1.52 Patch Available

Sorry about that. It could be a problem with our file server, or the FTP program I use to upload is problematic.

Anyway, I will remove the CFC download link for the patch for now. We plan to replace the current file server with a new server by the end of the year.

WO!! i love this patch. i just got started in a new game so i dont know how well it will work in the long haul but i opened my options to check them and it was working with all the graphics settings at high. running great no problems so far. i also noticed they added a few things to the ini file. i checked to see if any of the changes i had done were still there, i see we can now turn off the cache competely if we want. there are a few other things added that i know werent there before and maybe useful for some people that still have problems after the patch.

seems to work ok. not as fast as hark's, but i haven't tried the "ultra" mode yet. saves are somewhat different, though, so beware.

After applying 1.52 I accessed the Civilopedia and noticed something a bit odd with it. The first three entries, Technologies, Units, and Buildings show normally when clicked on.

Starting with Base Terrain, the results are keyed with the next feature down. To illustrate, I click on Base Terrain and whatever I was looking at is still there.
I click on Terrain Features and I see Base Terrain.
I click on Resources and I see the results from Terrain Features, etc.
I click on Hints and get Game Concepts.
I can't see any results for Hints.

It looks like the highlighted square doesn't come out right either, seeming to synchronize with the error. I'd been playing fine with 1.09, and run no mods.

Dell 9200 Pentium M 1.6gHz
1.2gb memory
80gb disk
128mHz ATI 9700 Radeon
XP SP2, all updates applied.

Edit: Solved the problem by deleting the folder Sid Meier's Civilization 4 in My Games. Must have been a corrupt file somewheres. Back to playing. Thanks to Firaxis for the game and hard work afterwards. Merry Christmas.

I re-posted this in the Bug Report thread. Please ignore here

I installed the patch and now get an error message when I click the icon: "The parameter is incorrect". When I go to the directory where the program is stored and click on civ.exe I get the same message.

I previously ran version 1.09 without any difficulty. I have the Blue Marble graphics program installed. It caused no problem in 1.09. Does anyone have a suggestion on how to fix this??

My computer is a 2.8 GHz Pentium 4 with 512MB of memory and a 256 MB ATI Radeon X1300 Pro graphics card.
I got the exact same problem as this.

I tried to do what is suggested in the explanation and change MemSaver =1

After I did so on Python Init always Freezes!!!!

WTH!?!?! I cant even play the game now!!!!

I changed it back it still wont load!

This sux!

I am home for the holidays and can not reinstall because I brouht my play disc only. FIRAXIS YOU SUCK!!!:ar15:

[Edit] NM.. me so stupid... off to play

I DL to my desktop and installed from there. I got a 1706 error and clicked through it. The game ran just fine for 2000 years when I quit to load a 1.09 game that was at about 1700 AD. It ran as I expected, but slowed down as the game progressed. So far I'm pleased. All large maps. I like the changes. Does anyone have any meaty details on marathon?

BTW, I installed over my Blue marble and it is working just fine.

i have just installed the new patch but when i start CIV4 it gives an XML error the same thing happened when i installed Blue Marble but i solved this by changing regional and language options of my PC
can anyone help??

Boys, delete old caches first.

They are located in C:\Documents and Settings\<Your user name>\Application Data\My Games\Civ...

I'm sorry if this has been said before, but I really don't have time right now to plow through 17 pages to find the info I need.

Ever since I installed the patch, I can't see the interface once I'm playing! The main menu and the other ones are just fine, but when I load/start a game, I can see the map and all but not the UI (when I enter a city, the view gets top-down as usual, but only the white circles indicating a functional square and what each produces is shown, and not the menus on the side nor bottom).

I'd appreciate it if someone could help me with my problem. There must be a hotkey to switch on the interface somewhere...

EDIT: I've tried both ALT-I and CTRL-I. None of them worked...

After getting the 1.52 patch when ever i try and start up the game it asks for me to put in the cd. Now it the cd is in the drive allready and it worked fine with 1.09.

Is there anyway to fix this?

This patch is certainly better than the first one. My game worked just fine in version 1.0. Version 1.09 crashed my system and I couldn't use it. In version 1.52 the game seems to play fine. I tried it on a large world. But the intro movie locks up half way through and victory movies play audio only. Wonder movies play fine. I was wondering of there's an adjustment in the ini file that could fix this? (FYI: GF6200 81:95)

One funny thing I did notice has to do with UN elections. I won the first election which was fine. I lost the next one to Napoleon. I won the 3rd election, but Napoleon was still calling the shots.

I have exactly the opposite experience.

On my laptop Pentium 4 3.06 GHZ 512 MB RAM, ATI Mobility Radeon 9200 64 MB it worked somewhat on 1.09. Only on Standard Maps with not more than 4 oppnents though which sucks on its own.

With great anticipation I downloaded and installed the new patch hoping to finally crack s large or huge map. No can do.
Now every time I want to start a game I get the black screen freeze. The only thing left is a cold reboot, Very soon I have to replace the on/off button of my pc because of this game.
To play I guess I have to uninstall and go back to 1.09.
I am out of ideas don't know what to do anymore.

What a waste of money this game is. Shame on you Firaxis.

I still wonder why there are PC configurations like that nowadays. The components are ridicolously unbalanced. Radeon 9200 to a 3GHZ P4, lol. That is hardly better then having some 0$ integrated graphics card. And the worst is that you cannot upgrade it...

So does this basically mean I cannot ever play the game on large or huge maps? Provided I get it to work again?

With that laptop, it will probably never run very well. You could buy a cheap desktop PC for $600 or so that would play the game just fine.

If the 9200 uses shared graphics, upping the laptop's RAM to 1gb should let you use 128mb as video memory instead of 64mb.. which might solve your large map problem.
Check the manual, but if this is the case it could be the most cost-effective option...
