Your latest movie review

I'm hoping to see Blades of Glory tonight. I'll let you know how it is.

Aaand, I saw it. Blades of Glory might be one of the 10 or 15 funniest movies I've ever seen. Its waaaay better than Taladaga Nights. Instead of just relying on Will Ferrel outragous slapstick, there are quite a bit of visual gags as well. Pam from the Office is in it (and hot I might add)...and seldom more than 5 min goes by without something hysterical happening.

If you enjoy any of Will Ferrel movies, go see this one.

Yeah. The whole thing is totally predictable. Action movie by numbers.
Yep. Its like a rollercoaster ride. By that I mean you can see everything coming. The only surprise in the film is that Alicia Keys isnt just gorgeous, she can actually act.

I saw Blades of Glory last night (first movie in a theatre in 3 years) and thought it was pretty good. Certainly a good laugh and indeed better than Talladaga Nights (which isn't saying much), but the first half was fair and the last 7 minutes was awful. There were some great scenes though.

All in all, go see it and laugh a lot, but you won't remember it in 3 weeks.

That alone is a great reason to watch it.

I finally watched Platoon last week. Great movie, though the jet at the end (which was an F-5, and didn't exist during Vietnam) looked rather corny, but hey, that's the 80s for ya. I love the quotes from that movie, too.

"Everybody's gotta die sometime, Red."

I saw 300. It was fun, but totally historically inaccurate. The Persians' nonhuman-looking weird troops were lots of fun.

I consider the Persians to be non-humans anyway; it doesn't make any difference to me.

Saw a great one last night: Killer Drag Queens on Dope  Very very low budget camp, but well written and directed. Cartoony comic violence. Not for kids though. Not sure when it came out, but I dont think its recent, in one scene theyre using a phone with actual wires attached to it.

edit: just checked, came out in 2003

Do yourself a favor and go see Grindhouse. It's cheesy, it's stupid, it's low brow, but damn if it isn't fun. It's a cheerful homage to fils from the 70's that slapped bad acting, sex and gore into movies designed to fill drive ins. Well this is it done right.

It's 3 hours of pure awesomeness. Complete with fake trailers at the start and between, there are two main movies of contrasting styles. The first, "Planet Terror," is a horror movie that doesn't miss a cliche. Suffice to say, it's hilarious, non stop, and you'll see everything coming. The second is more subtle. This one is by Tarantino and you can tell. It starts out with some girls talking in a restaurant with typical Tarantino dialogue and just when you start to slouch after all that action, it picks up in a big way. As one review I read aptly stated, "Death Proof has lower lows [than Planet Terror] but it has the big moments." I thought the dialogue of Tarantino needed some work and was definitely not at the level of Pulp Fiction, but it didnt ruin the movie.

I recommend this movie wholeheartedly. It's entertaining, hilarious, and it's a great deal.
