All the best wishes for the years to come!

After all, WW2-global is the reigning king of Civ3 scenarios
:king:

Gattamelata,

Thank you.

Yes, a report on Soviet would be interesting.

Rocoteh

I will get started right away as the Soviets. I'm looking forward to it!

Also, congratulations on two years of WWII-Global! It is an amazing piece of work.

I will soon give my final report for ver2.3 as I am now in the process along with my allies in conquering the remaining Japanese Empire and Manchuria.

I will then commence USA 2.4 Sid and see the difference the changes have made while I still execute my same strategy (Infrastructure and Lend-Lease to enable a larger French and British military to fight the Axis). This has been a remarkable experience. Thank You for all of your effort in moderating this Scenario. If you have any suggestions or would like to see another strategy for play, do not hesitate to let me know.

Happy Birthday WW2 Global you are my #1 favorite scenario. and grats Rocoteh for a superb scenario and your continued effort to make it better.:goodjob: I will start a 2.4 game as Japan and will give a update soon.

I am very glad to hear that.

Looking forward to read more reports and comments from you.
I really appreciate them.

These impressive improvements should make for an interesting experience, particularly in the Pacific. As others have said, this makes a great Christmas gift!

The prevention of an early Barbarossa in reverse is very good, and allows smooth simulation of the time lapse involved.

I shall have to sortie the Royal Navy Home Fleet once again, and let you know how it goes.

Congrats on 2 years of providing gaming enjoyment! :goodjob:

On my v2.3 Germany game -- sorry I haven't been posting for awhile. Things have been busy but I've continued to play. Currently the game is in Mid 1941. Germany controls half of Russia (past Moscow), Poland, Yugoslavia, Greece, Denmark, Norway, Sweden, Spain, Gibraltar, the lower half of the British Isles, and all of North Africa. I was pushing into Syria and south thru the Nile valley, south into Persia and India, and conquering the British Isles. But I think I'll hang up that game and move to this new version as Germany once again.

Thanks again for the awesome game.

Merry Christmas all! :xmascheers:

I just tried to download this. It said there was an errror on the Japanese infantry. what should i do? (oh yeah, and i'm very much new to downloading stuff, so a lot of advice will be good.) thanks

WWII-Global, Emperor difficulty, Soviet Union.
House rules: I use ground artillery only against Fortress units, as otherwise it is an overwhelming advantage to me.

Week 36, 1939:

Word has reached the Premier that his third Five-Year Plan, begun in 1938, will not meet its objectives at current rates of progress. In order to force productive industrialization, every major city in the motherland will produce large work crews, called "homeland engineer corps" (Workers). These crews will be dedicated to industrializing the areas around them and linking european Russia with Asian Russia by rail. (All cities ordered to produce two Workers.)

In accordance with the Molotov-Ribbentrop Pact, the Soviet Union declares war on Poland. Soviet bombers begin to pound the Polish army. Amazingly, the western powers declare war on the Soviet Union, despite ignoring Germany's annexation of the Sudetenland and Czechoslovakia. The Russian people will not forget this insult. The resource-rich Persia/Afghanistan looks like it will be sufficient compensation. But one thing at a time.

The Red Army approaches Poland like a pitchfork: the southern point, which is positioned southeast of Radom, consists of 10 Soviet Tank Divisions, 4 Russian Infantry divisions, two Motor Rifle divisions, and four Cavalry divisions. The middle point, northeast of Radom and Southeast of Warsaw, is composed of 3 Soviet Tank Divisions, 10 Russian Infantry divisions, 4 Motor Rifle divisions and 1 Cavalry division. The northern point, northeast of Warsaw, is made up of five Russian Infantry divisions.

Reserves include three Motor Rifle divisions and numerous Russian Infantry divisions marching to reinforce the invasion groups.

It would have been preferable to concentrate the forces into only two points, and to distribute armor and infantry more evenly, but the readiness of the Red Army is not sufficient to such planning. A rail network and a more effective distribution of troops is necessary in the future.

