Wow....plus SMAC mod reborn!

the game itself had an amazing plotline, brought to the player with an immersive event system. At certain times, or after certain milestones, you would get a full page of text, written in story style, describing the plot line and about Planet.

I think this is a must-have element for SMAC reborn.

OK Chairman Sheng-ji Yang finally heave place to live :)

Never played the game...

But I'll definitely try out the mod!

Are you guys bringing back some of the orginal leaders? If so, I would like to see some of their quotes make a return as well. AC was easlily the most quotable game, ever.

Do you still need people in your modding team? I'm not familiar with Civ 4 modding but i'm working as a programmer so i think i may be useful after a while. Though my only experience in game programming was a Master of Orion I clone that i made 12 years ago (with all features but the AI, i didn't know how to code it).
And of course i'm a SMAC fan :) I still remember my game on "slower tech discoveries"/ 20% research rate (changed in ini file) where i had an army of 450 Super/Clean formers converting a planet to a parking lot with only cities, boreholes and condensers in sight :)

SMAC was what Sid (and company) did when he left his original company and went off on his own. It was a civilization-like game that was basically set "after the people of earth got to Alpha Centauri".

SMAC was non-historical and contained signfiicant plot elements that explained the strange world you ended up on. They put in the kitchen sink in many cases, and would add features even if they knew the AI couldn't exploit them at all effectively, so long as it made the game interesting. After all, you can always ramp up the AI's ability to cheat to deal with that kind of tactical hole. ;)

So you had planet-busters that changed the terrain, significant terraforming, spies that bought cities, water cities, space satalites that sent resources down to your planet.

The AI was set up to "role play" their faction in a reasonably convincing manner -- it was set up so that you knew why you where at war with a faction: because of ideological differences, not because of blind grasping for power.

Because it was set on an alien world with future technology, a lot of the suspension of disbelief problems go away: your leaders do live for centuries, because you have the technology.
Nicely put :)

@asioasioasio: Awesome! :goodjob: I'm a big Hive fan (and a Plannet Cult fan). I also love the terrain graphics in the pic. Looks fantastic. :)

Hmmm, are they Monoliths I see? :D

I think we're hoping to find a place for every notable quote. :D

Planet Cult cityset is done as well, but I've swamped asio.

And yes, that's a monolith that asio made a while back and is in the download database.

thank you, i'm also very glad with effect
it's not only my job with cityset - half of models i used was made by woodelf :)

Cool. Both my favs done :)

How long would it be until a working model is released in some way? Or is it too far off to really know for sure? (I don't mean to put pressure on you's or anything, just curious :))

Well, CoP is done graphically, but not implemented in game as of yet. I think the plan is start with original 7, get the mod running, and then expand.

I think we're still a ways off, but we are steaming forward.

And one more screenshot :) - This time Provost Zakharov's Headquarter

Holy crap, this is probably the coolest thing I've ever seen done with Civilization IV!

If you guys can pull this off... this thing is going to totally own any modpack that has ever come before it.

Sorry in advance if this was already discussed in the last 13 pages, but have you guys found a way to make the units modular? Like adding weapons, armor, etc, like SMAC does?
