40k NES Preview/Sign-up/OOC Thread

1. Some NPCs should be agressive (not necessarily militarily, though conquest is not an unreasonable default)

2. I suppose everything seems balanced enough. I'm excited to see what all those as yet unmentioned systems contain (hopefully when my explorers arrive above their planets...not vice versa ;) )

3. Does every faction have contact (even if the lines of communication aren't necessarily used) with every other faction? Do we have to send ships through the warp to deliver messages, or is there some cadre of psykers that can simply broadcast and receive communications on an interstellar level without leaving their planets?

4. Good so far. Hmm, maybe we can occasionally get rumours of events happening outside of this subsector?

1. Well, they're doing fine for now, but it might be good for some of them to go into aggressive mode every now and then. Being on the receiving end might be a bit different, but I have only the fondest memories of that one time I had a second-rate NPC become a local great power through some well-planned dynastic maneuvering combined with military opportunism. It certainly could add to the game if done right.

2. Nah, all is fine in that regard as far as I could tell. Also, large alliances tend to have major coordination issues, which is a) pretty realistic for the Imperium and b) a considerable relief for the rest of us.

3. Well, naturally it does, but then again what diplomacy does happen works out just fine. We should probably give it time, things get really fun in this department when the Big Wars start.

4. I don't have any particular problems with the update style as it is now. I suppose it could be spiced up a bit more, both with more details and with random events, but that's entirely up to you.

It's been good to see the increase in activity in the last few days. It will be matched by an increase in moderator activity shortly. I especially like Iggy's experimentation with fonts.

Thanks also for the feedback.

To answer foolish icarus' question, it is assumed, for the sake of the game, that every faction has a method of contacting every other player in a near-instant way (via astropaths, weirdboyz, the warp, or what have you). While this is not necessarily true in Games Workshop's version, it is best for the game if everyone has means of communication with everyone else. This includes major NPCS like the Bahmali, Mogz Meanest and Greenest, and Sept Kadra.

The exception is minor NPCS, like Home and the Passauni Empire. Only player nations who have made contact will be able to contact them.

In response to both foolish icarus and das, I hope to put more random events and goings on in other sub-sectors into the next and future updates. HunterG24's story in regards to the Diaphanenus system has given me some good ideas in this regard.

Finally, a reminder that orders are due Thursday November 8.

Glad you liked it! Took a while, but I think it was worth it, for the visual and psychological effect.

I agree, I think the effect was awesome.

A reminder that orders are due in 36 hours from the posting of this notice.

I currently have orders from:

labrat13
HunterG24
das
TheBladeRoden
a_propagandist

I require orders from everyone else. If I do not get orders in for a second turn in a row, players who are that far behind will be removed.

I'll do my best to get orders in. My health isn't the best atm though, drawn-out shoulder problems coupled with a stomach sickness over the last days doesn't put me in the best mood :cringe:. But as I said, I'll do my very best.

Niklas,
I hope you're feeling better soon. I can moderate your orders last and offer you a short extension (an additional 12 hours on top of the current deadline).

TheBladeRoden,
If you have any questions in regards to the rules, I'm always happy to help you understand.

We anticipate the update with unyielding eagerness and unrelenting enthusiasm. *rubs hands ominously*

For those of you who actually like 40k stats and numbers, the TTC uses the following doctrines:

Storm Troopers
Grenadiers
Marksmen
Carapace Armor
Heavy Weapons Platoons

The L.M.G. is a heavy stubber that can be fired as an assault 3 weapon at 18". It's taken as a special weapons choice and can be taken by all units.

The Anti Material Rifle has the following stat line:

Range 60" Strength 7 Ap 4 Heavy 1 Pinning.

These can be taken as a heavy weapons choice by any imperial guard infantry choice. Weapon teams equipped with the AMR may be deployed separately from their parent unit. They do not count as scoring units and therefor cannot take objectives or table quarters. They move entirely independent from their parent unit.

I've wanted to start collecting, but I'm not willing to make the investment, so I immerse myself within the universe without doing anything more than providing internet traffic at certain sites and reading codices.

Was like you for a bit, then a friend of mine got me involved directly in the game. Was able to play on a weekly basis till I got my most recent job, so I'm back to lurking till I can find a regular game on nights when I'm available. This is just another way I can get involved in the game without the time crunch.

labrat, you ever consider making up an army list for the TTC like I did wth the Bahmali back in the day?

Speaking of which... you wouldn't by any chance have a copy of my old Bahmali list, would you? I lost mine a long time ago when my old hard drive died.

I would if I could find the time. Not likely these days. Though I would likely go for WH fantasy first, always liked that more. Though 40k is better as a NES, definitely. ;)

Still no orders from me, I may have to use those extra 12 hours. Very frustrating this.

It is with regret to say that I do not possess that list anymore. I have this sneaking feeling it's in my old iMac that is now collecting dust in a forgotten corner of my house.

As for creating the TTC list, there will be more system wise information to come providing the local chaos player doesn't roll over and crush me before I can get started >.<

C'mon guys, deadline is coming very quickly. There are some very interesting orders in so far... I look forward to processing them, and I think you'll enjoy it as well ^_^

I know what Niklas' orders are not in, but Lord_Iggy, foolish icarus, TerrisH, Kal'Thzar, where you boys at?

Due to the fact that I will be busy tonight wishing four friends farewell in two seperate parties, the deadline is extended until I wake up tomorrow (approx. 18 hours from this posting) for everyone. Orders beyond that will not be accepted.
