Wonders of Destruction 2

One of the greatest and most versatile fighters of WW2, the Fw190...

Nice picture of the US M270 MLRS. It is not the multiple launch rocket system, but simply arguably the best going around at the moment (although it would have been improved with MSTAR).
In terms of power of an artillery piece, it cannot really be compared to a conventional howitzer, and certainly not to a fuel air bomb.
The role of the M270 is to distribute its thousands of bomblets, which make life rather uncomfortable, and unlikely, unless the lucky sod is inside a bunker or particularly well armoured MBT. The role of the fuel air explosive 'daisy cutter' bomb was originally to clear landing grounds for helos, and later used as a heavy impact , even psyops weapon.

It is one of the best artillery pieces on land; but howitzers can put a greater amount on target by sheer virtue that they are easier and faster to reload. The MLRS is the divisional commander's personal shotgun; the howitzers are the semi automatic rifles, with several clips of ammunition in close reach. Rocket and tube are both essential parts of the king of the battlefield; one cannot properly replace the other.

And now, some rather nice pictures:

speaking of artillery... the crusader

according to army-technology.com
One Crusader vehicle can fire up to 8 rounds to strike a single target at the same time. The digital fire control system calculates separate firing solutions for each of the 8 projectiles.

another good picture of the m270...

Ahh, I see the old mutant child of mine has revived, the WONDERS OF DESTRUCTION! :goodjob:

So, let me just post a pic of one of the two prototypes of the futuristic German two-gunned mega tank, Panzerkampfwagen VIII 'Maus':

cmaus.jpg

It has a mighty 128 mm German high velocity main gun, and a smaller short-barreled gun, 75 mm of size - it can barely be seen behind the big one.

Despite the impressive stats of the unit, it most likely would have been a failure on the battlefield, as it was simply too huge, too easy a target of aircraft, too slow, too clumsy, and it would have been a nightmare to put into mass production...

BTW, didn't they terminate the Crusader programme?

I'm not worried about the ramjet shells. The Syrians haven't got them. I'm most definitively worried about their Gazelle choppers armed with a wide variety of AT missiles as well as Egyptian SABOTs.
Those are realistically my potential threaths.

Yes, I intend to enlist to armor. Tanks rule.

I don't think you should be worried about them old gazelles. The IAF has shown it's capabilities when fighting choppers, and due to the new systems they have Merkava MK III & IV are more likely to shoot down the gazelle than he'll shoot you. Strangly the Syrians had some success with their choppers, but today they seem to want to invest in advanced Migs and SUs and in Sam systems than in helicopters. Not that they can invest in anything serious, as the Americans won't sell them anything (for obvious reasons), Russia won't sell them anything (because they want Syria to pay off it's 10 billion dollars debt to them) and they're not likely to buy anything from China, India or any other country.

I always wondered why Sweden invested so much money in developing a stealth ship.... What do they need it for?

Why does Sweden need such capabilities? Who's gonna attack it?

Every country needs to be able to defend itself. Even though it's not likely to expect any hostile relations with the neighbouring countries within the next ten years, it is necessary to be able to put up a fight if faced with invasion or the like. Better safe than sorry, as they say.

These five ships will have many roles to fill, anti-air defence, anti-submarine duties and surface confrontations.
That they are stealth designs only helps them in their would-be duties.
