WW II Infantry: German Mauser 98 Pack

I have a stragler to throw in from the Mauser 98 pack animations. This time an Afrika Korps rifleman. Just a single unit this time. He's posted in the OP above.

I have one more Afrika Korps guy to turn out and then it will be on to the Grey guys.

I used Steph's new Sandris Story Board Builder program on this last guy. It seems to be working very well. No problems so far. Thanks Steph! :goodjob:

Here is a Grey uniform I worked on yesterday evening. Just a sample run animation so far though. Let me know what you think. It isn't a finished unit yet so I can always make changes.

Grey Color looking Good
"feedback suggestion"...This has been said before and I am being very particular here but soldiers run holding their rifle with both hands, ready to use them. They are taught to care for their weapons with great respect and would not hold them with one hand and sling them as they run :)

Yes, I'd prefer that too.

I'll work on a run carrying the rifle with both hands. The main reason I was using the single hand is that I can use the same run with any weapon, whereas if I use two hands the run needs to be taylored to the weapon.

actually, if you watch footage of our (that is: US) troops, they ALWAYS carry their gun with both hands, whether it is a modern assault rifle, sub-machine gun, or a bolt-action rifle.

Not that your units are bad (because they are most certainly not: they are quite good!), but you could still use the same animation presets for all units, just make it two-handed going forward. :)

One more update, the second Afrika Korps guy is posted in the OP now. Now on to the gray uniforms. I'll try to do a run with the soldier holding the rifle with both hands from here on out. This last unit I actually did the animations and eveything before I decided to do a two handed rifle run though.

Just save the two-handed run pose and the one-handed run pose as separate entries in your pose library... That's right, you can save an entire animation as a pose file (just have the base figure selected and when it asks, make sure that the "entire animation" box is checked), and use it in all sorts of future animations... I saved my animations for Captain Jack Sparrow, the Female Sniper, the archer, etc, and have used those animations many times for many different units (I used a modified version of Captain Jack Sparrow's death on my Rufus unit).

Looking good! Make him grey and you've got a real nice early-war Infantry to use in Europe. :)

On that note, I believe the codes for feldgrau are:

Hex triplet #4D5D53
RGBB (r, g, b) (77, 93, 83)
HSV (h, s, v) (142°, 17%, 36%)

Yes if you trust whomever wrote the wickipedia article. However if you look up RAL color sources the chip for feldgrau is much darker #585e55 that is if you are using RAL 7009 the Germans also used RAL 7010 (zeltgrau) # 565957 and RAL 7013 (Braungrau) #585346. I also even found a reference for RAL 6006 #3b3d33.

I matched it up with the color our company uses on our footlockers and such, and it matches up pretty well.
