WW2-Global

Rocoteh,

I'm just wondering: are you planning to convert your scenarios for Civ 4? Is such a thing possible or would you have to recreate them from scratch?

I'm looking forward to your "Europe in Flames" scenario. A bigger Europe map would make the WW2 action there much more interesting strategically. I rememeber a fantastic WW2 European scenario for Civ 2 - some kind of genius created it. I can't remember the name of the scenario, but it was great.

Yes, "World in Flames" is coming soon, but how soon? This game has already been in development for 12 years - maybe longer - probably a world record! Once finished it will be the ultimate WW2 computer simulation for many years to come. What's equally exciting is that "Stategic Command 2 - Blitzkrieg" is also coming - at Easter! What with the new "Hearts of Iron" release, 2006 could be the best year ever for WW2 gamers!!

THIS IS AWESOME! I CAN'T IMAGINE HOW MUCH TIME AND EFFORT THIS MUST HAVE REQUIRED!

ROCOTEH:king: - YOU ROCK!!

I will check in and let you know how it goes.

Charge!!

Roger Houston,

Thank you for the positive words.

Yes many days and hours have been invested in WW2-Global.

Welcome back with more comments.

Sasebo,

Thank you for the report.

"France 2.2, Sid, Week 10,1940- France is Axis free!!! ...they decided to go play with Russia instead. Yay for me! No cities have changed hands yet, but I see Germany is down to 31 PzIIIe now. The Soviets do bleed them nicely, and I nipped a few of their heels as they were leaving myself. Also, we took Palermo! I'm going to try and work my way up the soft underbelly. Minimal forces involved, since I don't have much to spare. I'm going to use the breathing space Germany has gracefully given me to try to finish up a few hydro plants as well as build up forces in France proper."
Sasebo

France saved! that is very good work considering the massive attacks
the Axis directed against you.
If the war between Germany and Russia will continue you maybe will be
able to counterstrike.

"Japan has added 9 Yamatos, but I may have over looked those the last time. That's OK, the UK is up to 43 KGVs. Sadly, I've yet to build a single naval vessel of my own this game, it's been way too tight to spare the production. Also, my naval squadron of a BC,2 CL, And 5 DD is finally approaching India, with the subs trailing far behind, off the S.African cape. That has been one loooong trip, but I will have my naval squadron in the Pacific.

Oh, and the German paratroops at Corsica were defeated by our rushed in reinforcements, Huzzah!"
Sasebo

With regard to AI naval production its obvious that AI will choose
a " best buy" and then it will only produce that unit!

Thank you and welcome back

Hubschrauber,

Thank you for the report.

"The Italian G-50 Freccia civilopedia link still doesn't work"
Hubschrauber

It will be changed in the graphic update.

2I'm still playing Germany 2.1 and I'm in the end of 1940. I'm trying to keep it as historic as possible but its getting difficult. I am currently at war with Sweden, just captured Malmo and they will be out of the game within 5 turns. I'm going to give Sundsvall and everything north of that to Finland."
Hubschrauber

It sounds like a good idea.

"Currently I am at peace with Norway but, they only have Narvik left. I have there southern cities and Finland captured Hammerfest in our previous war in early 1940.

In the Med I took Corsica from the French in mid-1940 and just captured Cagliari from the Brits who took that city in early 1940. That is going to be my staging point for the Invasion of North Africa."
Hubschrauber

Yes from Cagliari you will able to hit North Africa with your bombers.

"Right now I have complete control of the North Atlantic and am sending some ships and u-boats down south. I have on u-boat operating off the west African coast and spotted a convoy of a Battleship, transport and a few DD's. I have been shadowing it for a while, it has been going north than south and back again with no apparent destination. Then I spotted to Japanese Heavy Cruisers coming up from the south. I think thats why the convoy went north for the 3rd time"
Hubschrauber

You are probably right.

"And I think I might scrap this game to start version 2.2 as Italy or Finland."
Hubschrauber

Looking forward to hear from the new playtest.

Thank you and welcome back.

Bob1475,

Thank you for the report.

"Soviet Russia Emperor 2.2

Hello Rocoteh I am back. Decided to play right away as Soviet Russia as most go for Germany. Also, as has been my past practice I will test first at Emperor level before going up."
Bob1475

Welcome back.
Soviet playtests are always very interesting.

1939 Report

"1939 ended with no military action - a success. Workers are everywhere mining, roading and in some cases beginning the long railroad which will be indispensable in future wars. Technology is very slow and we are still not in a postition to take on a major power. Only Moscow has been fully built out and it has been assigned to generate flak units as our only effective weapon against eventual German luftwaffe attacks. Hopefully we can hold off any action until mid 1940."
Bob1475

Yes an early war with Germany is never positive.
Russia needs time!

