1.52 Patch Available

and here is my other issue. The only CTD problems I had were when I had a 256MB Video Card (Radeon), and this same video card prevented me from using Google Earth and Doom3 at all :(. Since I downgraded to a 128MB I have had a total of ZERO CTD's and only a minimal amount of slowdown on Huge Maps (and, with 1.52, not even that!) So this really does highlight the role of Hardware/Software-beyond the game-in causing crashes and even slowdowns. Oh, and before you ask, my system is good-but not great. Its a 2.4GHz Celeron with 1GB of RAM (but the game worked fine for me with only 512MB of RAM, just felt like really upgrading my RAM).

HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA.
Ok last post for sure. I did all my replying to aussie lurker in a private message. Felt that is all I needed to say to it.
As for anyone getting confused about what it is I do from someones previous posts. I run a very nice and successful computer company. I am not a coder. I do contract out to others for onsite work. While also building computers at my business. I am also a microsoft trainer. But I am in no other way posting for MS. My company is a microsoft solutions provider. But thats as close to them as I get.
So if anyone thinks my previous posts are in support of MS or faking having troubles with the game. That is not what I am doing. I was concerned with the troubles I was having with the game and the lack of support.
I say was because as I said I sold my game for a whopping five spot. Kinda like a mad husband sells things before a divorce.
As for my machines, yes thats more then one, being crap. Well no. My recent build which just replaced the old gaming rig a pIV 3.2 with 2 gb of ram. Well it is a amd 64 3500+ 4 gb of ddr2, audigy2 sound card, geforce 6800 running xp pro sp2. Yah thats a junk machine alright. LOL.
Being as this is finally my last post (I had to defend myself here), I do have to say any further attempts to get under my skin will fail.

As for the 1.52 patch. It is a step in the right direction. But it needs more work. Alot of work.
The game itself when it does work is awesome. But there is the problem. When it does work. This is not something I or anyone who purchased this game should have to say.
You can quote polls on bothsides. But no one has true numbers. Polls posted here there and everywhere.
I do however have to say, why is it that the people who support the game feel the need to attack the ones who are having problems. It makes no sense. Why are you so quick to defend the game and cut on the ones who are having problems. This has gone on since the game was released.
Either way I need to get out of here. Yes its my birthday and I am out of here and there. Good luck all.

you can't quote a poll and later say it's only a few people who responded that they have issues. you either consider that the poll's results represent a larger group of people or you disregard it.
why i bring this up after the ainwoods post? because it's important for people to realize that there isn't a way to know how many actually have or had problems, you have to estimate it by some means, and the rational and statistical way to go is to pick up representative samples, not to wait for every single person to say "yes" or "no".
now, the analisis of that data is not for this thread, even though you have a lot of data points here.
and more on topic, could a mod edit the first post and include some stuff there for first readers, that they should delete CustomAssets, instal the patch out of the game, and some other solutions written here?

Interestingly, the new patch works well on my grandpa old Pentium 3 computer. After finishing three games, a few comments:

- The patch seems not compatible with BlueMarble mod. I unstalled it and the game never crashed since then.
- Changing AGP aperture setting and disabling Norton antivirus somewhat speed up the game, maybe more obvious in my slow computer.
- Some funny faces of Tokugawa and Montsy are noticed
- Occasionally pop up of the build selection screen is also seen

I generally like this patch. The game does run faster, and shorter time in reloading. Keep working hard Firaxis people despite some pretty bad comments in this thread. Thanks.

Does this all mean i should NOT download this patch???
No it should not mean that. The patch works fine for me and many others. Try it for yourself.. you can always unistall it if you should be one of the unlucky few that have had trouble with it. Don't let those few naysayers prevent you from experiancing the improvements and new features that patch v1.52 has to offer.

When is the next patch available? I've got constant crashes with a hot rod machine 1.52 and all due care taken. It's frustrating. The phone support is disconnected. No response to emails. What is going on?

Hello everyone.

Before this patch, when I tried running this game on my laptop, I get the 'can see eyeballs and mouth only' problem with the leaders, and the terrain is black, making the game unplayable.

And now after the patch, I can see the leaders in their full form, and I can see the terrain. And the game is playable for the first few turns.

