WW2-Global

tom2050,

"Week 12, 1941 - Took Katmandu (Great Britain-India). Strange, Katmandu showed an airport icon when the city was under British control, but no longer does after I took it. So it is not allowing for any air trade. I feel like I just got ripped off or something! Took Colombo (Great Britain-India). Great Britain made a Cromwell Tank in Katmandu before I took it, which means they have Sea 1943!"
tom2050

The Katmandu wonder allows air trade.
However since the wonder requires democracy it will not be shown if Japan
controls Katmandu.

"Week 13, 1941 - US and Brazil sign a peace treaty. Took Bombay (Great Britain-India).
Week 14, 1941 - Soviet Russia takes Kandahar (Persia).
Week 15, 1941 - Signed peace treaty with Spain. Took Lhasa (China). Took Jaipur (Great Britain-India).
Week 16, 1941 - Took Mangnai (China).
Week 18, 1941 - Germany declares war on Soviet Russia. Mutual Protection Pact requires I, Finland, and Italy declare war on Soviet Russia. Soviet Russia and China sign a peace treaty. Great Britain, France, US, Persia, and Belgium sign peace treaty with Soviet Russia. Took Karachi (Great Britain-India). Germany takes Minsk (Soviet Russia). What in the world??? Germany takes Voronezh (Soviet Russia), which is way deep behind the front lines. Germany must of had a bunch of units just sitting back there when they declared war."
tom2050

Still its a surprise.

"There is a massive amount of British ships and transports heading over to India. Total, I count 8 King George Vs, 1 Lion Class, Repulse Battlecruiser, 1 Battleship, 5 transports, and destroyers in 4 seperate groups. Another 2 King George, 1 Lion Class, and a Convoy have been spotted on the western side of southern Africa. I have 2 Yamatos, 2 Battleships, and several Heavy Cruisers, with many more Yamatos on the way, but will have to rely on my bombers in India to damage these ships and then sink them with the large amount of Otsu subs I have in the area. British battleship Ramillies sank."
tom2050

Its positive that Britain AI can manage such operations.

"Week 20, 1941 - Great Britain declares war on Soviet Russia. China, France, US, Persia, and Belgium declare war on Soviet Russia. Took Lahore (Great Britain-India). Took Khotan (China). ***China Defeated***. Took Rawalpindi (Great Britain-India). British India has almost been fully conquered, I will reassess my situation as to where to proceed from here.
Week 21, 1941 - This is good! Germany is taking ground. Germany takes Brest-Litovsk (Soviet Russia). Looks like the tides have turned. Soviet Russia has taken half of Persia and most of Turkey. I am going to take the Persian coastal cities for a way through to Africa. From there I will start hitting the coastal cities of the Mediterranean, so enemy ships have no where to hide. I am building the hidden palace in India, so the production there should not suffer from too much corruption. I will build up the coastal cities as quickly as possible for naval production. If I can take Suez, I can start sending ships through to help my Axis allies. There is no possible way for me to invade US, Japan is finally about as big as the US, my units are inferior and I dont have enough units to take on such an extensive undertaking. When 1942 nears, I will start rethinking. I will take Alaska, and try working my way down into Canada, but we'll see. My military strength is now registered as average to Germany, Soviet Russia, and Great Britain. Still weak vs US."
tom2050

Agree.
It should not be a good idea to invade the US West Coast.
I doubt its possible to defeat US when one play as Japan on this high level.

Impressing US and Soviet forces.
Still very few naval units built by AI.

Thank you for the report and welcome back.

I have a couple things that might be of interest on the razing situation... I went back through my descriptions quickly and made a list of what cities were razed in my games.

I am assuming the French cities of Bordeaux and Toulouse use to have autoproduction of units back in previous versions, but no longer do. The Bordeaux and Toulouse Wonders still have Democracy required set in the editor... that is the probable cause of the AI razing them. If these are set to none (since it is no longer required), there is a high chance the AI may not raze these cities.

