It is good to see that good sportsmanship and the Olympic spirit is still alive and well in Vancouver.:mischief:

I'm pretty sure the result was in perfect accord with the Olympic spirit. Overcoming adversity, achieving the best you can possibly achieve, swifter, higher, stronger and all that.

Canada had more shorthanded goals then the Slovaks had Powerplay shots. So i guess we could have been more sportsmanlike and voluntarily played a man down the entire game, or you know kept the goalie on the bench, or maybe just played keep away for 40 minutes in order to not run up the score. Much better options those are!

keep that "running up the score" crap inside the usa please.
I really think they need a little league mercy rule.

They're really good at short-distance speed skating, I believe..
Except when the South Koreans are running 1-2-3 with the US 4-5 at the last corner of the 1500m men's final, the #3 guy takes the #2 guy out, Apolo Ohno goes from 4-2 for the silver, and JR Celski goes from 5-3!

USA! USA! USA!

Alexandre Bilodeau has become the first Canadian to win a gold medal on Canadian soil, winning the men's moguls freestyle skiing. :goodjob:

That was a hell of a run.

In all seriousness, teams wouldn't need to do this is the IIHF changed the damn rules regarding goal differential being a determining factor in these tournaments.

And, Woo Hoo! The monkey is off our back. Keep it coming! Two medals today, and good showings in figure skating and biathalon (of all things) in the coming days.

Love the pride being shown around the country as well. At the Flames game last night, four of my friends and I spent most of the second period in the lounge watching with scores of other people the women's mougles. One example. Sounds like great fun on the ground from our local posters. Just don't burn the city... :mischief::p;)

I remember seeing that live on TV.. me and my friend literally screamed

and we're not even american or korean

Although that sucks for Australia. AFAIK, Dale Begg-Smith (who got silver) was Australia's only real gold medal hope...

 that he was born in Vancouver, though.

Yay Bilodeau!

Great showing in men's moguls for Canada - 1st, 4th, 5th, and 11th. :goodjob:

Most people I talked to were hoping a Canadian would beat Begg-Smith just for that reason. Well, it didn't help that his software business (the main reason he left Canada) produces spyware & malware.

I think short track skating is by far the most exciting winter sport. Snowboard cross is probably next for the same basic reason. Downhill racing 5 at a time would be awesome as well, but people would likely die...

BTW I'm watching the qualifying for the snowboard cross now. Many of the competitors are wearing black helmets with video cams attached to the top. The stubby antennas makes it look like they are human bombs.

yay....downhill was exciting :) and golden :smug:

The coolest thing I have seen so far is the slo-mo replays of the jumps/flips at the mogul events.

It looks so amazingly crisp and clear in high definition, I can't even describe it. Looks like a video game.

That was AWESOME. I think my jaw hit the floor while watching those replays.

I told my officemate he should come over to watch some Olympics in HD, but he doesn't understand the HD hype. He's seen a few shows in HD (no sports) but not been blown away by it. He's also not much of a sports person, really only watching the Olympics when they come around. I guess the aerials might be a good event to showcase HD, if the camera work is anywhere near as good as moguls.

Man, aerials are going to be amazing in hd!

btw and another silver for canada :goodjob:

And Switzerland leads the Medals Table! Yeah! ;-)

Snowboard Cross is really cool to watch though, would advise it to anyone (on now!)

For some reason the American and Canadian stations are counting medal totals, as opposed to the way I'm used to (# of gold medals first, then silvers, then bronzes)

Has it always been like that? or am I just crazy..

For the Beijing Olympics that ordered them by gold medals won. I'm not sure if that is the common practice but i prefer a count of total medals.
