World Cup 2006 - Groups

Group C is the freaking group of death... christ.. Côte d'Ivoire can do some serious as whooping, Serbia you never know what they're up to and don't get me started on Argentina. Now it is all teams we have a chance against.. but man... some group.

Germany, Poland (or Ecuador?)
England, Sweden (Paraguay isn't that good)
Argentina, Holland (hopefully)
Mexico, Portugal (easy group)
Italy, Czech Republic (sorry yanks ;))
Brasil, Croatia
France, Switzerland (France always gets cut some slack)
Spain, Ukraine (easy group as well)

And Fred... I'm coming down to kick your ass for predicting the group of death!

btw.. isn't it really suspicious that Germany and Brazil were seeded in such a way that they can't meet each other until the semi-finals? Really..

As it has bebecome a habit lately, we got the easiest group and start against Angola. That's gonna be quite a show at my place. :D
But then, if we qualify we get paired with a team from Argentina's group, so the chances of advancing past the second round aren't looking so bright.

I also predict Brazil as champion... ;)

Not really. It' holds true to all A-D root teams (as long as they and us win their/our groups as expected). The WC works in two blocks, really, and Germany and Brazil went into different ones...

THIS WOULD BE FUNNY IF IT'S NOT SAD!

SPAIN in first pot. SPAIN IN A FIRST POT!!! SPAIN IN A FIRST POT?!?!?

Sorry Spanish people but this is redicilous...

Yea I know MONEY MONEY MONEY

BUT THIS IS TOO MUCH!!!

The Netherlands delegation should not left the other day pot desission session but they should, in good old NATO way, bombard em. They diserved that much more than some other in real political life...

Piece of cake:

Brazil, (Japan or South Korea), Saudi Arabia and Trinidad & Tobago.

That way, we would only really have four real games to win the cup...

regards :).
So Brazil want to get their 6th star by winning it easily ? ;) Then there isn't much value in those stars, I guess.

My bet for WC is a team which has already won it, and with a much better performance from traditional teams than in WC 2002 and EC 2004.

I mostly agree with the analysis given by Dell and willem.

The German group should be a walkthrough at home, anything else would be hugely embarrassing. Equador will likely not live up to what their qualification (3rd in South America) promises, as there they profit from their unusually large home advantage in the height (and thus gain points against Brazil et al that for example Paraguay doesn't gain).
Costa Rica should be beaten in the opening match so the strongest opponent will be Poland. Surely not a bad team but at least second place has to be the result for Germany. That of course could then mean a second round match against England...

Spain may never live up to their expectations but they do regularily qualify and importantly got to the quarter finals in the last world cup and were somewhat unlucky to go out to South Korea. Mexico were the weakest seeds.

As for group "C"

William don't get too optimistic. Any of the team can reach next round, even possible combination Serbia & I. Coast (tho I'm afraid that Fifa (mafia) will try somehow to repay unjustis made to Duch (but indirectly to Argentina as well - I will not say anything about Serbia -they exclude us in any sfere of life on earth:( )

But who ever reach next round will not go much further.
Reason: They'll have 3 hard matches (as semi or quarter final) already in group and will be exosted in next games. Anyone who understand what >>tournament<< means know that :(

Oh, i'm sure France would switch places with Argentina or the Netherlands in it's glory seeking... ;)

Anyway, it's hardly possible that the favourites could do much worse than the WC 2002 (save Brazil and Germany, of course, though barely).

Regards :).

Well, FIFA did their best to ensure that...

Quite a few groups might get pretty boring, when the two "big" teams meet in the last match.

I totally agree.. but if you'd have to choose favourites, it would be Argentina and Holland of course. But it can indeed go either way, and I think Argentina has a bigger chance than Holland actually.. I'm afraid group C will be the tragic end of a favourite.. the loser of the game Holland-Argentina.

Also a little interesting fact on group C:

The Côte d'Ivoire team has Bonaventure Kalou... and the Dutch team might have his little brother, Salomon Kalou (if he gets his passport).. two brothers playing each other on a World Cup.. it probably happened before, but still it's a nice fact if it comes true.

Well there was Korea, in qualification group was Serbia, than they have to change WHOLE SYSTEM of extra qualification so they wouldn't play against Czhehs. I think FIFA should finaly take some serios steps to made them Champions of the world:rolleyes: And they finaly doing something abot that!

True but I can understand that as a try to make more equal to some other continents than Europe. But we already have in this competition few (not only Holland) European countries better and with more tradition in W.C. than them.

PS Every game that Spain NT or there clubs play are not possible to watch anymore as how much advantage they have by referes...

AND THATS TRUE! Try to denie it...

agree!

Can you imagine that for example Holland takes 2nd place in group (probably with lots of sweat) and than they have to play agains Brasil or Germany or whoever is 1st...in next round (same for anyteam in C group)

Yeah, well, we all know that FIFA leaves as little as possible to chance in these draws.

Still, it's not really a "conspiracy" as some thing, just a manner to try to drive the theoretically more appealling games to the last stages, when all the world attention will be on them.

GROUP B
England
Paraguay
Trinidad & Tobago
Sweden

YAY all good for england so far.. spains got it easiest though!

Englands Group looking very promising from and England fans point of view although with us there will be some scares along the way luckily we have Sweden last as we havent beaten them for over 30 years

Do you want to actually try to back up that? Bearing in mind that South Korea were probably luckier than Spain in the quarter finals and not everything goes the way of the international team or their club sides.

Basically Spain are a seed because they qualified for the last World Cup whilst Holland missed out because of Ireland.

The runner up from group C should theoretically be playing Portugal or Mexico if they follow the traditional format so it wouldn't be a total disaster.
