4 grams - SNOW

Pre-turn: Sold literature to Koreans for all the gold they had. - 129G (America had literature so i didn't see the point to keep it)

T1. 130BC Berlin settler->sword; Cologne worker->worker

IBT: Babylonians didn't follow the bait and instead of moving towards undefended Hamburg ran into the woods south from Berlin.

T2. 110BC. with the help of catapult we kill a Bowmen and 2 bab warriors. There are more troops from Babylon aproaching.
I fortified a spear and an archer inside that forest...

IBT: Lost a spear to Bab's sword. Bow moves on top of sugar near Babylon

T3. 90BC. Frankfurt Sword->Sword
Sword kills warrior near Munich and promoted to elite.
Bombard Bow on sugar and sword kills it. Fortify army on top of 1hp sword to cover.

IBT: Romans finished Pyramids.

T4. 70BC. Konigsberg, Munich and Berlin built swords.
Berlin starts on settler.
Americans have feudalism and building SUnTzu.. Geting troops together to capture Ellipi.
Leipzig and Heidelburg are about to riot. DOn't have troops for MP purposes so i have to hike lux slider to 30%

IBT.
Romans finished SoZ. Babs building SunTzu.

T5. 50BC Ellipu is captured. Sippar is captured. Silks connected and lux goes back to 10%. Another stack of troops is gathering to capture Uruk.

T6. 30BC Berlin settler->spear.

IBT: Bab. MDI attacks our troop stack and dies.

T7. 10BC. We raze Uruk. We have 2 elite victories this turn but no luck.

T8 10AD Hire lone scientist in Ellipi and pu science to 0%. I wonder if i should have razed Ellipi and re-build...

IBT: Koreans build GL.

T9 30AD. Another elite victory and no luck again. Moving troops to take Nineveh

IBT. Elliti is finally quelled.

T10. 50AD Leipzig Sword->library. Another unlucky elite win

Post turn: We do need those libraries and markets and i haven't started building any because army was the the priority. Now we have few swords and i suggest we start building libraries and markets one at a time.
We can't really research at the moment with the state of economy we have, that is why i never spent more than minimum money on research.
I haven't moved some workers for the next player to decide what to do with those. Army is near Nineveh and ready to take it out next turn.
I made a mistake ordering workers to road towards Nineveh this turn and then forgot to cover them with troops.
Babs will probably capture 2 workers, but i hope we can recapture them. I have a settler west from Berlin, wasn't sure on best location for city.
Babs have pikemen in cities now. We may want to build some trebushets for siege of Babylon.
Should we abandon Ellipi???
Arrgh... I also missed and just noticed that cow wasn't improved near Heidelburg, we should probably irrigate that cow tile...
Also, lets send an army to cut Bab's iron and do some pillaging. I hate seeing their MDIs and pikes all around the map
Oh, And Babylon Bowmen never won a single battle during my turns, so I suspect they are not in GA yet.
Lots of elite victories but no luck.

4grams-50AD.JPG

Good job. :D Keep building cities with settlers from Berlin to help our economy.

Pillaging the Babylonians with the army while we gather strength is a good plan. We want to pillage the city of Babylon to isolate it. This breaks any deals Babylon has with other AI, and probably gets it down to size 6 for the attack since it will be without lux.

FWIW, we usually build markets first, then libraries in AW games. Also ducts to get cities to size 7 since we get 4 free units @ size 7.

We don't want to sandbag, but we need to be smart and build some strength before attacking cities with pikes that are size 7+ with no artillery support.

Get rid of that Babylonian iron. :D

edit Are there horses anywhere on the continent?

Agree on markets 1st, we need for the cash flow to start coming.

Unfortunately it doesn't look like we have any horses on our continent.
Although there are still couple of blind spots left, so lets keep our fingers crossed.

And we probably should keep using Berlin as 4turn settler-spear factory until no empty spaces left on our continent

looks like i'm up in 2 or 3. it'll take me a day or so. nice work d-man :)

edit: looks like i have AK6 Ecclectic to get done before this one so probably no post till tuesday night, EST USA

Preflight check: Wonder where that settler’s supposed to go? Wow, lots of moves left.
Near Elipi: sword kills bowman (2/4).
Switch Leipzig to a ‘duct.
Korea will give us Feud +8g for Eng.

IBT: Near Ninevah: we lose 2 workers and a sword (to MDI)
Berlin settler -> sword; Nuremburg worker -> settler

T1: 70AD Babylon and America have Eng.
@Ninevah: Sword army kills MDI (8/14); sword kills spear and promotes (4/5); sword kills spear (3/4); sword kills bowman and promotes (2/5) and we raze the town, gaining 2 slaves.
@Munich: cats go 2 for 2 and redline bowman (worker thief); elite sword kills it (4/5)
Near Ninevah: sword kills bowman and promotes (5/5); other sword recaptures our workers.
Trade: Sell Eng to Korea for Fued + 8g. Min research on Invention. Upgrade 2 swords and a spear.

