.01 - Guerrillas!

Got it - playing in about 8 hours (so if you have instructions, thoughts or other nuggets of wisdom feel free to drop em here)

I played 13 turns to get us back on an even number (so ended at 500 AD).

There was much killing of barbs and an unfortunate few deaths to them. In the end, our empire is much safer now then it was when I took over. Incursions have been reduced and a fog busting brigade is deployed to the south and south east (where I thought a barb city had appeared due to the stream issuing from that area BUT I was wrong).

We have Duns in all cities. As I was almost finished building a missionary to spread our faith to the losers in Tolosa... it spread freely of its own. The missionary is not quite complete, and can be finished at the next player's whim.

I am building a monastery in Vienne to increase our science output and to prepare for a cultural battle with Tok. We aren't touching borders yet, but it will happen soon. I do think we need to seriously consider a 4th and perhaps 5th city soon.

HC came along and asked for us to cancel open borders with Napoleon, I agreed.

I have just started a chop north of the capital, but next player can veto for something more opportune.

We did trade Math for Monarchy with Peter (and the HG were built in 410BC). We are now 4 turns away from having Alphabet. I wanted to get in on the tech trading before we are hopelessly out of it.

Next player can enjoy a relative peace - there is one warrior nearing our corn, but the archer there can pick him off the hill easily.

Ye Gods I make bad postcards...

I did manage to get all our resources hooked up and on roads. Now if we can find some extras... we can trade to Peter.

He has 3 gems and 1 ivory available and would love to trade us gems for our only copper...

:gripe: :help: :bump: :dunno: :old:

Or put another way... Not to gripe... but we need some help and perhaps this bump will answer a question about why I'm getting older waiting for a turn.

;)

A relatively quiet turnset (just buried a few more barbs, including one with a sword, that's all).

We are wealthy, thanks to the Pyramids (or the absence thereof).

Got a knock from Shaka:

Shaka: Hey, dot, let's close our eyes and open border!

Why do we have to close our eyes?

Shaka: Because we are opening our border.

Why do we have to close our eyes to open our borders?

Shaka: Because we Zulu believe when one thing opens, one other thing must be closed.

ONE thing. Then why are both your eyes closed?

Shaka: Because ... damn it, do you want to open borders or not!?

dot-AD0530-shaka.jpg

We got alphabet soon after ... nothing worth trading.

dot-AD0560-tech-sit.jpg

But boy, we are backwards.

In the other news, I am having settler chopped (... no, I am not chopping the settler ... I am chopping the trees for the settler ... come to think of it, how does one transform logs to settlers???) for yellow dot. A missionary is on its way to tour the great wall. And I discovered the first barb city ...

Forward We Look, and Forward We Go

Glad I could put a smile in your face there somewhere.

During my turn I saw too many monarchs crowned under Hereditary Rule for me to have much hope of Alpha completing in time to get any value out of it. It would be nice if Izzy would research something juicy so we could send her Monarchy and Priesthood in exchange!

My other thought was to research Currency, but it would have taken tons of turns and we still would not have been able to trade it (unless another civ came to us...). Just so I can learn GreyFox, why the choice to research Construction next?

Forward We Look, and Forward We Go
Hmm. Where is the man from Argentina? :scan:

Thanks go to GreyFox for reposting the roster and to bobrath for putting a smile in my face, too.

It's good to see that we are in better shape. And I hope that the missionary will be enjoying his sightseeing tour to the great wall and use the beauty and importance of this wonder to preach about the Enlightened One. ;)

If there's no response until tomorrow (approx 25 hrs from now) ... I'm going to pick it up.

Hmm, seems like Crotazzo is AWOL. I hope it's nothing serious. Maybe we're just not VQ enough for him? :p ;)

Got it.

Report up in abt 4 to 5 hours.

I'm going to continue this but I have three questions:

Settling

questions.jpg

The settler is one west of yellow dot. I'd like to move it SE instead to be able to work the fur after the border expansion for :) and :commerce:.

Furthermore there are signs for three other cities.
  • would be a City to block us from HC, possibly deny him some good land, grab the copper to trade with peter (possibly) and have a overall grassland rich city.
  • would be to firstly grab some horses, spices and sheep and secondly to up our defences even more because it would be in line with A ion closing the mountain chain to our east.
  • [possibly] would be another grassland rich city and maybe a launching spot for a war against Napoleon? Not so sure about this.
Another option would be to follow the AI and settle two west of the copper to allow room for another city 1 north of the original yellow spot. But I guess that'd be rather crappy.
So the question is ... Do I settle on yellow spot, 1 tile south of it or do I try to go straight for A? Just asking. :crazyeye:

Teching

techsituationonturn7.jpg

The tech situation is arising two questions imho.
  1. Do I try to get Currency from Isa for Priesthood and Construction if possible?
  2. What should our next tech be? I think that literature for the GL is out since we'll probably never make it. :undecide: I'm inclined to go for CoL to get some courthouses to be able to expand faster and max the use of our shrine to come. What do you think?
I'll leave these questions open for min 4 hours. After that I could grab it again ... else it would have to wait until tomorrow. I'd like to continue an maybe even play 15 to keep this going. Any objections to that?

All the best! Thanks for sticking with this rather slow going game and my rather bad SG leader skills. ;)

Hi everyone, sorry for kept u waiting, had some problems with my car and i was forced to spend the weekend away from an internet connected computer.

About the city i like the X spot, to get the fhur. those are some high commerce tiles that we can hook up right away, saving important tunrs on techs right now.

