40k NES Preview/Sign-up/OOC Thread

Thanks :) I try. Hardest bit is Ork grammar... and how much thought they'd put into any actual talking... later stories will probably be from a third person perspective rather than direct Ork thinking... that could get messy.

Well... i did collect them for a while :P Great Warhammer fan to be honest... Orks are single handidly one of the greatest darkly comic races they made... and of coruse the most violent :D

They're not dark, they're just pure green (and red). To be trully dark you have to be arrogant, self-important and brooding. ;)

hehe yes though i meant more like black comedy... Sadistic... Though not the same way as Chaos tend to be or Dark Eldar... Ah well. Ork is simply Ork and thats that.

They are a force of meddling. Neither good nor evil, but rather pure annoyance. :p

Fulton - you might or might not have ntoiced my story. I hope to continue it, but am yet to work a fair amount of things out, so I figured I might as well post a brief description to clear up the basics at least.

The Army of the Grand Design is the present form of a more long-standing cult, that until then was semi-secret and mostly focused on manipulation within the "Iranean Empire". A classical Tzeentchian cult, it had over time attracted much of the old aristocracy, as well as younger nobles, members of an emerging military-bureaucratic elite promoted to aristocracy and, ofcourse, the assorted psykers and heretics that over time flocked towards the cosmopolitan imperial capital of Simonia from elsewhere in the sector. The cult infiltrated all military units and key offices by the time the Iranean Empire began to decline; however, the cult leadership refused to acknowledge this fact and continued to conduct business as usual.

The arrival of the man known only as the Messenger (formerly a rogue Xanthist inquisitor) changed things. Infiltrating the cult and gaining support from amongst the restless lower ranks by demonstrating power and knowledge that was clearly a gift from Tzeentch itself, the Messenger managed to stage a coup, taking over the cult and eradicating most of the old leaders. After this, he gathered up the cult members in Simonia and proclaimed to them that he was sent by Tzeentch to mobilise the cult. Great changes were ahead, and the Master's Grand Design entered a crucial stage, during which a key role was reserved for the cult. The Messenger was sent to rouse it from its slumber and initiate the first step of the Grand Schemer's plan for the Nabataea Sector. After quickly dispatching some remaining dissedents, the Messenger organised another coup d'etat, taking over the Iranean Empire's core regions with little difficulty. Newly-raised Chaos formations, in alliance with the long-corrupted elements of the Iranean military, now formed the Army of the Grand Design, eager to fufill their destiny and reap the rewards that Tzeentch had surely prepared for them.

The second step in the plan is the complete conquest of the Jugurtha Sub-Sector...

I wonder how entire planets populations go along with Chaos... but thats off topic so we'll leave it i guess... then again Orks raise many questions...

das,
You have my full support for your faction and your continued story. Two questions though: roughly how long ago did the cult take over, and was the Iranean empire Imperial, Imperial rebels, or just simple non-Imperial humans?

Tyrion,
Same reason they go along with any dictator. They're in control of all the guns, and killed most people who would openly resit. The people would keep their head sdown and hope they weren't noticed.

Force conversion would probably go a long way towards keeping the population in check. Especially if you involved them in brutal rituals and sacrifice. They'd be too shamed to go back, or would think themselves too far gone.

As for Orks, well, they rule through violence and terror too. They'd have to make everyone slaves under Ork masters. Which doesn't work out so well for the economy, but at least you won't be sacrificed to some god or have toeat the still beating heart of your own daughter or something.

Probably not too long ago; a year at most. And the Iranean Empire was non-Imperial human.

Rules change log #1:

Marine upkeep costs have been reduced to prevent crippling upkeep. Feedback appreciated.

Isn't it kind of necessary to keep the space marines in check, rules-wise? We must keep in mind that they're holy super-soldiers. And at that, they're warriors, not economists.

Previously the marines were running upkeeps of around 1100 by default. Their upkeep per company of marines was almost as high as the build cost for Guard regiments.

XVC 36 and 35, please.

I've added a new section including the rules for espionage. As a base I have used the rules done by Scott of the Frontier ( www.the-frontier.com ) from Ad Astra IV. Feedback is requested.

I have returned from Sydney early, but I am afraid I must withdraw my membership in this NES. I returned due to some serious events involving my sister, and as such, I don't feel that I can give adequate attention or commitment to any NESes at the moment. My apologies, Fulton, but you'll need a new craftworld.

Thanks for being honest and having the courtesy to inform me. You're welcome to come back if you have the time later.

I wish you and your sister well. I hope that whatever these events are, they are resolved happily for the both of you.
