No, trail blazer was when Independence Day blew up the White House (debatable, since that wasn't the first time it was done). This is just doing the same thing over again. Literally, it's the same director who did Independence Day.
I like disaster film too. Cloverfield is one of my favourite films.
This isn't a disaster film. This is a string of special effects. It's disaster porn, kinda like Saw is torture porn. Sure, it can be fun to watch, but it's not *good*
Emmerich is slightly lower profile version of Michael Bay with a tendency towards disaster movies rather than regular action movies. Like ones with robots.
It looks horrible. Was the Earth splitting open into abyss?

When I watched the preview I was thinking "ooh how cool a movie with million dollors of special effects but no plot or good dialogue and boring cliche charators. This will be fun."
After having seen the preview I felt it looked good....until fireballs fell for no reason, buildings collapsed for no reason, a lot of catholics were smashed for what I suspect was a Bay/Emmerich style attempt at using metaphors...or something, but ultimately for no reason.
after the headlines: from the director of Independence day and The day after tommorrow(but no mention of Godzilla) I stopped watching. It was stupid and unbearable to sit through and I honestly think the movie strippers vs. zombies I bought today is gonna have more plot than this.
