Your mail is no longer private

OK Neomega lighten up he was only joking. Who in their right mind would put talcum powder in envelopes when you can achieve the same thing by spraying your mail with CK for men, or whatever.:)

Ok Sidhe, lighten up.. ;)

I'm sorry to disappoint you, but this is one paranoid fantasy you shouldn't concern yourself with.

In November of 2008, there will be an election; it will be free and fair by all standards. In January of 2009, George W. Bush will peacefully hand over power to the next person elected to that office.

Anyone that believes otherwise, in my opinion, must be completely out of their minds.

I think if George thought he had a good chance to get away with it (extending his stay in power, that is - not out-and-out making the USA a dictatorship), he might give it a try. Not out of evil or anything, but out of being convinced that no one else can do better against terrorists than he is. It seems consistent with his attitude to date - "Whatever it takes to save the United States" and all that.

Fortunately, most of his advisors should be able to tell him that would get him impeached faster than you can say "terror" - in the unlikely (yes, unlikely) event he doesn't realize it himself.

"...declared his right to open people's mail under emergency conditions".

-Once again, they leave the door open to further 'creeping fascism' via vague interpretations. This man has steadily expanded Presidential executive powers like no other in history, at the expense of our nation's legacy of civil rights. No matter how right-wing conservative you are (like me), enough is enough. This administration is killing the spirit of America. And that's more important than micro-ideology.

Word up.

What emergency conditions will actually happen that we would need to open the average persons mail.

I agree, love letters, postcards, mcdonalds coupons and cable bills will not help you save the world. On the other hand you can't save the world on an empty stomach and a nice Big Mac might solve that problem;)

If you've done nothing wrong,
You have nothing to fear.
If you've something to hide
You shouldn't even be here...

On the other hand, you can have done nothing wrong but have something to hide. If you ordered adult diapers or porn through the mail you havn't nessessarly done something wrong, but you'd probably like to keep it privite. Agreed?

This is one conservative who won't defend it. Would I want this power in the hands of the Democrats? Hell no.

I would like to see Bush himself come and try to open my mailbox. I might just happen to be hunting quail or grouse that day Cheney style.

I propose a trade off.

He gets to look at our mail and tap our phones and scan our e-mails, we get to know the details of every Bush Administration official's sex life, drug use history, and other shady stuff.

Sprinkle a little talcum powder in the envelopes first.

Nah Homeland security is ontop of powders youcan always try a pretzil thou.