4 polish infantry divisions cross the Russian border and assault a reserve Russian Infantry division north of our northern invasion group. The glorious Red Army heroes destroy three of the Polish invaders but are wiped out by the fourth. This fourth group is however destroyed by our mighty fascist allies. Four polish Infantry divisions assault our southern invasion group but are all destroyed. Two Russian Infantry divisions and both of the Motor Rifle divisions suffer significant losses.

11 Polish Infantry divisions cross the border near Brest-Litovsk, and another four are marching toward the same border with 9 Polish Cavalry divisions. Fortunately the Red Army bombers arrive in Brest-Litovsk, Minsk and Vilnius, and are prepared to defend the motherland from these Poles if we cannot force a surrender in the weeks to come.

The Germans bomb Warsaw heavily, but not enough to leave it vulnerable to a fast strike from the mobile units in the middle invasion group. They take Danzig.

Week 37, 1939:

The Red Army bombers fly over Radom, with discouraging results. Our fascist allies wiped out the entire Polish fleet with only a few sorties. The Red Army must have better air support.

The southern invasion group advances on Radom and takes it successfully, with the loss of only one Soviet Tank Division. Three other Soviet Tank Divisions are injured. The damaged Motor Rifle divisions and Infantry divisions fortify Radom, while infantry reserves move to protect our three damaged Soviet Tank Divisions. The remaining six Soviet Tank Divisions and three Cavalry divisions move north to merge with the other two invasion groups in the forested area just east of Warsaw. This vantage provides us with protection and turns the Vistula from a disadvantage into a defensive screen for our invasion force.

The Polish invasion force, suddenly finding itself deep in Soviet territory with the fall of Radom, turns away from Brest-Litovsk and assaults our troops on the road to Radom. They destroy three Russian Infantry divisions which were on the road to Radom, at the cost of four Polish Infantry divisions and two Polish Cavalry divisions. They move their forces to claim this road, cutting Radom off from reinforcements. A Polish Cavalry division assaults a very weak German Infantry division and destroys it. One Polish Infantry division assaults Radom and destroys one of our Motor Rifle divisions. One Polish Infantry division from Warsaw assaults our invasion force but is easily repelled.

The Germans bomb Warsaw half-heartedly. Their Luftwaffe also bombs the Polish army in the field around Radom. Most impressive were their "dive" bombers, which utterly routed many wounded Polish divisions. The Germans were able to employ devastating force without even an army in the field! Soviet Russia must have a response to these "dive" bombers! The Germans also attacked Warsaw. They were repelled, but Warsaw's defenses are weak. The Red Army must take Warsaw next week - it will certainly fall to the formidable German army if we don't.

Week 38, 1939:

The Red Army takes Warsaw with no losses at the divisional level, and Poland surrenders to the Red Army and the Wehrmacht. Approximately 75% of the Red Army bombers have been sent to Baku, where they will begin reconnaissance and strategic bombing in preparation for the impending offensive against Teheran. All Red Army divisions aside from those strictly necessary for border defense are sent to Baku. Depleted divisions will stop in Kharkov for repair and reconstitution. The Red Army will push as far into Persia as resources allow before we give the "Allies" peace.

Domestically, many cities have finished assembling their homeland engineer corps and have turned to producing infrastructure. The creation of so many engineer corps so quickly has resulted in a considerable population depression. Some ministers are alarmed about the corresponding decrease in tax revenue and research progress. The most prominent objector has been found guilty of treason and shot.

Cities that have completed their engineer corps are now turning to infrastructure, principally building that will enable them to replenish their population. Priority has been given to Temples, Cathedrals and Colosseums, with Harbors, Granaries, Aqueducts and Hospitals a close second. Once the population support has been built, the industrialization phase will begin: Factories, Coal Plants, Hydro Plants, Offshore Platforms and Manufacturing Plants. Then revenue and research projects.

