1.20 bugfix patch

Hi Xyth,

Not sure if this has been reported already or if it's working as intended, but after updating to 1.20 I cannot give any promotions to my Battering Rams even though they have the XP. I can upload a save later if you need it.

Will investigate.

The Mausoleum of Maussollos is again useless for short golden age?

It should apply to short golden ages as well, if it isn't that's a bug.

The Taj Mahal relations bonus is not applied if you are already in a Golden Age.

I know what's causing this, I'll fix it for 1.21 assuming I don't redesign that bonus. It's imbalanced in certain situations.

A bug emerge every turn, trying to upload the log file...

The log file I need is PythonErr.log. It will only be created if you've enable Python Exceptions in your CivilizationIV.ini file.

Playing as Meiji of Japan on the Huge Earth Map. Spawned the world's first Great Prophet (and was running Paganism, so there should have been no negative modifiers to the founding chance), but no religion was founded.

Sorry for the slow response; that error should have been fixed in the most recent version of the bugfix patch.

Strange, that definitely shouldn't be happening. Did subsequent prophets found religions as expected?

But I have download the latest patch, will it become effective if I dont't start a new game?

It won't break your current game, but it may not stop that particular error until you start a new one. I think.

I went back to an autosave from several turns earlier and filled my Progressive scientist slot, which gave me the GP one turn faster. This time the religion founded normally, so I kept playing. A while later, the world's second Prophet was born to an unknown civ... and *they* failed to found a religion. Shinto was the world's only religion for a loooong time.

I think the cemetery should change back to provide 1 free specialist in 1.21, producing so many great phophets is really a bit annoying

Personally, I would prefer to have it give one priest slot instead of a free specialist of any kind, and have its production cost cut by half to a third.

I'll do some testing and see if I can replicate the problem.

There needs to be a free specialist somewhere, otherwise it will take too long for any religions to be founded (particularly by the AI). What I'm considering is attaching a free specialist to the Palace, and leaving the Cemetery with a Priest slot (and reduced hammer cost).

Well, that would certainly give the Spiritual leaders a leg up in founding quickly, but the Creative, Enterprising, and Progressive ones would almost certainly end up getting some other type of Great Person first instead.

Under my current draft for traits in 1.20 it would be just Enterprising and Political leaders, Merchant and Spy respectively. I'm trying a different approach with Creative and Progressive (will post details when I've finalized them). Valid concern though. My feelings are that this solves more problems than it creates but I am of course open to a better solution should we think of one.

One thing to keep in mind is that early espionage points are very powerful, since the cost multiplier for spying (including simple infiltration) is based on the *total* relative number of :espionage: generated to date. A free spy specialist on a Political's Palace will *double* their early :espionage: output over almost everyone else, and getting a Great Spy for their first great person will just make it worse. They'll basically be able to see everything their non-Political neighbors are doing all game (Diplomatic and Judicial will take a little longer than the rest, assuming they maintain their respective current +1 :espionage:/specialist and +100% Espionage Defense bonuses, but not by much.)

And what happens if you play with no espionage option?
Becomes useless trait?