Also, in my current game as Germany, I noticed Japan did not raze the city of Dehli (which does autoproduce units), but did raze other autoproduction cities (Urumtsi, Tian Shou, Chengdu, Katmandu), and Soviet Russia razed Germany's city of Pressburg. All of these wonders are similar in that they require a specific form of government, but the 1 difference I noticed, was that Dehli had Flavors 2, 3, 4, and 7. I know flavors are there to make AI research certain techs over others, but there is a chance that this may have made the AI not raze Dehli.

Tian Shou, though, does have flavors 2, 4, and 6, and it did get razed.

The cities having palaces and intelligence agencies that got razed are Lissabon and Copenhagen. And Urumtsi and Chengdu also had palaces. I am not sure if this effects AIs decision or not. I have heard AI will raze Tokyo (probably due to autoproduction).

I can say (almost for a fact) that autoproduction of units is not the sole cause for the AI to raze a city, but probably more for the fact that a different form of government is required for the wonder. For instance, Germany AI will probably never raze Soviet city Riga (it autoproduces German units), and although I have not seen, city of Zagreb would probably not be razed either for the same reason (although Zagreb has 2 wonders, so no one would probably raze it). And due to the fact that the 2 French cities mentioned above get razed constantly (they produce no units, yet diff form govt required), this is probably what is causing it.

All of the other cities razed without wonders were Monterrey, Esfahan, Damascus, Gibraltar, Yenan, Balikpapan, Bulgan, Karachi, Srinagar, Vorkuta, and Kuala lumpur. Most of these cities had good size populations, so I don't know how the AI decides, but dont think it is an auto-raze situation. The only small cities were Vorkuta (2), Kuala lumpur (1), and Bulgan (2). A couple had 4 pop, the rest 6-18.

Perhaps in my next game, I will test some of these out by making a few changes just to see what the AI does.

With the flavors, I am not sure how adding flavors to a wonder or improvement does anything though, it doesn't say much in the editor.

USSR - SID - V2.5 - 2ND ATTEMPT!!!

After a resounding defeat at the hands of the German AI tank hordes I have taken onboard that fighting a war on 4 fronts is a little too difficult. The production bonus given to the AI on SID level and my beligerent diplomatic attitude was really what killed me rather than Russia's lack of defensive units.

Although some posters have mentioned that Russia needs a defence unit like the Panzergrenadier or Matilda if we look historically the real defensive unit of Russia was sheer weight of numbers. As has been discussed at length earlier in this forum the Russian units were poorly equipped but even early in the war vastly outnumbered the Axis. I believe that a better approach to providing the Soviet AI with defensive units is by keeping the cost of the units lower than the rest. Of course this equates to massed numbers of cheap Mot Inf and T34's but that is where their strength really lies. Not a technological behemouth that digs in and can't be budged like an 88 or StuGIII.

I learnt the hard way about the lack of defensive attributes of the Soviet units but I shall now employ a more historically correct model to this playtest. Large massed stacks of infantry will protect my border cities. Key hardened strongpoints with massed troops will also provide additional protection along the German and Balkan borders. I have placed overlapping radar towers all along the borders to provide additional strength. Research for T34 production is the main goal of tech with the air tech of Yak and Sturmovik as the next goal afterwards.

This time around the Soviets will practise appeasement and attempt to stave off any diplomatic incidents. If a foreign power demands anything then in true Ribbentrop Pact style I will grant it and look the other way. By the time the Germans storm across my borders hopefully this time I will have a massed bomber force and T34 tank columns in predetermined tank traps ready for them.
Unfortunately it will be difficult to produce enough Infantry to fully saturate all of the western Russian cities so I shall again employ the hardened shell along the border. This time I hope the AI doesn't blitzkreig with as much skill whilst the UK attacks from below and the Fins from above. At least I have learnt what NOT to do.