This will mean that the Red Army will have to make due with the divisions it has available currently. It will be a stretch, but added industrial capacity will in time prove to be the Red Army's greatest asset.

Week 39, 1939:

A quiet week as the Red Army continues moving to the Caucasus in preparation for our assault on Persia.

Domestically, tax revenues continue to shrink as funds are diverted for the support of the many new Temples, Cathedrals and Colosseums that are being built.

Week 40, 1939:

Another quiet week. The Red Army troops amass on the border with Persia: 6 Russian Infantry divisions are ready to cross, with many more on the way. Aerial surveillance indicates that Persia will put up little resistance.

Week 41, 1939:

In two weeks the Red Army will roll into Persia. Two Candaian light cruisers appear off the shore of Petropavlovsk and begin bombardment of the city.

Week 42, 1939:

The final week of staging the Persian invasion. An American destroyer fleet arrives near Vanino. Our submarine force sinks what it can before retiring to Vanino port.

Week 43, 1939:

The invasion begins. 12 Soviet Tank Divisions, 7 Motor Rifle divisions, and 5 Cavalry divisions sit at Teheran's gates. 13 Russian Infantry divisions are marching to Teheran, and 26 more are marching down the foothills of the Caucasus along with 3 more Tank Divisions and 2 more Motor Rifle divisions. The Baku homeland engineer corps are busily building a road to Teheran.

Week 44, 1939:

The Soviet bombers smash the two Persian Infantry divisions guarding Teheran, and Soviet Tank divisions easily crush the resistance. Teheran is ours. The motorized column pauses in Teheran to allow the infantry to catch up - Soviet generals are wary of being cut off by a British flanking maneuver from Egypt.

(Note: Teheran had only two defenders! If that's the order of Persia's defenses, all of Persia and Afghanistan will be Soviet very soon.)

Week 45, 1939:

Soviet mechanized troops arrive in the hills northwest of Esfahan, while the infantry arrives in Teheran. Soviet generals resolve to drive directly south from Teheran with an eye toward accomplishing two goals: 1) securing a warm-water port on the Indian Ocean (Khorramshahr), and 2) severing British Africa from British Asia.

Week 46, 1939:

Esfahan is ours. The Red Army's armored column enters the Zagros Mountains on the way to Ahvaz - estimated time to contact is two weeks. Soviet generals plan to detach infantry divisions from the reinforcement column and send them east to take the eastern Persian and Afghan cities. Estimated strength necessary to take each city: six infantry divisions apiece.

Week 47, 1939:

Our armored column moves to just outside of Ahvaz, and our bombers sit in Esfahan, fueled, loaded and prepared to fly. Two assault groups of infantry move east from Esfahan, one headed for Mashhad, and another for Kabul.

A Persian Infantry division moves to the border between Krasnovodsk and Samarkand. Another approaches Ahvaz from the east. Aerial reconnaissance detects a British Cruiser Mk I division and a British Infantry division moving east to reinforce Khorramshahr. The French and the Dutch send emissaries. They are inadequately humble and are turned away.

Week 48, 1939:

Domestic crisis! Advisors report that, at the current rate of expenses, Soviet Russia will be bankrupt within three weeks, which will require the selling of industrial improvements in order to satisfy creditors. This is unacceptable. In an attempt to prolong the current rate of research, we sell oil to Finland, rubber to Italy, and Horses to Japan. This reduces our weekly deficit from 154 to 77, and increases the treasury from 453 to 665. However, it is clear that we need more luxuries to trade - it would have been far preferable to sell gems, gold and spices to these nations than military resources.

New decree: each city, upon becoming fully industrialized, will produce another two homeland engineer corps. Soviet Russia must have more raw materials.

The Red Army armored column easily destroys the single Persian Infantry division garrisoning Ahvaz, and the city is ours. The Persian Infantry division to the east of Ahvaz is bombed and then destroyed by a Russian Infantry division.

The British Cruiser division in the western foothills of the Zagros Mountains is now within easy striking distance of our Persian army. We lose four Russian Infantry divisions assaulting it, but we wipe it out. The Red Army mobile column is now within striking distance of Khorramshahr.

