5CC Regent Training Game

My bad Choxorn-total brain fart.

I'm actually leaning towards Japan a tad more than Egypt just because Japan's UU is good throughout the middle ages, and is great for a small 5CC core.

Egypt Pros:
Industrious gets empire to a kick start
Powerful UU
Can build Pyramids from start (Masonry)
Half priced Industrious buildings (not sure what they are)

Egypt Cons:
Industrious isn't as useful-less land to improve in a 5CC
Early War Chariot GA
Late game no UU

Japan Pros:
Militaristic means more leader opportunities.
Samurai can defend as well as attack, multi-purpose UU
UU comes at a good, make-or-break time
The Wheel is a great starting tech- no one else has it!

Japan cons:
Not many Militaristic half price culture buildings
Average AA developement.
Wheel doesn't lead to any great culture buildings.

My nominees are Egypt and Japan.
Everyone seems to likes egypt, but Hawk hasn't picked yet.

Still, I think I'd prefer Japan, just because Egypt is the traditional 20k civ, and I've never played as Japan.

Either Japan or Egypt is fine with me.

I vote Japan. Haven't played them for a long time, but I like their traits and UU.

Well, Japan is what the consent is as there are 3 Japan votes and one don't care. Japan would definitely be good, I don't play as them often. Samurai are way cool-will help defend our core against emperor AI's, and the wheel is a great monopoly tech to have.

If Hawk doesn't respond soon, I guess I'll roll up some starts.

The roster would be, unless anyone drops out:
Overseer
Killerkid
Hawk
Choxorn
Tasslehoff

Let's give him until the 3rd, 1 week after his last appearance. I think that's enough time.

If he's not on by then, someone else should start the new thread.

EDIT: 3,000th post! [party]

Japan also can get Horseback Riding as their first researched tech, which gives us a real edge for early warfare, which we probably want, because MGL's can rush wonders. Early leaders also allow the small wonders Heroic Epic and the Pentagon, and later the Military Academy. Building Armies work well as pre-builds, too. I think we could focus on one opponent at a time, and just try to grab every resource we can. The downside with 5CC is protecting our colonies from enemy settlers.

Isn't this a strict 5CC? As in, we can't have more than one army?

Choxorn-I think overseer means build 1 army, and have it win a battle to get epic, and use all other leaders to rush wonders.

HbR does sound like a 1st tech, IF we see horses. If not, I vote Mysticism, as Alphabet and Masonry can be researched while building Oracle.

The big decision-are we going to have our 1st or 2nd city be the 20K city?
I'm inclined towards the first, though growth will be slow, we can't build FP for culture, and capital has no corruption.

What are your thoughts?

HE is good, but MA is (mostly) useless and Pentagon is impossible to get.

The advantage of the capitol is that the Palace generates 1 culture for the first 1000 years and 2 from then on. The disadvantage is, you can't use palace as a pre-build in the capitol. At Emperor, pre-builds are essential, as it takes a lot more shields to build wonders. For my 2 cents worth, pick whichever has more potential shields. That would usually mean an inland city. In our previous round, Edrine would have made the best 20K city, as it had plenty of shields.

A strict 5CC 20k w/Japan sounds great! I'll start a thread tomorrow.

Agreed Overseer. I would generally pick 2nd city due to the FP, but we need 10 cities for it. BGs are great for AA, and hills for MA/IA.

We only need 8 cities in PTW/Vanilla, but it's impossible in a strict 5CC nonetheless.

Check out Hawk02-Japan The 5 Sacred Cities. I have 5 starts there ready to go.
