World of werewolves

Just playing a game as Sandalphon when Baron Duin Halfmom turns up with a stack consisting two greater werewolves and a host of blooded werewolves; about fifteen units of averaging about strength 8.

I have managed to research Mysticism, Calendar and just about to get Mining. Its Deity but I can't be that far behind. Also the Illian player did his trick about 50 turns ago so no ones been building anything recently (Its marathon)

I open up the world builder and see a huge sea of greater werewolves and blooded werewolves coming towards me. Holly ****. I check the Barons power graph and its gone vertical!

So what’s up? I assume some horribly unbalancing event! Well I guess it’s meant to be a dangerous world!

Baron as leader of Doviello has a chance to spawn a warewolf in a blooded battle, whatever that means. The problem is, you get one warewolf and that is all you need.

But I concur, horribly unbalanced if that has happened so "early" in a marathon game.
Possible fix: "blooded" battles cannot occur until certain tech is known, like Animal Mastery?

I played as Baron and against Baron on many occasions and to be honest I had only seen the warewolf come once, and that was playing as Baron and during the time of iron working / bowyers so it was not overpowering to have them at that time.
 
Civ4 in general isn't balanced around marathon speed. Many things are more powerful like heroes. guess a few balance issues will always remain

interesting story though with the werewolves :)