The Persian Infantry near Samarkand assaults the Soviet Garrison stationed in the hills. It is easily destroyed, and the Soviet Garrison has been promoted for courage and skill in battle.

Week 49, 1939:

The Baku-Teheran Road is now complete. Now Soviet Persia will know the wonders of Russian furs, silks, gold and wines. And soon all of Russia will inhale the sweet aroma of Persian incense.

Furthermore, we have agreed to sell Oil to Brazil for 51 per week. This will guarantee that we can maintain our current research progress.

The Red Army takes Khorramshahr! Our dream of a warm-water port has been realized! Next our armored columns will turn west to asault Kuweit and Baghdad.

A British Infantry division from Egypt attacks the Red Army outside of Khorramshahr and destroyes one Russian Infantry division. Two Chinese Infantry divisions cross the border near Alma-Ata, which is ungarrisoned.

Week 50, 1939:

Moscow has completely industrialized and is now producing homeland engineering corps, which will be sent to build a road network in Soviet Persia.

Our East Persian forces take Mashhad with no divisional losses. The Persians lost their single Infantry division. Our forces counterattack and destroy the British Infantry division that attacked near Khorramshahr.

Soviet bombers pound Kuweit, and discover that, in addition to its Special Fortress division, it contains three British Militia divisions, two of which are dug in. Taking the British Middle East may not be as easy as taking Persia.

[NOTE: One big disadvantage to the AI is that it seems incapable of fortifying 0-movement units like Fortresses, Special Fortresses and Garrisons. Is there a way to fix this?]

The Red Army takes Kuweit, at the loss of one Soviet Tank Division. We prepare to strike Baghdad next week.

The British fly two bomber sorties over Ahvaz, and a British Tank Brigade assaults Kuweit before retreating with heavy losses. The British light cruisers that had been bombarding Petropavlovsk have steamed south and west, perhaps to attack Japanese shipping. If they approach Vanino our Pacific sub fleet will sink them.

Week 51, 1939:

The Red Army bombers proceed to bomb Baghdad. En route they detect 6-8 squadrons of various aircraft in the airfields outside Baghdad, a mixture of fighters and bombers. The Soviet bombers attempt to eliminate the enemy aircraft on the runways, but are unable to inflict decisive losses. These aircraft cannot be allowed to fly, so the Red Army makes a valiant assault on Baghdad without the benefit of air support. Elite Soviet Tank divisions harrass the defenders while veteran tank divisions move in for decisive engagements. The Red Army takes Baghdad at the loss of two Soviet Tank Divisions, while destroying one Special Fortress division and two British Militia divisions. To our great dismay, the British pilots destroy their aircraft before the Red Army can capture them.

Five Russian Infantry divisions depart Mashhad toward Kabul, leaving one behind as a garrison.

Two more British bombing attacks over Ahvaz. They must be based in Kirkuk.

Week 52, 1939:

Moscow completes its homeland engineering corps and turns to the production of Soviet Tank Divisions.

The Red Army armored column heads north from Baghdad and comes to rest in the forest southeast of Kirkuk. Infantry is on the road to the south of them marching at full speed. Our bombers relocate to Esfahan for a better vanage against Kirkuk and as a defensive measure against possible long-range bombing from Jerusalem.

The Chinese units menacing Alma-Ata have turned aside upon the arrival of garrison forces from Samarkand. They continue to march to the Russian interior.

The British bombers attack the forces menacing Kirkuk, with no significant results.

Week 1, 1940:

There is no RAF presence in Kirkuk to distract the Soviet bombers. The Red Army defeats Kirkuk's battered defenders with no losses.

Teheran is dedicated to the production of homeland engineering corps.

A British Gurkha Infantry division appears between Kabul and Kandahar, headed for Mashhad. A British Infantry division arrives to reinforce Damascus.

