WW2-Global

I'm finally getting around to playing this scenario, but I can't find the saved game files. Have they been removed? I'd rather not wait for hours to load it if I can avoid it.

Weasel Op,

WW2-Globa is not a slow scenario anymore.

Since version 2.0 load-time is 5 minutes with 512 MB RAM and 3 GHz.
Waiting-time between turns have also been heavily reduced.
Because of that no one wants to download saved games and they
were removed.

Hi!

First thanks Rocoteh, and everyone else, for what looks like an awesome mod.

Second I cant get it to work. :( Everything was done as written on page one of this thread. I can chose my oppressor, difficulty level etc, but when it gets to the screen when normally you'd expect the map to appear and all the glory of the world unfold, nothing happens. I can see the frames for everything, map, advisor buttons, and the text telling me I'm British in wk 36, 1939 etc. Everything else is black. a little load bar is there saying 'Creating Scenario...' but it never gets there.

Help!

Zedi

P.S. sorry if this has been answered before but 216 pages of trawling at this time of night?!

Zedi,

Its working.
You just have to wait 5 minutes.
That is: If your computer has 512 MB RAM and 3.0 Ghz.
If its slower it will take some minutes more.

Aloha,

Every time I finally make some serious inroads on the North American continent Rocoteh comes up with a new version and I have to start over :D "Recommencing countdown 1000, 999, 998"

This scenario successfully keeps me away from Civ4, I wonder why  It must be the addictiveness of your work Rocoteh - thank you!

Is anyone using the Me 410? If so I would love to find out how to deploy them in a meaningful manner, the 410 is so beautiful :goodjob:

May the almond be with y'all

Loki

Baldurslayer,

Thank you.

Some years ago when I and Procifica worked with the ACW-scenario
there were discussions whether there were to many versions
of it or not.
I still think the many versions kept ACW dynamic and that the same
holds true for WW2-Global.
However it has slowed down:
2.0 was released in August and 2.1 in December.
2.3 will be in September.
If I release my new scenario Europe in Flames late fall
there will be more time between new versions of WW2-Global.

imgrumpy,

Thank you for the report.

"Suggestion for version 2.3

Rocoteh, please add a barbed-wire graphic instead of the pointless garrison units to stop the ROP issue. That way you can use it more frequently without taking away from the beauty of the landscape. Too bad the civ3 game engine doesn't have the ability to build these like radar towers or forts."
imgrumpy

OK, notes have been taken.

"Oh, and will we see some improved leader graphics?"
imgrumpy

It will come with the next graphic update.
No target-date for that yet.

"I would love to help you out with anything to keep this scenerio going."
imgrumpy

Thank you.
I will have that in mind.

German 2.2

"Week 6, 1940
Cities taken: Moscow, Sevestopol, Murmansk, Gorki
Sweden won't grant me a ROP and demends I remove my mines. So war it is. Finland signs a peace treaty with Russia behind my back. Let's see how they do with Sweden. I redeclared war on Russia and took Moscow, Sevestopol, Murmansk, and Gorki immediately. Russia is down to only 7 tanks and 3 moterized inf. British BB Barham sunk by my last 5 U-boats, only 1 returns. I am sending half the Kreigsmarine to Sweden to teach them who rules the Baltic."
imgrumpy

Sweden has a rather strong navy.

"Week 7
Cities taken: Jaroslavl, Brussels, Rotterdam, Antwerp
We will now drive north from Moscow and take all Russian cities west of the Urals. I've built up a significant enough force in Düsseldorf for our invasion of the West to begin. Brussels, Rotterdam, and Antwerp fall easily to my panzer divisions. I quickly install German 88s to defend these cities from counter-attack."
imgrumpy

A very good move!

"Week 8
Cities taken: Amsterdam, Odessa
Russia declares war on Norway…probably the sub bug. Admiral Sheer sinks BB Warspite off Bremen after some U-boat softening. The lask pocket of Russian resistence at Odessa falls, now we will drive to Stalingrad and then south to Baku. That will satisfy my security concerns and ensure Russia will never be a major power and we can have peace. Amsterdam falls, all the lowlands are secure except Namur which I am using as a shield against French counter-attacks. Bismarck class Tirpitz launched."
imgrumpy

In version 2.3 I will remove the subs Norway have and replace
them with Light Coastal Flotilla units.
This way the sub-bug should disappear.

