD do time travels (maybe a time-travel-vacation-resort?:P) smallers the OMG_factor of the Dinosaur Park. I mean, what if the Great Lighthouse was built only 5 years ago instead of 2300 years ago? People would just say: "meh... just a stonetower, nothing special..."
Same with Dinosaur Park, if you already have artifactal life, time travel, Alien Zoos and such things. It would be not much more than a normal zoo nowadays IMO...

EDIT: Could you make a "Grand Tournament" National Wonder at Tournaments tech that requires the Jousting Tournament building?

I'm thinking of the name King's Tournament. Can the game support multiple OR Civic requirements? Something like this:
  • Government Civic: Despotism OR Monarchy
  • Military Civic: Vassalage OR Standing Army
Could this be done, or would they all run together into one massive block of OR requirements?

I'm going to have to start deleting some of the old screenshots from this thread. I hope it won't bother anyone too much. I'm getting closer to the attachment size limits.

There are buildings that have such. It is just one list of OR civics since all have a unique name.

Increasing the "cost" to build a WW or NW is understandable (within reason). But whomever made some of the Wonders have long term costs (continuously running costs, like the -Gold on Univ of Sankore for Every main religion building in the Empire) has ruined the choice to even building them.

And since you cannot sell, abandon, or demolish a WW or NW you're screwed if you were used to building the WW for "Benefits". Univ of Sankore, in particular, is now a No Build! Let the AI build it and watch their treasury go down the drain instead. :( Bad choice imho.

I agree that wonders generally shouldnt have negative effects. If they need balancing better to just tone down the positives

So who's Not listening DH?

It's the -2 commerce on state religion. Rather unfair tax on State Church Civic, when imho it should be a + commerce for State and Free.

Also -19 commerce on several other Wonders? As well as certain science buildings?!

So here's another Wonder idea I came up with. I haven't uploaded to this to the SVN, because it is sort of an alternate timeline building, but it's really no more implausible than Nemo's Naval Academy. I think there is enough mythical resonance here to qualify as a Wonder. If anyone really objects, I'll withdraw it, but I thought the idea was fun enough to include.

It's one of the most famous street addresses in history.
It's home to the archetypal detective.

221B Baker Street.

I was originally going to put this at Gas Lighting, but that's a late-Renaissance technology. This is what sparked the idea of the Criminology technology. Moving Alcatraz and the Police Station was just a bonus.

The reason for the Security II promotion is that the Agent units you should be able to build by then already have Security I, so this stacks with that. I wanted 221B to specifically train Espionage units that can catch enemy spies.

So what do you think?

We also have 007 and Lara Croft. Why not Sherlock Holmes? In fact, I say take it a step further and make him a global unit unlocked by the building!

Rosetta Stone - As it is right now this wonder is too powerful. I get the concept, but being able to switch to Universal Translator civic in the early Industrial Age is equivalent to +40% science in all cities until later Transhuman Era. Also, even on very large maps, only one Ancient Relic seems to appear, meaning it becomes a matter of luck whether you have the chance to build it.