I haven't tried playing a full-length game so I don't know if it can be done. And I don't want to know. I spent £700 on a new rig just to play this game and I'd be chuffed if all I needed to do to play the game was wait for the patch.

I spent $1,650 on a new laptop specifically for the game, but I have to say that it has worked perfectly from day 1 (in Huge, Epic mode) even unpatched.

I do like the new patch - using full power for wounded troops makes sense and has a more intuitive effect (I can usually predict which will win now); having less power AND less stamina was too much of a hit. Also, Marathon mode is perfect for my tastes.

I did experience a bug when I first ran with 1.52; I reloaded my last save and it kept crapping out. I then tried the save before that and it has worked perfectly since. I suspect that the 'bad' save was done at just the wrong time when some inconsistency between the two versions was evident.

I'm still having issues with the Intro Movies with this patch (probably wonder movies too, but I use the intro to judge). With the original version (if I recall correctly), the video played fine, but audio cut in and out. With 1.09, it stuttered BADLY (it got like 4 frames in and then stopped for a few seconds). With 1.52, it's closer to smooth; the jumps are smaller, but still there. I remember that I've seen that wonder movies got worse, but I've tried all the options here looking at just the intro movies. SyncInput didn't help, nor MemSaver. Fraps says I'm getting about 14 FPS on the movies; the Bink player plays them at 30 fine.

The system ought to have enough horsepower; I just got it (replacing the computer for many reasons), but it's got an Athlon64x2 3800+ dual core, 2GB ram, and a NVidia 6200 graphics card. Normal resolution is 1680x1050, but the problem happens on any resolution down to 1024x768 at 16 bit color (can't force it to run any lower than that). Latest BIOS (Asus K8N-SLI motherboard), sound drivers (RealTek AC97, ALC850), and video drivers (81.95, I think; not in front of the computer right now).

Oh, and I've never turned on in-game AA; it's always been 0 whenever I look. I tried turning it on temporarily, and the clouds started moving jerkily, so I turned it back off. And I've gone through at least one full removal and reinstall since then.

Any suggestions? I'd try the low-res movies, but they're not out there. I know people don't have issues on computers with less memory and CPU, so I suspect some interaction thing (which I can hopefully set some setting for)

Is anyone getting really weird facial expressions just right when you meet Tokugawa and um, one of the Latin American chieftains [I forget which one]. Their eyes almost bulge out of their heads and then return to normal. They seem to be baring [that's the correct present participle of "bare", it just looks wrong] their teeth as well. Is this just me?

It isnt just u. I get it everytime with Tokugawa. He almost looks like a human skull for brief instance.

I cant help wonder if someone with a strange sense of humor made it so.

New Random Seed on Reload - "A new random seed is generated every time the game is reloaded - which, for example, will lead to different combat results"

I really like this feature and wish I could just have it default to this (so I don't have to go through the custom screen to start a game) . . . Does anyone know if there is a setting I can update in the .ini file that makes a new random seed be the default? Thanks in advance!

It would be wiser just to give your first warrior power of 100 - that'll just save some time reloading it for the 1000th time ;)

I've about given up on CIV4. I've got more pain than fun. There is nobody supporting this game. The phone is disconnected. Emails are ignored. The forum doesn't seem to do any good.

My next step is plaster the internet with -CIV4 is CRAP- and return the game for a refund. This will include emails to game tech news reporters and reviewers.

I'm saying this because I'm angry. My computer crashes due to SOFTWARE BUGS. I'm getting no response. I've about reached my limit. A few days with no response and I pull the trigger.

I'm sure they are quaking in their boots. No doubt, once the game reviewers hear about your problems, they will immediately retract all of those "Game of the Year" awards.

The idea that for $50 you expect personal telephone support is rather ludicrous. No one can afford to try to diagnose your individual problems for this kind of software. They are focused on fixing the majority of problems for the majority of users, and so far they seem to be doing pretty well.

I just got back from a 2 week vacation. I downloaded this patch before I left, but I'll need to redo it because my installation of Civ4 got all garbled up and stopped working.

I don't want to read through 31 pages of people attacking eachother, so can someone simply give me a summary of what's happening with 1.52?

Whoops, hahaha, I just jumped in at the end here :p

Although I wasn't asking what the patch included, but what the hoohah is over ... is it a good patch or not?
