My latest waste of time will be playing through all 31 civs and posting the games here. It really won't be a story, just a few comments and screenshots (kind of like stocktracker's games). I am going to try 75% size to make it easier to read as suggested by others. Also, as these are all going to be submitted to the Civ III HoF, there will be different map sizes, difficulties, and victory conditions, with the last one being a histographic milk game on demi-god:scared: I'm saving the Iroquois for that last one.

So, here we are. I haven't started any yet, what would you like to see first?
I was thinking about using Portugal first, because they are the hind end of all civilization. I'll wait a little, but if I don't see otherwise, Portugal is it.

Edit: sorry about the 75% thing, I haven't given up, but the first several are the large size pics.

I think that, for an extra challenge, you should do portugal, on a pangea map with 60% water, no barbarians... and never build a scout.

As you start each game, please include your thoughts about which
victory condition(s) you're going for, and how that influences your key
decisions. I imagine that will also be tied to the Civ's characteristics,
e.g., China for conquest victories, Babylon for cultural victories.
Which civ, if any, is well suited for Diplo victories?

I've had difficulty getting a 20K culture victory, but have
no difficulty with 100K culture victories (at the lower difficulty levels).
Do you uncheck certain conditions? If you think you will go for conquest,
do you uncheck domination, or just raze the cities, so that the size
of your empire doesn't go over the limit?

Oh, and starting with Portugal sounds fine. I have not tried playing them yet.

Any of the SCI civs are good for diplo or space victories, as you need fast research.

Read this thread: http://forums.civfanatics.com/showthread.php?t=162674 [/hof plug]

To submit to the hof (you know you want to) you need to play with all normal VCs turned on.

Yeah, I like portugal. On a high level.

Wow, I got a lot more responses than I thought. :goodjob:

Homer, I mean mmm...donuts, going in chronological order is a really cool idea, and the only reason I'm rejecting it is I'm too lazy. Plus, I want to play the less optimal civs first and Sumeria is one of the best. I will use them, but later.

Going alphabetic or in order on the screen are kind of trite, I think I'd rather go random if I had too.

Do Portugal. They are the extra hairs on the tail of the civilization lion.
This is a great quote!

I say do them in order of culture group, as in do all the Mid East civs, then all the Asian civs, and so forth.

Another good suggestion, but my chaotic and whimsical nature prevents me from having a set order in mind ahead of time.

@ Iggy, I hope its worth it.
@ Vind2, could be, but since I'm doing it, I wouldn't count on it.

Yeah, right! And how about I never build a ship either! Actually, I might take you up on this, and do it on chieftan. Why chieftan (replying to groans as everyone reads this) Because the current gauntlet is standard chieftan score, so I pick the victory as long as its on standard map on chieftan difficulty. I will go for 20k. The chart is full, but hopefully I can beat 1754.

So, starting next post, Portugal 20k on chieftan on a standard size map.

Vorlon, you have to leave all victory conditions enabled or you can't submit. And you have to stay under the domination limit if you don't want domination.

I'm here, WarMaster Marsden! :wavey:

Good luck, and may the RNG gods be with you! :D

Go get 'em! :salute:

Aim higher, Marsden. Wouldn't it be great if when you've done civ #31, they're all still on the HoF lists? I'll be following this.

Yes, this will be worth it Mars.

I'm in for the ride. Although playing in chronological order would be pretty awesome.

Do portugal first. They are okay on archpelego, awful on pangea.
Which civ, if any, is well suited for Diplo victories?

America. Britain. Egypt. Zulu. (America obvious, britain created it, egypt - boutrous boutros ghali, zulu - kofi annan [kofi annan means 'my monkey cloud' in hebrew])

Roger that, all victory conditions enabled.

From reading some of your other comments, it seems like you utilize several
factors in determining which VC you're going for --
Civ traits ; map size ; map type ( cont/pang/archi, %water, age)
as well as difficulty level (influences the AI research rate). Is that true?

Do you choose your opposing civs, or go random? Does the HOF care?
What are you planning for your Portugal game?

I'm still in the mode of choosing a map type, and trying to make the best
of whatever cards I'm dealt. If I really want a 20k victory, I should
follow Sanabas's instructions, and set up the factors I *can* control
to make it easier.

Usually, you choose your opponents for a HOF game. For a game where you want to get a fast diplo victory, you usually select all scientific civs, so you can get all the 1st level techs when you switch eras, for instance.