I updated the text file of the civilopedia to tell if aircraft can land on carriers or not, but can't remember if I gave it to Rocoteh to add to the download section.

Thank you tom2050,

I started my game before that though. Although I usually install all updates, It did not get taken over into my game. Maybe the save games determine the CIvilopedia in parts too.

You are generally and historically right. I still think they should have a later tech defender upgrade. Maybe land 1945 gives them a motorized defender like attack/defense 5/14.
If the Russians have not won within the years 1941/1942 they will be drowning in the waves of high tech armours of the Germans.

When I was playing Germany I built a row of fortresses from Königsberg down to Odessa annd put 5 infantry/security division each. That works pretty well as containment and gives you time to build up your military. Russia in this game did not declare war on me until beginnings/mid 1941.
Good luck!

Version 2.6 have been uploaded.

There are only three changes:

1. AI will again build and use worker units.

2. Its no longer possible to build railroads.

3. You can not build the railroad construction unit.

Note this is not a permanent solution. Its possible that the special
railroad tech (discussed earlier) will be introduced in version 2.7.

Rocoteh

BOOOO! No more steam rolling in europe :(

Though I must say it is more practical to have railroads disabled because honestly you can't move large divisions of tanks across the russian land in less than a week

Rocoteh, did you also include the pedia updates? If so you could maybe take down a couple of the links on the front page (leaving credits) to make things a little less confusing. :)

Tom, are still experiencing razing with the new .exe?

tom2050,

Thank you for you comments on AI and razing of cities.

I will look over this problem and see if more can be done with regard to version 2.7.

No I did not since I know that many people will think its hard
to replace files like the Civilopedia file.
Thus a new Civilopedia file will come the graphic update.

Drivebymaster,

Yes I think this will be more realistic.

Still I will probably include a special rail tech with version 2.7.
It will take 40 turns to research and will reflect
heavy investments into rolling stock.

The main problem is AI.
If both Germany and Soviet are controlled by AI Germany most of the
time will be far away from historic results.
Thus if I in anyway increase Soviet power that problem will increase further.

"I learnt the hard way about the lack of defensive attributes of the Soviet units but I shall now employ a more historically correct model to this playtest. That sounds like a good strategy.

To avoid war with Britain should be of crucial importance.

Thank you and welcome back.

Rocoteh, I have downloaded and burned to a CD the latest version of WW2-Global, in case another hacker hits.

Ver. 2.5. Republican China. AI most aggressive. Low difficulty level.

Week 24, 1942 to Week 52, 1943:

Sorry, folks, but it took me 90 hours to get this far & I chose to play rather than continue posting a detailed report.

-At Week 52, 1943, I have reunited all of China including Hainan & Taipe. I also took Okinawa. The British still hold Hong Kong & there's nothing I can do about it in a locked alliance.

-I took Sian in Week 25, 1942 after a long siege & didn't stop moving forward until I had all of China. By the time I got to Peking, the Allies had marched many units all the way from Africa & were actively attacking the Japanese on the mainland. Even the Belgians sent some Infantry. I allowed the British to take Pyongyang & Seoul while I gobbled up Manchuria & turned west to defeat the Communists Chinese.

-Pusan remained in Japanese hands at the end of 1943 despite heavy attacks for several weeks from the Allies.

-At the same time I attacked the Communists, I invaded Taipe & then Hainan. The Japanese counterattacked with Yamatos & Marines retaking both, but my Heavy Cruisers, Bombers & Subs chewed 'em up in the Formosa Straits. I retook both islands & the enemy had no chance of retaking them at the end of 1943 as I had taken Okinawa & the U.S. had razed Kagoshima.

-I never could build a Amphibious unit or I would have taken Guam & Truk which the enemy left with NO garrison... The U.S. just beat me to Manilla & took both cities on Sumatra. The British took the rest of the South Pacific.