"Germany quickly eliminated Poland in week 37. In week 38 Germany declared war on Norway which was ended in week 52. Norway retains all starting position cities so I expect it was a sub bug war."
Bob1475

That problem will be eliminated with regard to Norway in version 2.3.

"Germany has taken the low countries plus Lille, Verdun, Strasbourg and Lyon. One city has been razed (west of Marseilles and SE of Bordeaux). Scandanavia and all other neutrals remain in starting positions.

All civs remain in starting positions in Africa so the Italians are holding out so far."
Bob1475

Razing is probably due to auto-razing.

"Japan has taken Yenan in the north and Canton in the Sourth (although China has Amoy). Japan has Manila but the US holds out in Davao."
Bob1475

Its positive that China so far holds its positions good.

"Rocoteh - I have looked in the editor and saw no changes to the power situation. I presume you have not changed any of the multiples."
Bob1475

I not sure how you mean. Both Coal Plants and Hydro Plants now
increase production with 25% instead of 50% in version 2.1.

Thank you and welcome back.

It's working. It takes a long time for huge scenarios like this to load (we're talking hours). That's why I wanted the save files- they take much less time.

cheers mate. im a happy Soviet now. :)

Zedi,

Its working.
You just have to wait 5 minutes.
That is: If your computer has 512 MB RAM and 3.0 Ghz.
If its slower it will take some minutes more.

Rocoteh

thank you! :goodjob:

It took about 10 minutes on my laptop, not bad at all considering I have 512Mb of *shared* memory, and other programs running. I always thought that it was the number of units on the map that made for such huge load times.

I'm playing as America, Warlord level (I like to test the waters first :D). My first thought was, that's a HUGE navy, and mostly obsolete, and a very small army. Was America's ground force really that small at the time?

another thing: What do you think about giving the Axis powers (or at least Germany) an element of surprise by making all other players skip the first turn?

Yes it sure was that small.
*
I'm playing at Regent and as France; I gonna try and hold out against the Germanys. It took me around 5 miniutes. Also there should be allinces.

Weasel Op,

With regard to what you mention its a good load-time.

On US ground forces:
Yes they were really small. In fact they were smaller in reality than
in WW2-Global! The reason is that in WW2-Global I assume that
the 6 infantry divisions of the National Guard have been mobilized.
There was no draft until 1940.

On Axis surprise:
Its worth to consider.
The problem is that most players prefer to play Germany and some of them
already think its to easy. Axis surprise would make it easier.
Again: Still I will consider it.

William GBTW,

No doubt France is the hardest major power to play.

Rocoteh

I will report. I have played some as France and I am shutting down the Channel in anticipation of a Germany Naval assualt. Please add alinces.

William GBTW,

I looking forward to your reports.

I am not sure how you mean concerning alliances:
There are already 8 nations in Allied alliance and 4 nations in Axis
alliance.

Rocoteh

imgrumpy,

"Rocoteh,

I was just reading an article in the paper about Nokia. It stated that before cell phones became Finland's biggest export, timber and rubber dominated trade. I wonder if you should add rubber to Finland.

Just a thought."
imgrumpy

Its an interesting idea. I will check out how Finlands industrial
structure was 1939.

"Rocoteh,

I was poking around in the editor and noticed that the KGV does not have lethal sea bombardment. Also the Iowa class has lethal land bombardment. Are these errors?"
imgrumpy

KGV is an error. Thank you for reporting it.
Iowa is not an error.
However its possible I will take out all lethal land for all battleships
in version 2.3.

William GBTW,

OK notes have been taken.
No decision yet.

Looks Great! I love the French Naval situatin! This is by far the most detailed World Map EVER! Rocotech you in a catergory with the Great El Justo!

marklv,

"Rocoteh,

I politely suggest that you post an explanation of how to install the scenario on page 1. Not everyone here is tech savvy. Thanks."
marklv

There is a explanation at Post 2 already, but OK I will see if its possible
to make it better.

"Rocoteh,

I'm just wondering: are you planning to convert your scenarios for Civ 4? Is such a thing possible or would you have to recreate them from scratch?"

I will wait until Firaxis release an editor. I can not write code.

I think you will find Europe in Flames interesting.
It will include East US and East Canada.

marklv

Yes you are right. Its 12 years now! However the developer at Matrix
have stated it will be released August.
Strategic Command was a great game so I expect much from
Strategic Command 2 - Blitzkrieg.

Its incredible that wargaming is still alive after all these years!
I still remember when I bought my first wargame from Avalon Hill
more than 40 years ago.