IBT: Munich Treb -> Treb

T2: 90AD Upgrade our 2 cat’s. Found Bonn, pinching Ashur’s wheat -> Lib.

T3: 110AD Near former Ninevah: elite sword kills reg bowman.

T4: 130AD Kill a bowman E of Elipi. Hurry a couple MDI’s

IBT: Berlin MDI -> market; Konigsburg MDI -> Library (need the expansion); Heidleburg MDI -> MDI; Hannover worker -> worker

T5: 150AD Found Salzburg -> Lib Move SoD next to Bablyon.

IBT: American’s building Sun’s

T6: 170AD Treb’s go 2 for 3 on spears in Babylon; Army kills spear (14/14); Army kills spear (5/14 :eek: ); MDI kills spear, promotes, and we take the city + Oracle
@Carchemish: elite sword kills spear (1/5); archer dies to spear, attack stalls (4/4)
Near Salzburg: sword kills bowman (4/4)
Split SoD so we can take Ashur and Samarra next turn.

IBT: Munich treb -> market

T7: 190AD @ Ashur: MDI kills spear (4/4); sword kills spear and promotes, taking the town (3/5)
@Samarra: MDI kills spear (4/4); sword kills spear and we take the town.

IBT: Near Izibia: elite sword defends against reg MDI (1/5); Leipzig ‘duct -> market; Hamburg Bridge MDI -> MDI; Heidelburg riots

T8: 210AD bump up the lux slider to 20%.
@Izibia: MDI kills pike (3/4); sword kills spear (2/4) and we take the town + 2 slaves. Nearby, elite sword kills bowman in the open (3/5)
I decide to raze Babylon as I realize that the Oracle is worth less than a market and I don’t want to risk the flip (8 resistors, none quelled recently)
Move everyone up for Akkad.

IBT: Konnigsburg riots? WTH, it was 3/3? Anyways, Roman’s building sun’s.

T9: 230AD Kill a spearman in the open and promote MDI to elite (5/5). An exploring spear reveals 0 horses on the Western peninsula.

T10: 250AD Trebs go 2 for 3 on 2 spears in Akkad; Army kills spear; elite MDI kills spear and we take the town + 1 slave.

I think Babylon is now slightly broken. There’s only 2 or 3 defenders per town, so feel free to spread out the attacks. Give them no respect from now on as they can’t defend anything and their counters are very limited (probably to bowman).

Yeah, nice going!!
So far it is easier than i thought it would be ;)

Although with no horses it will be somewhat slow.
America is next, right? Hope they have some horses to capture.

Got it. Finish Babylon tonight looks like.

Sorry, I'm going to have to drop out. My computer's broken, and campus computers suck at running civ3.
Good luck.

Babylon is down to one city with a bunch of elites and the army heading towards it.

4grams350AD_Southwest.jpg

All the other towns fell without losses to the valiant Germans and the very first battle spawned von Richtofen. He drifted off the to the North while I scanned the map for Forbidden Palace locations. When my eye found the rubble of Babylon, surrounded as it is by flood plains, a stand of wheat, and easily mineable plains and roadable forests I said "Here is the place". In obedience to my orders a settler rushed out of Berlin and met von Richtohfen on the banks of the Tigris. The city of Dortmund rose from the rubble and the citizens hastily assembled a granary while von R looked over plans for decorating his palace. When the granary was finished vonR disappeared in a cloud of stone dust and the palace rose on the river bank.

4grams350AD_FP.jpg

FWIW Corruption dropped 20% on the instant the FP finished.

Two other settlers were ordered and sent to the north:

There has been no change on the scientific front so we are still researching Invention at minimum. Markets and libraries are coming on line so it may be time to turn up the Bunsen burners once somebody learns something we can use to broker for Invention. We need to speed to Astronomy so we can get our armies across the straits to America. BTW The heroic Epic has not been written yet but it can be in Berlin or Leipzig while we wait for caravels.

Lastly, welcome, Bigfoot, nice to have you aboard.

Right, I got it.

But before I play further, I want to make a couple of observations.

Firstly, IF we send Hammurabi to his ancestors, we have no dingys available for transporting units over to Abe. Can we prolong the downfall of the Babs until we sorted this out or are we going for quick and outright kills?

We have 2 boats, not close enough to make a difference. Our few coastal cities in range are building infra or workers. We can rush a couple of galleys, but I don't want to do it in structural cities.

I also noticed that America is on the backfoot against Rome, Atlanta is red.

