More Unique Components for Vox Populi

3rd and 4th Unique Components for VP - Official thread 87

How does latifundium works for pantheons that provide bonus for plantation and wheat farm? Is fig provide any bonus?

It's very delayed compared to regular Plantations of Goddess of Springtime, but you'll over all get more - Wheat Latifundiums will also spawn Plantation, increasing the amount of ones you get later on. Goddess of Springtime is okay, but Latifundiums take fairly longer than the alternative to raise, so you'll be losing out on yields. Rome probably shouldn't be going too fast to the Markets because it has all it's four uniques in the different direction in the tech tree, so it's probably not an optimal choice ever.

Just forget God of the Sun (wheat pantheon), Rome doesn't want it and won't benefit - just build Latifundiums or (if not possible because another latifundium/you know no Figs can spawn on adjacent tile) put a Great Person Tile Improvement on it.

@pineappledan, Just a heads up, but I forgot to mention my last 3/4UC game (v.46) had my main luxury as spices; they were not showing as "cinnamon". Don't know if it's just on my end or not.

Thanks for patch, it's always good to see how you keep the mods up to date. Prussia's lua compatibility is nice too, I've already figured it out myself as it wasn't as hard as I initially thought, but official support is nice.

Currently playing with Spain; my Armadas are getting the bonus experience whenever one of them attacks a city. The city does have a caravel parked inside; I haven't had enough naval encounters to be able to check and see if it's happening otherwise.

EDIT: Did not happen when attacking a Moroccan Caravel by itself.

I just noticed the exact same thing in my Spain game. Will continue to see if it happens against cities with no ships on them, etc.

Edit: Yep, attacking an empty city seems to gain Armadas xp. Slightly less than ideal, maybe. (Granted, fun for this instance of abusing it.)

I’ve never been an advocate for that XP on kills mechanic. Iterating through 91 tiles on kill is ludicrous.

I’m thinking of I should remove the XP on kill and 1 CS, and add boarding party II, thus giving Armada plague immunity, so that Armadas don’t suffer boarding party movement.

The armadas already have -1 base move and boarding party I, and the reason we did that was because those ships were designed for boarding actions and fending off enemy boarding parties. If they get hit by a boarding party plague they can barely move at all, so this design has been flipped around from its original intent.

Doesn't that kind of completely destroy the flavor of the Armada, though? The word 'armada' is literally the Spanish (and Portuguese? I think?) word for a fleet.

Also the boarding immunity couldn't be more meaningless, IMHO, at least not on a melee ship. I literally never even think about it. When I see the "status effect" pop-up, the most I've ever thought was, "Oh, right, that's a thing." I don't think it's ever even caused me to take unintended damage, never mind lose a ship.

Not that Spain's second UU needs to be particularly meaningful, mind you. Conquistadors are already nutty by themselves; Spain's entire toolkit could just be "she has Conquistadors" and she'd still be an A-rank warmonger.

...No? They will still have the Santa Maria and Invincible promotions (+4CS at full HP). They already have Boarding Party I, I'm suggesting they get 1 more level of Boarding Party.

Umm... It's boarding party II, so it also gives more bonus vs other ships and is a stem promotion, giving more progression along the tree. The Armada will be able to get level 4 promotions via barracks/armory, plus they can be faith-purchased. Most people will take boarding party II as their first promotion right now anyways, but this will make sure that the Armada are never unduly hobbled by that -1 movement we gave them.

So here's what I propose:
Spanish armada CS reduced to 38 (42 with invincibility)
Invincible no longer gives extra XP on kills
Armada now gets Boarding party II

Corsair CS reduced to 37 (this has been bugging me a long time; the corsair is just a little too good right now)

Being able to get Blitz on Armada's looks interesting; Naval Melee that can hit and run. Having Boarding Party opens up Navigation if they need the Movement.

Reporting two important bugs I found on the Suffet:

  • Suffet multiplication: you can get multiple suffets by ordering it to go somewhere that the pathing algorithm would make it switch between general and admiral form. Examples:
    • Spoiler From Raiatea to Samoa :
      20190730030634_1.jpg
    • Spoiler Crossing Nippur and a fort :
      20190730030659_1.jpg
      20190730030713_1.jpg
  • The suffet doesn't benefit from Imperialism's Regimental System. This includes both the +10% :c5strength: and the extra +1 range effect on the combat aura, and in both general and admiral forms.

There's an updated and compatible version of 4UC now up on the Github. I can't test it right now (not at home this week. no computer with civ 5).

If someone could test if my fixes to Suffet work I would be much obliged (clears existing missions of Suffet on embark and adds Imperialism compatibility)

Sounds like a new update will be forthcoming in less than a week anyways, and it's going to include some changes to Oxford and a few other buildings, so I'm probably going to skip this VP beta
Code:
v48:
- compatibility:
    - Field Works Promotion line added to Pracinha, Carolean, and Landwehr
- tweaked/modified:
    - SpanishArmada ==> Reduced CS, but increased bonus CS from Invincible
==> No longer has bonus XP on kills
==> added Boarded II for plague immunity
    - Sachems Council ==> code optimization. Uses SQL for unit promotion now
- fixed:
    - Suffet ==> cleared missions and added Imperialism policy compatibility
In other news, I've been noticing that Aztec are getting creamed in my own games with 4UC, relative to other civs, they are pretty consistently on the bottom.