"Week 9
Cities taken: Perm, Kotlas, Namur
The Weirmarcht is steadily driving north, taking Perm and Kotlas. I am ready to sweep into France, taking Namur as my staging point."
imgrumpy

Russia probably finished de facto.

"Week10
Cities taken: Malmö
Amphbious landing takes Malmö after naval bombardment. The French army proceeds to break itself on my German 88s at Namur."
imgrumpy

France seems unable to deliver a serious counterstrike.

Thank you and welcome back.

Impressive Looking Scenario - Can't wait to play it!

Having some problems getting it to run.
Keep getting: Missing entry in "text\PediaIcons.txt": ANIMNAME_PRTO_China
then when I make a copy in the text file for China,
the next one is _Gato,
_LightCruiser,
_Fortress,
_Italian_Infantry,
_Russian_Infantry

I must be doing something wrong. There aren't this many missing entry right?
Any help you can give would be appreciated. Thanks

Weasel Op,

El Justo found the "trade-breakthrough" when he worked
with TCW and then I used it for WW2-Global. (Version 2.0 and onwards)

Its a very important breakthrough since it make huge-map
scenarios playable also.

Welcome back with more comments.

Roger Houston,

There are no missing entry.

Probably (95%) you have placed the downloaded files
in the scenario-folder of Civ 3 instead of the scenario-folder of Conquest.
This is a very common mistake.

Rocoteh

Thanks. I went through all the errors and found that none were missing. So have been stumped what to do. I'm sure your right about the wrong folder.
I'm using Civ3 Complete.
In the main folder there are folders for civ3PTW and Conquests.
I've copied to c:/Civilization III Complete/Conquests/Conquests
and the .biq to .../Conquests/Scenarios
Is that correct?
Thanks for your help.

No, the folder has to be in the same directory as the biq (unless you change the search path). Everything goes in C:\Civilization III Complete\Conquests\Scenarios.

Weasel Op - Thank You, Thank You, Thank You!! It's working now.:goodjob:

THIS IS AWESOME! I CAN'T IMAGINE HOW MUCH TIME AND EFFORT THIS MUST HAVE REQUIRED!

ROCOTEH:king: - YOU ROCK!!

I will check in and let you know how it goes.

Charge!!

Bah! They beat me to it! RogerHouston: I had exactly the same problem this time around, since I had had to reinstall all of Civ3 since the last version due to other issues. I had forgotten to put the WW2Global folder in Civ/Conquests/scenarios altogether. The fact that you get a different error message every time was throwing me for loops.

France 2.2, Sid, Week 10,1940- France is Axis free!!! ...they decided to go play with Russia instead. Yay for me! No cities have changed hands yet, but I see Germany is down to 31 PzIIIe now. The Soviets do bleed them nicely, and I nipped a few of their heels as they were leaving myself. Also, we took Palermo! I'm going to try and work my way up the soft underbelly. Minimal forces involved, since I don't have much to spare. I'm going to use the breathing space Germany has gracefully given me to try to finish up a few hydro plants as well as build up forces in France proper.

Japan has added 9 Yamatos, but I may have over looked those the last time. That's OK, the UK is up to 43 KGVs. Sadly, I've yet to build a single naval vessel of my own this game, it's been way too tight to spare the production. Also, my naval squadron of a BC,2 CL, And 5 DD is finally approaching India, with the subs trailing far behind, off the S.African cape. That has been one loooong trip, but I will have my naval squadron in the Pacific.

Oh, and the German paratroops at Corsica were defeated by our rushed in reinforcements, Huzzah!:)

The Italian G-50 Freccia civilopedia link still doesn't work.

I'm still playing Germany 2.1 and I'm in the end of 1940. I'm trying to keep it as historic as possible but its getting difficult. I am currently at war with Sweden, just captured Malmo and they will be out of the game within 5 turns. I'm going to give Sundsvall and everything north of that to Finland.