Week 2, 1940:

The Red Army air forces bomb Damascus's defensive radar installation into oblivion and damage its defenders. The Red Army mechanized column crushes the British reinforcements and captures Damascus with no losses.

The East Persian army column takes Kandahar, but with heavy losses. We had not expected a Special Fortress division to be defending the hilly city. Four Russian Infantry divisions were lost defeating the single Special Fortress division.

Taking Kandahar reveals twelve British Indian Infantry divisions in the mountains near Kabul. It will be difficult to take Kabul as it is - we have only six Russian Infantry divisions, and Kabul is defended the same way as Kandahar. Holding Kabul against twelve infantry divisions will be nearly impossible, even if we do take Kabul. Our plan is to take Chah Bahar next week, attempt to take Kabul, and sue for peace. This will leave us without Jerusalem and probably without Kabul, but the majority of the Middle East will be Soviet.

31 Chinese Infantry divisions appear out of Communist Chinese territory, headed toward Tashkent.

Week 3, 1940:

Kabul has not one, but two Special Fortress divisions defending it. Once that becomes clear, we call off the attack on Kabul at the loss of only three Russian Infantry divisions. We contact Great Britain to treat for peace, but they demand 100 gold. France, too, holds out for some kind of compensation. They do not seem to remember that they declared war on us. So we discussed terms with Persia. Reza Pahlavi was more than happy to accept peace.

Now we can regroup our army, establish more robust garrisons, and begin a campaign of domestic improvement. We will trade with the Western powers, and we will begin to turn our engineering corps to building a rail network along two major axes. The first axis is from Moscow to Khorramshahr, and the second is from Stalingrad to Vladivostok.

Week 47 1939 2.4 Demigod the war in the Pacific begins in earnest US Carriers and destroyers and heavy cruisers spotted east of Kwajalein after bombing Kwajalein for about 3 weeks now Japans naval forces must stop this bombardment of Kwajalein as soon as possible. luckily or tactical genious im not sure which we have 5 submarines stationed there the naval commander orders them to seek and destroy this threat because our troops are very thin on the island. we have only 1 fortress division stationed here.the submarine units do there job and sink 3 US destroyers and is happy to report the sinking of the Carrier Saratoga only 1 submarine returns the CV Yorktown escapes but not without being damaged and forced to retreat which was desperately needed to buy our homeland time to send ground forces to help defend Kwajalein,Saipan and Truk which will be difficult at best.the US naval fleet is very heavy near Saipan, Okinawa, and Truk and inteligence reports more is on the way and there is BB battleships heading toward the mainland along with multiple heavy cruisers and destroyers and multiple submarines sneaking around the coastline so they think:lol: . we sank BB Maryland and the Mississippi and we lost 1 Battleship and 1 Destroyer week 48 We send 3 transports full capacity with infantry and flak units escorted by Japans finest to Saipan, Truk and Kwajalein as its vital Japan holds these positions for our war in the Pacific is critical and must not fail at any cost.On the homefront China is attacking Canton with infantry units but to no evail. Week 49 with the help of 4 Sally bombers we was able to sink the allready injured US New York and Maryland near Saipan and 3 more destroyers and 1 heavy cruiser.West of Truk Britains BB Canberra and 3 destoyers and 1 Transport heads toward Truk and makes a amphibous attack that fails barely. the BB Canberra is sunk along with 1 destroyer the rest of there fleet evaded there death temporarily.Reinforcements hopefully will arrive soon headquarters has been notified of our dire situation and assured us help was on the way.Headquarters has issued orders to hold Saipan,Truk and Kwajalein successfully or face a firing squad General Suzuki' should you be unlucky enough to survive if you dont succeed you will be fed a steady diet of bullets between your eyes. do you understand General.

Simon Darkshade,

Yes I really hope there will be no more early attacks
from Soviet-AI.

Looking forward to read more comments from you on the new
version.

WVCivnut,

Thank you!

Sounds like a good start for your playtest.
It will be interesting to hear what you think about the changes in
2.4 if you choose to start a new playtest.