About the tech path, i think we are close to make a decision in wich type of win we are going to aim.
Because of our variant (abou the religion spread) we should aim for a diplomatic victory.
we should try to use some diplomacy to start a world war ( 3civs vs 3 civs or something) and grab some good cities then while boosting diplomacy with some civs. Of couse this is a vague idea and more analisis is required.

I will look at the save after dot plays, and try to think of a more detailed strat then.

And again forgive me for disapear.

I do like the A site quite a bit - as our next settle... its a bit far out there and may be rough on maintenance and defense for the startup.

Tech wise.. do what you think best. If we can get currency then I'm all kinds of happy about that.

I agree with settling A for next settler -- i.e. not the current one at/near yellow.

 we have a variant on religion spread???? I never knew that :hammer2: Ok ... to recall, we need to (A) kill one Civ, (B) vassal one Civ, and (C) 40% religion spread. It does seems conducive for a diplomatic or domination win.

Izzy is still religion-less ... so maybe we should try to introduce her to the buddha. That will secure one friend.

Tech-wise Priesthood+construction for currency should be doable. CoL is a reasonable choice.

Well sometimes RL just hits hard. And that always has priority. Nice to see that you're still with us and interested. :) Nothing to forgive, since there's nothing you have done wrong as far as I can see. :p ;)

So I'm going to settle the settler on the X and start up a new settler soon in Bibracte to grab A. And I'll play 15 turns in total. If it would be OK by Scowler I'd say that you can jump back in Crotazzo and play right after me. But Scowler has the vote there! :goodjob:

 Yes.

BTW: A comment to the knock from Shaka ... What I didn't tell you yet, GreyFox, is that it made me laugh so hard that my tummy hurt. That truely was a fun read. Thanx for that. I only wish I could do stuff like that.

Report up within the next six hours.

OK, here's what happenend.

Turn 3:

Bibracte -- Settler >> Gaelic Warrior

In the following turns a Great Prophet has been born iafal, Shaka adopted Vassalage, Isa adopted HR and the ToS has been built iafal.

Turn 6:

HCtoBuddha.jpg

Turn 7:

And sure as I don't know what we have a buddhist inca leader.

That's where I stopped for the settler and tech question.

Turn 8:

Bibracte -- Gaelic Warrior >> Gaelic Warrior
Vienne -- Worker >> Buddhist Missionary

Gregovia is settled and I got it started on a granary.

Gergovia.jpg

Turn 9:

Iafal a GA and a GE are born.
Construction >> CoL

I started withdrawing most of our fogbusters since they make up some 5 or 6 gpt of our maintenance expenses. Furthermore I forgot to go trading. :smoke:

Turn 10:

Notre Dame has been built iafal.
No harm done on the trading front. I trade with Ragnar and with HC.

Ragnar.jpg

HC.jpg

The deal with HC has been nice because it allows us to keep running our science slider high. We've been down to some 45 in our coffers, iirc.

Turn 11:

:coffee:

Turn 12:

Bibracte -- Gaelic Warrior >> Buddhist Missionary

Turn 13:

Tokugawa converts to Christianity. I am pretty sure that's no good news. So I think that we might want to keep him buddhistic. Gosh.

Turn 14:

Vienne -- Buddhist Missionary >> Worker
I set the missionary on a route towards Kyoto. He should be in Tokus capital after hitting Enter twice!

missionary.jpg

In other news the withdrawel of the fogbusters immediately spawned a barb city. I think that we could possibly use them to give our UU's - current and coming - some training on capturing cities. Keeping our variants in mind we might need that ... :p ;) (For the City see one of the pics further down.)

Turn 15:

Our Gaelic Warrior (GW) has defeated a barb swordsman and a Great General is born iafal.

------------- End Of Turn Report -------------

News from Celtia

Here are some Screenies from the East and South (with the barb city that is).

We have two Gaelic Warriors. Here is what they look like:

UU.jpg

And here is with whom they are going to have a close encounter of another kind:

andwhatheslookingforwardto.jpg

Next I have given orders to two workers at Tolosa. Whoever will play next - Scowler or Crotazzo - please make sure that they don't finish their work.
That is only if the team agrees on trying for the Great Lib in Tolosa. Yeah, yeah, I know. We most certainly won't make it. But if so, we could use the cash to keep the culture slider up. And if we make it ... Well ... :).

workers.jpg

The Roster

dot -- just played
Scowler -- Up (for 15) or On Deck
bobrath -- :scan:
GreyFox -- :scan:
Crotazzo -- Driving his car or maybe UP (for 15) (depending on his and Scowlers will)

Last but most definitely not least ...

We have literature. So the HE and the NE are both available. I thought about something like this.

How about settling green dot rather soon. I know. You all think it is a rather crappy site. But maintenance would be fairly low since it is so close to the capital. With the HE it might make for a decent military producer which doesn't need any other buildings. That would allow us some constant military output and our other cities could focus on buildings, missionaries, workers and settlers. Please comment on this or even better ... make another suggestion.

Ragnar is pleased with us, has just gotten construction from us, is pretty close and has no religion yet. I'd say go get him to convert to our religion. Wang Kon - with whom he's still at war - seems to be an aggressive pain in the a$$ in this game. So maybe we want to join in ???

Izzy is still out there without a religion, too. I think that missionaries should still be high up our priority list.

There'll be a missionary ready at Bibracte next turn. I did not whip at all in my set. So ... feel free to use the :whipped:.

Is Random Personalities on? Then Issy may not be the religious b!tch we used to know (and hate).

I'm impartial to the TGL ... it's a good wonder, but we would most certainly miss it.

Gaellic Warrior is a bit of a waste for defense unless we planning a war of some sort ... (Korean or french ame to mind for that).

I'm a bit surprise with the lack of settlers builds ... we should strive to expand at this phase ... unless we are planning to war.