Currently I am at peace with Norway but, they only have Narvik left. I have there southern cities and Finland captured Hammerfest in our previous war in early 1940.

In the Med I took Corsica from the French in mid-1940 and just captured Cagliari from the Brits who took that city in early 1940. That is going to be my staging point for the Invasion of North Africa.

Right now I have complete control of the North Atlantic and am sending some ships and u-boats down south. I have on u-boat operating off the west African coast and spotted a convoy of a Battleship, transport and a few DD's. I have been shadowing it for a while, it has been going north than south and back again with no apparent destination. Then I spotted to Japanese Heavy Cruisers coming up from the south. I think thats why the convoy went north for the 3rd time.

And I think I might scrap this game to start version 2.2 as Italy or Finland.

where is the file is it the one t the begining of the thread??

Soviet Russia Emperor 2.2

Hello Rocoteh I am back. Decided to play right away as Soviet Russia as most go for Germany. Also, as has been my past practice I will test first at Emperor level before going up.

I also would point out to all our new friends the first line of my post. With all the versions going around it really helps to note 2.1 or 2.2 in your posts. Also, it is helpful to mention the level so we can all understand the basis of your experiences.

That said -

Strategy - Soviet Russia lacks infrastructure and useful units at the beginning. Its major asset is that it is the only major power not in a locked war and with no allies to pull it in to war. Accordingly Soviet Russia has a "timing" advantage. The obvious strategy is to avoid any early wars and build infrastructure. A more risky version is to avoid any significant unit build until cities are fully built out. I will use a modified high risk strategy i.e. low unit build except for workers.

Our major challenge is that rockets are no longer fatal to our targets. Given our relatively weak air power (even in the future) we must rely on armor, armor and more armor.

While Germany is of course the short term risk the longer term risk is Great Britain. Assuming Germany can be held back via diplomacy (and keeping units near the front) major thrusts should be made to split the Asian allied front to the point of relief for Japan. From there rotating wars against the Axis and the Allies will be increasingly longer until the Euro Asian landmass is ours.

1939 Report

1939 ended with no military action - a success. Workers are everywhere mining, roading and in some cases beginning the long railroad which will be indispensable in future wars. Technology is very slow and we are still not in a postition to take on a major power. Only Moscow has been fully built out and it has been assigned to generate flak units as our only effective weapon against eventual German luftwaffe attacks. Hopefully we can hold off any action until mid 1940.

Germany quickly eliminated Poland in week 37. In week 38 Germany declared war on Norway which was ended in week 52. Norway retains all starting position cities so I expect it was a sub bug war.

Germany has taken the low countries plus Lille, Verdun, Strasbourg and Lyon. One city has been razed (west of Marseilles and SE of Bordeaux). Scandanavia and all other neutrals remain in starting positions.

All civs remain in starting positions in Africa so the Italians are holding out so far.

Japan has taken Yenan in the north and Canton in the Sourth (although China has Amoy). Japan has Manila but the US holds out in Davao.

Rocoteh - I have looked in the editor and saw no changes to the power situation. I presume you have not changed any of the multiples.

Rocoteh,

I was just reading an article in the paper about Nokia. It stated that before cell phones became Finland's biggest export, timber and rubber dominated trade. I wonder if you should add rubber to Finland.

Just a thought.

Rocoteh,

I was poking around in the editor and noticed that the KGV does not have lethal sea bombardment. Also the Iowa class has lethal land bombardment. Are these errors?

Week 24:
Turkey is history as all cities are now mine. Also Nordvik is mine.
I sunk a US BB C2 off Nova Scotia for the loss of 5 Uboats.
New CV ready: Potsdam.

PC turn:
A US BB C2 appeared off Agadir.
New technology: Sea 1941 I
New BB: Leuthen.

This is highly confusing. The ready made Conquests scenarios have the big folder in the "Conquests" directory, and the .biq files are present in both the "Conquests" and "Scenarios" directory.

Rocoteh,

I politely suggest that you post an explanation of how to install the scenario on page 1. Not everyone here is tech savvy. Thanks.