-Japan basically collapsed after losing the mainland & their navy at the Battle of Formosa.

-I finished a Palace at Peking in Week 43, 1943, restoring the Chinese capitol!

-Europe was & is at a complete stalemate. In the Med, the U.S. continued to hold Cagliari & the British took & held Corsica. One of them took Tirana from Italy, but Germany retook it the next turn. Other than that, no gains were made by anyone in Europe throughout '41, '42 or '43.

-Having a huge army & nothing to do with it, I bought a ROP from the Soviets & marched my forces to Europe. However, I found I could not engage Germany or Finland because the Soviets had Garrison units blocking every tile on their western borders.

Having reunited China, defeated Japan & with no chance of striking the Axis in Europe, I decided to call it a "win" & quit. I thought of attacking the Soviets...I'll keep the game saved awhile in case I feel suicidal.

One bad note, NONE of the unaligned nations ever went to war. I was praying for a sub bug at the end just to get some action going.

Now for my next crazy playtest :D:

Ver. 2.5. Brazil. AI most agressive. Regent.

My goals are to unite Latin America & the mother countries of Portugal & Spain & to turn the jungles of the Amazon into an agricultural & industrial powerhouse. This will likely bring conflict with the Allies as the British hold Georgetown & the U.S. holds Panama, Havana & San Juan...

Weeks 36 to 38, 1939:

-The inland cities of Manaus, Teffe, Puerto Acre, Carajas, Goyas & Asuncion are really just jungle outposts. They have no garrison. I set the ones that can to building Workers. The ones w/ Pop. 1 start building Temples.

-My coastal cities all start building Workers. They are all garrisoned by 1 Infantry each. We have endless miles of roads to build & lots of Jungle & Forest to clear.

-My navy, sailing off the capitol of Rio de Janeiro, consists of 2 Battleships, 2 Light Cruisers, 7 WWI Destroyers & 4 Submarines. I send them to dock in Montevideo-right next to Argentina's capitol at Buenos Aires. Argentina has access to Saltpeter, Gems, Gold, Iron & Coal... I need those!

-My air force consists of 1 Fighter & 1 Bomber. They are also ordered to Montevideo.

-I only have Horses, so keeping my citizens happy is a challenge. They demand fine cigars, but we have no tobacco... The only offensive unit I can build is Cavalry & I have almost no army so it will be a long while before I am ready to fight anyone.

Week 39, 1939:

-I have a few Workers building roads on the coast. The cities are all building Temples, Cathedrals & Colosseums. My people are very unhappy. I must find them some Gold or something! I can trade with every nation except for Peru, but I have nothing of value to trade with...unless someone will buy our anacondas. At least we have Carnivale!

-Germany destroys Poland! They also take Amsterdam!

-I will have Land/Air 1940 in 36 weeks.

-Just checked & I have embassies with every nation.

Week 40, 1939:

-Absolutely nothing happens. Actually, I licked a poison dart frog on a dare. Go Brazil!!!

Complete first set of tests of WW2 Global on razing with the following changes, and there is some GOOD news!:

Toulouse and Bordeaux are NOT razed by AI (Germany) when required Government of Democracy is set to None for both wonders in the editor. This is Good News!

The city of Katmandu was NOT razed by the AI (Japan) when flavors for the wonder is set to 2,3,4, and 7.

Dehli was NOT razed as is, no changes would be required.

The city of Chengdu was NOT razed by the AI (Japan) when flavors for the wonder is changed to 2,3,4, and 7.

Pressburg, Urumtsi, and Tian Shou were still razed with the changes I tested, will do some further tests, and with more autoproduction cities, to see if I can eliminate the razing.

No I did not since I know that many people will think its hard
to replace files like the Civilopedia file.
Thus a new Civilopedia file will come the graphic update.

