1.52 Patch Available

Okay thanks.

I just wanted to make sure that having McAfee enabled wasn't going to screw something up while I install the patch.

When installing a game or software it is a good idea to disable antivirus software.
The best way to handle McAfee is to just uninstall it. That seems to fix alot of problems. :D
McAfee does have alot running in the backround and does slow performance. I would look at a different antivirus program.
For the corp enviroment I always go with symantec. For joe blow user at home, Its a toss up. Depends on what you use your computer for. I do not use either norton or mcafee on my gaming setups.
Long story short. Disable to install and patch your game.

I had many problems after I installed the new patch and every time I played I encountered new ones. The nest solution I found was to uninstall the whole game and then reinstall it with just the first patch, not the new one. I don't mean this to be snarky, just a fact. Now I like the game again and I eagerly look forward to a new patch the fixes this recent one.

Peace :king:

Me too. Maybe the nest patch will eliminate the CTD problem. Other companies seem able to make software that works, so there is always the chance that Firaxis can manage it.

The previous way stored the random number seed in save so that reloading a combat over and over gave the same results each time. Now you have the option to not have it work that way, in which a reload can give different results.

That would be for the cheaters, or those of us who get extremely disgusted when a spearman takes out our tanks.

The new patch actually seems to be working pretty well for me so far.

I noticed they have some new scenarios included- an East Asia scenario and a bunch of "grass-only" (yawn) maps.

I tried to load the East Asia scenario, but it comes up with an "invalid mod" error. Anybody out there had any better luck with this one???

As a note about minority... I don't know how views are counted here for non-registered users (per-IP I guess), but 130K views of memory-fix thread shows that much more people had this problem (otherwise they wouldn't follow).

Not to mention many forums which mirrored memory fix locally with translated instructions, so most downloaders didn't even get in here and were not accounted... I mean - this problem struck more than just a minority... I didn't put any counters or reports in my fix, but I think that at least ~150k users tried to use it, and that's only among those who read some forums... and nature of the fix implies that a user faces a problem. Would you download "3rd party wheel bug improvement for NFS:MW" when you don't see any bug with your wheels?

Agreed- how long are they going to keep their heads buried in the sand?? It's really getting old.

Unbelievable.

The did it again, only this time it wasnt just that the patch screwed up my game, oh no. It teased me first, then screwed up the game.

So I'm playing last night, and having a fun time with the new features - I start up the program this morning, I load my game, and it crashes to desktop. Theres a little popup that says that I've run out of video memory, and another that says the game has had to request a runtime to stop itself. What? I just started the game, I just started the computer! It ran fine last night!

Amazing. Simply amazing.

So, I recall that theres some programming that I can do to some .ini file that reduces the memory use even more. Ok, so I go look for some documentation.
Who ships a patch without also shipping a readme? Answer. Firaxis.
So, now, I have to come to work today and take a look at civfanatics and see how to do this fix for the fix that was supposed to fix the fix for the original game.

You bet Firaxis is going to hear from me today.

So basically stay away from the new patch? I was dumb enough to install it before reading the message boards and my computer crashes with the video error message. Any suggestions on how to fix this?

Yup. Uninstall the whole game and then reinstall it with just the first patch, not the new one. Sorry :(

152 broke the game for me as well. Have 32MB geforce2 gts that worked fine with the default install and with the 109 patch.

Installed 152 and started getting the video messages. Went through and deleted the user files and got things started. Played a whole game over a weeks time, came back to start a new one and started getting the error again.

Most annoying.

Too bad, but it looks as if the real fix is coming in the expansion pack.

And hey all you loyalists out there. The ones that think civ can do no wrong. You keep hanging in there. I am sure some day, maybe, you will see that expansion pack. Then all the blind defending you do will be rewarded. Rewarded with spending more money just to get the first game you spent money on to work. Oh but it works for 99% of the people right. LOL.
Sorry I ain't buying that bridge.
Go ahead, defend your game all you want. But the truth is it was not tested properly. It was realesed early so they could justify selling the company. The staff and the org is in disaray right now, because of the sale. And those of you still waiting for a patch will never see it. At least not until they get the expansion pack together.
Mods, go ahead, ban me, erase my profile. I could care. I unloaded that pos game on a coder I work with. Dirt cheap. 5 dollars. I still feel like I ripped him off. So Good luck to all and to the rest, well you know what you can do.

Seriously, Blue3c, do you really have to be such a pathetic and pompous little whiner? You keep telling the so-called 'loyalists' to hang in there-but hang in for WHAT exactly? My game has worked perfectly since the day I bought it-with just a minor MP glitch when 1.09 came out. Except for that, the game has worked great AND I still say that I am amongst the majority here. To me it just sounds like you have a crappy, virus-infested computer-and that this is the real cause of your problems. Seriously, if you have NOTHING good to say, why can't you just say nothing at all?

I found the patch v1.52 great because some new stuff are now alvailable.
But I notice more bug like during battle or when moving units, does you ?

I downloaded the newest patch from the advanced button within civ 4 and after it DL'd, my pc told me there was no civ 4 program on my pc and therefore couldnt install it.

Can anyone help me with this?

Any suggestions for game settings to lessen the lag?

I saw a previous post about the same problem. Set the graphics to minimum and the games starts now.