Merry Christmas

I just tried to download this. It said there was an errror on the Japanese infantry. what should i do? (oh yeah, and i'm very much new to downloading stuff, so a lot of advice will be good.) thanks

502nd PIR,

Probably you have placed the downloaded files in the scenario-folder
of Civ instead of the scenario-folder of Conquests.
This is a very common mistake.

This is from Post 2:

"1. Choose the "huge" download, 134 MB.

2. Right click on it.

3. Choose Explore.

4. Now you will see the WW2-Global folder. Choose copy.

5. Locate the Scenarios-folder in Conquests. Choose it and then
choose paste. It will take some time since it is 134 MB.

6. Repeat the above procedure with the biq-file (the small download)."

Rocoteh

Gattamelata,

Thank you for the report.

On the operations in Poland:

No doubt will an early aggressive Soviet strategy pay off!

The cost is then of course war with France and Britain.
However it seems that you so far only have marginal problems with them.

If I make a special-AI version next year for human Soviet versus AI,
it possible I will include some house-rules to make early expansion harder.

"Cities that have completed their engineer corps are now turning to infrastructure, principally building that will enable them to replenish their population. Then revenue and research projects."
Gattamelata

This should be a very good initial Soviet strategy.

On your offensive in the South:

This offensive seems to be effective!
Early in the scenario its hard for Britain to respond.
Its huge areas and the British ground forces are limited in numbers.

"Kabul has not one, but two Special Fortress divisions defending it. Reza Pahlavi was more than happy to accept peace."
Gattamelata

You have managed to achieve really good results in the South.

"Now we can regroup our army, establish more robust garrisons, and begin a campaign of domestic improvement. We will trade with the Western powers, and we will begin to turn our engineering corps to building a rail network along two major axes. The first axis is from Moscow to Khorramshahr, and the second is from Stalingrad to Vladivostok"
Gattamelata

Probably its best to establish peace with the West now.

Looking forward to follow this playtest.

Thank you and welcome back.

dferrill,

Thank you for the report.

"Week 47 1939 2.4 Demigod the war in the Pacific begins in earnest US Carriers and destroyers and heavy cruisers spotted east of Kwajalein after bombing Kwajalein for about 3 weeks now Japans naval forces must stop this bombardment of Kwajalein as soon as possible. luckily or tactical genious im not sure which we have 5 submarines stationed there the naval commander orders them to seek and destroy this threat because our troops are very thin on the island. we have only 1 fortress division stationed here.the submarine units do there job and sink 3 US destroyers and is happy to report the sinking of the Carrier Saratoga only 1 submarine returns the CV Yorktown escapes but not without being damaged and forced to retreat which was desperately needed to buy our homeland time to send ground forces to help defend Kwajalein,Saipan and Truk which will be difficult at best."
dferrill

Playing as Japan is really hard. It seems to be much more difficult then
Germany, Britain, Soviet and US.

"Week 49 with the help of 4 Sally bombers we was able to sink the allready injured US New York and Maryland near Saipan and 3 more destroyers and 1 heavy cruiser.West of Truk Britains BB Canberra and 3 destoyers and 1 Transport heads toward Truk and makes a amphibous attack that fails barely. the BB Canberra is sunk along with 1 destroyer the rest of there fleet evaded there death temporarily.Reinforcements hopefully will arrive soon headquarters has been notified of our dire situation and assured us help was on the way."
dferrill

Active play from AI. That is positive.

Its possible I will make a special human Japan versus AI version
also. Probably it will include several levels of victory.

An interesting playtest.
Thank you and welcome back.

Rocoteh

It will be interesting to see how Japan AI does in other play tests.your right Japan has it rough at first compared to the other major powers but by 1941 they picked up steam in the last version and was doing very well.I like the challenge you have to be tactical and have a good strategy to overcome the difficultys in the begining.keeping your naval fleet intact and not dukeing it out with the US in the beginning is key for me.