Rocoteh

It's not so much hard as confusing, I have a hard time keeping up with all the pedia updates, ie which version I've got and whether there's a newer one I should d'load (often one is on the wrong computer to do these things)

What happened? I checked the forums, and didn't see anything about this happening. Were any files lost or damaged from the hacker attack?

It was about a month ago, ALL files civs 3, 4 whatever, that were posted after x date in June were erased. Thankfully most have been restored and everything before that date was backed up so none were lost.

Ver. 2.5. Brazil. AI most aggressive. Regent.

Week 41, 1939:

-Recife builds a Worker & starts on a Temple.

-Montevideo builds a Colosseum & starts on another Worker.

-Fortaleza, population 5, goes into civil unrest. Damn them! I declare a banana-throwing holiday to cheer them up.

Weeks 42, 1939:

-Porto Alegre builds a Worker & starts building a Cathedral.

-Asuncion builds a Worker & starts building a Temple.

-Recife builds a Temple & starts building a Worker.

-Fortaleza builds a Worker & starts building a Temple.

-Manaus builds a Worker & starts building a Cathedral.

Anyone detecting a pattern here? The action continues!

-Great Britain demands 27 Gold from me. I give it to them because I still have several cities without any garrison.

Week 43, 1939:

-Germany demands 26 Gold from me. I tell them to go chew on some shnitzle & they declare war on me! What's wrong with shnitzle? A poison dart frog must have jumped in their beer.

-The U.S. demands 26 Gold from me & I give it to them. Revenge will be so sweet if it ever comes. I wonder why F.D.R. looks like a caveman in a tuxedo. Maybe it's an Easter Egg from Geiko in the scenario.:)

-Fortaleza builds a Temple & starts building a Worker.

-Porto Alegre builds a Cathedral & starts building a Worker.

-Manaus builds a Cathedral & starts building a Worker.

Our people are very religious, apparently.

-Germany takes Rotterdam.

Week 44, 1939:

-Puerto Acre builds a Colosseum. It will be 12 more weeks until they reach population 2 so they start building a Police Station in the meantime. Same thing in Carajas, Cuyabaya & Goyas.

-Belem builds a Worker & starts building a Temple.

-Rio de Janeiro builds a Granary & starts building a Worker.

-Montevideo builds a Worker & starts building a Police Station.

-Curitiba builds a Worker & starts building a Cathedral.

-Asuncion builds a Temple & starts building a Cathedral. It will be 18 weeks until they regain population 2...

Week 45, 1939:

-Recife builds a Worker & starts building a Cathedral.

-Montevideo builds a Police Station & starts building a Worker. The 1st donut shop opens in Montevideo...

-Curitiba builds a Cathedral & starts building a Worker.

-Germany captures Antwerp!

-Japan captures Guam!

Week 46, 1939:

-Belem builds a Temple & starts building a Worker.

-Recife builds a Cathedral & starts building a Worker.

-Rio de Janeiro builds a Worker & starts building a Harbor.

-Sao Paulo builds a Worker & starts building a Colosseum.

-Asuncion builds a Cathedral & starts building a Colosseum.

Week 47, 1939:

-Argentina demands 29 Gold. After urinating on it, I give it to them. I have no choice. I am far from ready for war.

-Teffe builds a Colosseum & starts building a Police Station.

-Fortaleza builds a Worker & starts building a Cathedral.

-Germany captures Brussels! Belgian capitol moved to Leopoldville in Africa.

Week 48, 1939:

-Puerto Acre, Carajas, Goyas & Cuyabaya build Police Stations & begin building Workers.

-Fortaleza builds a Cathedral & begins building a Worker.

-Recife builds a Worker & starts building a Colosseum.

-Sao Paulo builds a Colosseum & starts building a Worker.

-Montevideo builds a Worker & starts building a Harbor.

-Porto Alegre builds a Worker & starts building a Colosseum.

-Manaus builds a Worker & starts building a Colosseum.

OK, so Brazil is not so exciting at the beginning.
