This list is full of woofers and memes. I'm not sure where to start.

I am not sure about worst, but AOC was cited as one of the most ineffective. While she proposes a lot of bill, she has not gotten backing, even compared to other Congressional freshman.

She's not good, but I don't think she can crack top 5 in this list. She lacks some basic understanding and offers up some pretty bad legislature, but I get more of an ignorance vibe than the kind of vindictive hate emanating from Omar. Also while she's backed by some deep pockets, that's nothing special in this list and I don't think she can match the worst in terms of flagrant lying/double standards/corruption of like 10+ people in this list. I don't follow her that closely though, did I miss something that could actually put her among the worst on this list?

She says some inconsistent/head scratching things, but "ineffective" would be a compliment compared to some of the others...who know what they're doing, do those things contrary to public interest, and do them effectively.

Effectiveness in passing bills is not a good measurement of a politician's success, especially in a dysfunctional badfaith environment. There have been very few meaningful and positive pieces of legislature passed in the last 50 years, and most of them are either passed in response to sudden events (bailouts, stimulus, disasters, sanctions) or are the recurring budget bills. It doesn't really make sense to care about who the initial cosponsors or whatever are on such a bill. Effectiveness is mostly a cheap shot by centrists aimed at the wings of their party. Ideological politicians (actually pretty rare) are typically going to want something that has no immediate chance of being passed. To them, success is measured by changing the conversation, moving the overton window, etc. AOC has been very successful in this regard due to social media, and she can take some credit in min wage hikes around the country, at least at the state level.

This is a reasonable case against her, but not nearly enough to make her worse than much of the rest of this list.

I know I am guilty of going off topic on threads (very recently in fact), but please lets not make this a Russiagate thread! :please:

The thread is about the worst members of Congress and I assume why they're the worst. I think what they've done on the job is on topic but its your thread and I've already been warned so I wont discuss the merits of nominees further.

Moderator Action: Red tags are a wake up to change your posting now!
Moderator Action: Green tags are a nudge that you are perhaps moving into an area should not.
Moderator Action: Blue tags are like green. They can be used for information too.

I nudged you with green tags to keep the discussion from straying into the morass of 2016. Had I wanted to poke a menacing finger at you I would have used Red tags. :)

This focus on the political officials themselves is why we are all doomed. These people are nothing but avatars for the interests of their donors. If Mitch McConnell or Lindsey Graham or whoever stopped doing what they are doing then they would be out no later than their next primary. I am not native enough to believe there is anything particularly unique about any of these people. Given the opportunity there would be no shortage of capable and willing people who would be lining up for a chance to take their place.

Shoulda made it four, so it was a Mount Rushmore of Bad, but oh well.

1) McConnell

I'd like to use my other four votes for McConnell, but on the assumption that you won't allow me to do so

2) Jordan
3) Cotton
4) Johnson
5) Cruz

my metric is just how long I can listen to them speak without wanting to punch them.* And I'm not a violent fellow.

*I have to measure in micro-seconds to make some of the discriminations

While I may agree with you, as I much prefer to tackle inequality with taxes/benefits, a pretty clear majority is in favor of such increases, and certainly Dems are. For perspective, FL went for Trump and simultaneously passed an amendment (>60%) to raise the min wage to $15.

Minimum wage hikes as a negative is such a great hot take.

Honestly McConnell in particular has a talent and vendetta like mentality about twisting the US government as much as possible. His effectiveness
In this task I think is unique. I don’t recall anyone in my lifetime in the US rep bodies being as effective at attaining and maintaining their goals.

It's neck-and-neck whether that's dumber than the idea of Ilhan Omar being full of hate or whatever

I literally read takes like that as “these peons don’t deserve hikes, fudge them” and “that brown immigrant should stfu if she knew what was good for her, how dare she criticize her nation”

Id like to see some excepts of the hate Omar spews, I can’t think of anything off the top of my head.

Remember to hold the theory that the absence is part of the siloization of our media. There are things she says that we don't see, and we certainly don't see the spin on the things she says. IIRC, the spin is that because she was raised in an anti-semitic background, she has a proclivity towards being insensitive on that topic.

This is why I'd like to see evidence of it. Being against the state of Israel's treatment of Palestinians is not spewing vile hatred. Its clear that if that is all we are talking about this is just more euro-centric racism stuff.

No, no, it's just objective logic. The minimum wage is bad. This is top logic; you may not like it, but this is what peak rationality looks like.

I find the "Squad" to be rather obnoxious, so I voted for AOC, Omar, and Tlaib. My other votes went for Pelosi and Green because they (in my opinion) epitomize the worst of both parties