And finally since I'm too lazy to figure out the battling order, I know America is next and has to be dealt with. This is because I'm on my second turn and denied Rome 42g and we are at war with them :)

But I guess the variant says, we have to take them in order as we meet them. Then I don't HAVE to finish off Babs right away, just to be sure we can defend ourselves against a civ going wild in GA. And we can let Babs live for another day and we fight legions for a while instead?

I'm NOT a chicken. I just want to know what the variant means.

But seriously, building markets and courts is more in my interest. :lol:

first post of thread said:
As each is eliminated, the next must be declared on before the end of the turn. Other wars are allowed, and alliances are encouraged. Sandbagging or not finishing off a defeated foe simply to not go to war with the next one on the list is illegal.
Bolding by me :) No sandbagging. Kill them off and in the same turn, declare on America. As far as logistics go, I'd say we should build galleys as soon as possible, but i don't think we should try to invade with a single galley full of swords. However, you could drop off a couple of pillaging pikes to wreck the place while the markets and libraries finish.

As far as who to declare on, there is a list at the bottom of the 1st post for reference. We have to follow this list, so 1st America, then Rome. However, you can also declare on both if you think we can handle it.

Summary: kill Babylon ASAP, declare on America immediately after, declare or stay at peace with the rest as you see fit (or till the Americans are gone), build units/improvements as you see fit.

Pre-turn - Again I have to fix the mess after Bede, I found a shiny gold in Heidelburg. I scroll through twice to be sure he didn't leave anything else with his sloppy ways :lol:

It looks great, only change is to let Stuttgart work a hill with slower growth for a turn, but market 2 turns quicker.

Diplo: Reveals that Babs and Korea knows Invention, how sad we can't get it for peace.

Ah well, military: We are supposed to fight Abe soon? How are we going to do that without boats?

I notice Atlanta is red (Roman) so Abe have a hard time already.

360AD - Rome demands 42g, get stuffed I say and we are at war with them.

Berlin settler -> settler.

Brandenburg founded -> worker.

Rush aqueduct in Konigsberg for 228g.

After reading the thread I attack Eridu, elite sword goes 1/5 but kill reg spear and generate a leader. MI and *sword kills the remaining spear and archer. Babs are gone.

Declare on America.

Research Invention at 100%, due in 9 turns.

370AD - Rome starts ToA.

Konigsberg aqueduct -> galley.
Leipzig pike -> MI.

Build army with the leader.

380AD - Frankfurt court -> library.
Munich market -> library.

390AD - Berlin settler -> library.
Hamburg Bridge MI -> pike.
Nuremburg library -> barracks.

Galley finds a smallish island in the SE corner of the map.

400AD - Bonn harbor -> galley.
Leipzig MI -> MI.
Hannover worker -> worker.
Stuttgart market -> library.

Hamburg founded -> worker.

Rush galley in Ashur for 52g.

410AD - Ashur galley -> galley.
Konigsberg galley -> galley.
Heidelburg granary -> settler.

New Berlin founded -> worker.

420AD - Rome starts HG and America Sun Tzu.

430AD - We learn Invention -> Gunpowder at 100%, due in 9 turns and -19gpt. We have 241g.

Berlin library -> settler.
Izibia worker -> worker.
Leipzig MI -> settler.
Dortmund library -> barracks.

Korea already knows Gunpowder, but I think we need it anyways.

Load 4 elites in galleys to see if we can do some damage.

440AD - Hamburg Bridge pike -> pike.
Samarra settler -> barracks.
Munich library -> MI.
Zariqum worker -> library.

New Leipzig founded -> worker.

450AD - Berlin settler -> settler.
Leipzig settler -> MI.
Konigsberg galley -> galley.
Frankfurt library -> worker.
Heidelburg settler -> pike.
Stuttgart library -> barracks.

Attack Chicago, lose an elite MI against reg spear, kill that and another spear and we have incense. Now we just need a harbor.

Rome's borders are close and we need to send stuff over there immediately. We have a few galleys and next player must check what units to send, we have an empty army that can board next turn and be dropped the same turn. Fill it with MI's and Rome won't have a chance to take out Chicago.

Caesar is willing to talk if that's more in our interest, but I wouldn't.

<IBT: Munich MDI => MDI; Heidelburg pike => musket; Bremen library => treb.; Stuttgart pike => duct; Rome is building Leo’s.

Turn 10 550AD:
- zzz

Recap:
- Founded 5 cities, captured 3 cities and got 2 more in peace deal with Rome.
- Have a settler and some workers near Washington to claim the tile N. of the gems.
- Still filling in some open lands on our own continent; I would consider moving one more settler to the jungles N-NE-NE of Atlanta. We can claim the horses E. of Atlanta pretty soon.

Good progress.
Not sure on peace deal with Rome.
Rome is the next civ on our list after America.

Will be this called sandbagging if we finish America off before Rome peace deal expires.
Should we wait for it to expire or do we have to break it and ruin our Rep.?
