if I make an invisble army unit that can be upgraded by each civ into their own unique army unit, how do I make it so civs cant just build armies by themselves?
Unfortunately it seems that units cannot be upgraded to an army. Armies can be upgraded to regular units, but not the other way around. Thus you’re limited to having one per era.
Oddly, you can upgrade a unit to a leader, but not to an army.
Thats too bad, I'd really like to have civ specific, or atleast culture specific armies in my epic mod. But it the hard coding limitations, and the AI's inability to use armies will have my rethink this...
You can upgrade an army, but only in a city which can build them (i.e. has a wonder with the effects of the military academy), I think. If you make it so leaders make some other unit instead of armies, and then make a couple of extra wonders allow the building of armies, you could have a fair amount of civ-specific ones.
