Worst Backstabber?

Alright guys, who do you think are the worst backstabbers in Civ? I'd really have to say that I hate those ****ing French! Both Napolean and Louis have backstabbed me constantly- Louis declared war on me even though he was pleased! And Napolean is always threatening me even just as soon as I meet him!

Besides the French, I also always known that Montezuma will backstab me as soon as I see him, eventually. Who are the leaders that have backstabbed you?

Sidenote- why didn't they make Napolean aggressive as a trait? He was aggressive and arrogant as hell in real life. Why did they change it in warlords?

There is no bigger backstaber then Louis XIV.

At least caving into threats from "insane" monty or keeping him very happy will stop him.

Louis XIV will always attack you if he ever smells any slight weakness.

I don't know about Louis being a backstabber but Ragnar and Hannibal always seem to attack me even when "pleased".

Yeah, I thought so. Lately I've been eliminating him entirely if I find that he's a rival. Ugh.

well, i havent played enough to know of a serial backstabber,
but last game i played, wang kon attacked me when he was on pleased terms with me, it was a late war so maybe he was just trying to prevent my domination victory, over the course of the game i had given him plenty of techs and ALWAYS accepted his demands... he was on pleased,
10 turns later he had been crushed, and was a powerful vassal ally of mine to finish off my win, lol!

Maybe it's easier to list those who DOESN'T backstab. I find that almost every leader attack you at any opportunity unless they're "friendly" with you esp. at levels noble and above. Some eg Brennus, Victoria, Ramesses, Louis and Alexander are worse than others. But then some rarely backstabs eg Hannibal, Qin Shi Huang, Mao, Washington, Frederick.

Washington has backstabbed me countless times actually.

Hes not a big backstabber but hes not a peaceful AI either. He will start wars when he feels he can win them.

I think charismatic fits him better, because he was hugely charismatic. I know, pretty much all major leaders were, but some stick out more then others. I think he is one of them that could make things happen by sheer will of personality. Plus I also equate aggresive with being purely militaristic...like Genghis Kahn or Ragnar. Napoleon wasnt.

Anyways, for backstabbers I would list in order from worst to least likely to backstab you...

1. Monty, of course
2. Napoleon
3. Alexander
TIE 4. Religious nuts...Isabella first and foremost, then Brennus and Saladin

OR

TIE 4. All other aggresive leaders, plus Huyana

5. Random people who like to fight. Catherine, Mehmed, Louis XIV, Julius Caesar


Really, in the course of my games Ive been attacked by pretty much everybody, even Gandhi and Mansa Musa.

I second all suggestions of Louis being the worst nuisance.

However, look at the positive aspects of the situation:

a) Who does not like to bash the French?

b) If they declare on you, you have a lot more time to eliminate them because War Weariness sets in much slower if you are defending. I've used that to my advantage numerous times. He declared, I fought off the initial invasion, then eliminated him at my leisure, while refusing all peace offers (knowing that war weariness is killing him at this point, already).

I have a fresh back wound from Alexander last night. I have never been backstabbed by Monty, though I guess that is more because I am expecting to be attacked by him.

Louis and Napolean. Monty is bad also, but he always seems to be far behind me in technology and disliked by most other civs to be considered a real threat.

Indeed! I hate him. I have had him turn on me 2 times before as in Friendly relations. Friendly! WTH! I never trust Louis anymore. Oddly I am not really concerned about Napoleon when he shows up. But I have had Louis turn on me even with many +'s many times.

Believe it or not, I've been turned on by the British. I hate victoria. She could love me one turn, then the next, when she gets her redcoats on a boat, its on. Dirty English traitor! I was a couple turns from signing a defensive pact and down the tubes it went.

I've never had her backstab me. I find this really amusing.

O.o Funny, I've never been backstabbed cause I'm usually the backstabber >.> <.< XD Okay not allll the time =P And definately not people I'm pleasant or friendly with, cause that's usually rare being the war monger I am. Maybe I should try on higher difficulties though.

Once I helped someone because the AI was nuking them and I felt it was wrong (aka I wanted my foot in that continent but I felt I needed to make a political justification XD) Anyways after that the person I helped declare war on me I was quite angered. And then stinky Isabella joined the other guy so I was even more mad! But they got justice

But I'll have to make sure I watch out for those evil Frenchies xD (I'm part French so it's all good >.>) Anyways your stories made me laugh =P What about the German's? I tend to love Germans cause well, they're Germans. xD

I've NEVER had a problem with the Germans. They are all so friendly and nice, and usually they are way behind me.
